  Challenging and very fun! Brings me back to the old times of playing custom warcraft touhou tower defense maps. Regardless this is a must-recommend for die-hard 2hu fans out there.

  Touhou meets Kingdom Rush. If you are a fan of TD games you will probably love this. I have a weakness for tower defense with skills and blocking troops. It's really fun and can be challenging on hard or lunatic. I aprove

  It's an alright tower defense game if you like Touhou. Normal difficulty is too easy and makes everything except the last handful of levels a matter of waiting for the enemies to walk to their death. Lunatic difficulty is, despite the in-game description, well-balanced and perfectly beatable. The games biggest weakness is the lack of variety: the maps can all be beaten with essentially the same strategy. This is mitigated by the fact that the game gives you new towers throughout the campaign. I explored a lot of different skill builds (there is a skill tree where you can spend points earned depending on your performance to upgrade your towers) and tower load-outs while playing through the game, and I found something quite overpowered when I had to clear the penultimate level on Lunatic difficulty, which would have trivialized half the game if I found it earlier. There are also challenges for each stage (unlocked by beating the stage), where you have to defend against a single "elite wave" with a restricted set of towers, which should provide some variety for the more dedicated players (I haven't played through them yet). The English translation is a bit sloppy. There are untranslated mouse-over tooltips and an abundance of typos. Flavor text that doesn't fit into the UI is simply cut mid-sentence. Everything important is translated, though, and apart from these issues and some very minor grammatical mistakes, the translation is fine. Lastly, there are a few bugs: the hair of the characters often flicker in front of their faces; many achievements don't work. Recommended if and only if you're a Touhou fan looking for a new tower defense game and you are willing to look past a few issues. Play time to clear the campaign without doing any optional content is around 10 hours, assuming the more difficult stages take a few tries.

  Touhou Monster TD is a casual TD game. The main premise of this game is a (very short) story about the Touhou characters and set in the realm of Gensokyo. The TD itself is a very forgiving one as there are elements of the game that allow you amend mistakes such as the ability to reposition your towers (or in this case, they're more accurately a unit posing as a tower based off the many characters that exist from ZUN's original Touhou). In this game, your builder is also doubled as a hero that is playable allowing them to deal damage. If you are fond of old games like the WC3 TD custom maps, then this is of the same concept. You are able to also use items to unlock chests/cages in certain maps allowing you to gain additional benefits (the rewards from them are static). The game allows you to spend the stars you get from completing maps into a permanent skill upgrade which can be respec for free at any time - by the end of the game at 95/100 stars you will be able to max out all the branches. The art style is probably the biggest attraction for myself personally, and has kept me playing the game some more despite the state of the game at launch. Few things to note; > Not everything is translated, but enough is translated that you understand how to play the game - a lot of the translation is rough > Broken UI/boundaries for details about the towers and their flavour text > Aiming can be finicky (especially when you have multiple towers huddled AND and item under them. You may upgrade the wrong tower.) > Towers do not have the ability to prioritise one unit over the other, and is always for the first mob > Steam achievements as of the time of this review is bugged, so there was no way for me to 100% the game > Difficulty of Easy/Normal/Hard is not really difficult, for seasoned TD players Lunatic is the only mode is most likely the only mode that'll give you some resistance If you are a Touhou fan and enjoy playing TD, you would most likely enjoy this game for around 15h - [b] however I do not recommend on purchasing it for full price for what it offers currently. [/b] EDIT: currently the achievements are bugged in the English language version, if you are a completionist and wish to get all the achievement go into the properties of the game and change the language to Simple Chinese, then continue to complete the achievements. EDIT2 (2 Nov 2021): Your existing save file can be used to replay the stage you need for the corresponding achievements. My final 2 achievements required me to complete it on the 2 challenge modes for all the stages but once I had 100/100 stars it didn't give it - I simply replayed the very first stage for both challenges in the Chinese client and it gave the last two I needed.

  Good: -Some interesting map gimmicks at times which made use of the tower pickup system interesting. -Good enough tower variation to make switching things up fun enough. -Overall the gameplay was fine. Negatives: -Maps are too big for my liking. -Could use more towers and heroes in general, as well as a more fleshed out tower upgrade system. -Not enough levels to play for the price. -The way you can't see the entire map at once because of how the camera system works is annoying. -The way heroes are implemented doesn't offer enough interesting variation or gameplay to work with. -Upgrades are way too OP and give you some gamebreaking buffs. -There are some bugs, like one of the upgrades for spell towers that is supposed to make all Level 5 upgrades for spell towers free, but it only affects the first one. All of this culminates in the game not really being worth its weight in cash. Had it been cheaper and there not been DLC already, I could've recommended this game as a nice way to pass an afternoon. I mean, I got it cause I like Touhou but I think having Touhou as a theme really doesn't justify the price tag, unless you're on the warpath to collect every single Touhou fangame on Steam or something.

  At the time of writing this, I have played for about 17 hours and completed the main story on Lunatic mode with 3 stars without the help of DLC. I have not done the EX stages, hero mode, or challenge mode; but I have played a bit of the new roguelike mode and used the DLC characters/towers in it. I am absolutely loving this game. I love the touhou universe, and the ability to control a player character to attack enemies and pick up/throw towers makes this game really stand out. Lunatic mode is challenging but doable as long as you use both your towers and your character well. It's pretty well balanced, though stages with a major boss ramp up the difficulty (and also the Sanzu river stage). The DLC characters and towers don't seem to be better than the base game characters/towers, they're just there to give you more options and support the devs. For a $20 game ($30 with the current DLCs) I'd say this is well worth it for any Touhou and Tower Defense fan. P.S. Hata no Kokoro character or tower when? I'd buy that DLC too.
