DCS: Mosquito FB VI Features

This DLC will first be available using the Steam Open Beta of DCS Steam Edition

One of the most revolutionary and effective combat aircraft of WWII, the British de Havilland Mosquito was in service with the Royal Air Force (RAF) from 1940 to 1961. A brilliant and innovative design, the ‘Mossie’ left a bright and lasting mark in the history of aviation and served the United States, Canada, and Australia.

An airframe built mostly of wood, to save on scarce metal supplies, earned the Mosquito the nickname "The Wooden Wonder". It was also known as ‘Freeman’s Folly’ after the Air Marshal who backed its production.

Armed with four 7.7mm (.303in) Browning machine guns and four 20mm (.79in) Hispano Mk.II cannons, this superbly versatile fighter-bomber could carry both bomb and rocket payloads over long distances at high speed – and deliver them with pinpoint accuracy.

The Mossie’s ability to maintain a high cruising speed at high altitude made it very difficult for Luftwaffe fighters to intercept it.

The DCS: Mosquito FB VI fighter-bomber you will be flying is the most impressive variant of this aircraft to see action in WWII. A total of 2,140 were produced.

Equipped with more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 25 engines, the FB Mk. VI’s excellent handling characteristics make it a pleasure to fly.

Where do I begin with this beaut!!!. To begin with I am far from being an expert, and had a lot of difficulty in taxiing and taking off ie nothing but ground spins at only half revs. I just couldn't keep a straight line down the runway but eventually I did only to find I had insufficient speed to take off. I spent many days trying to fly it watching you tube pilots manage with ease to get in the air, repeating EVERY ONE of their steps. I unloaded it and re installed as it manifested a problem with my hotas cougar throttles. Then all of a sudden IT WORKED!!!, I was flying. I have had numerous problems but remained patient trying to perfect the take offs, adjusting trims and just about everything I could think of, yet now I was in the air. Since then I have practised nothing but taxiing take offs and landings, and done some free flight and even had a go at a couple of missions. All I can say to anyone having difficulties in any of these departments, is to have patience, keep practising because it is very much worth it in the long run. The mosquito is only in its early stage of development at the moment, but its going to be fantastic to fly eventually and worth every penny in the sale. Just keep trying and make a note of what went wrong if you are able to. Watch and keep your in flight recordings because they really helped to point out where I was going wrong, and with a bit of tweeking here and there it steadily got better. Don't give up on it or blame the aircraft, it is only doing what you tell it to do, and eventually you will begin to kick yourself for why you was getting it so wrong in the first place, glad that you persevered. Beautiful aircraft ED. I hope it generates plenty of missions and campaigns in the future to make it still more exciting to fly!!!.

The Mosquito is a unique aircraft that you’ll either love and make it your main aircraft or hate and never fly it again. It is not so similar to other warbirds that you’ll feel like you’re buying a plane you already own, but not so different that you’ll need to relearn how to fly from scratch, especially if you already own the Spitfire. The braking and turning system on the ground can be a little complicated at first, but with some practice, you’ll get used to it. As this is the first flyable twin-engined piston aircraft in DCS, takeoffs can be a little trickier than what you’re used to, but the wider undercarriage can help you while taxiing to the runway. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll be taking off with light or heavy loads with ease. Landings are not hard since the flaps and landing gear create enough draft to keep you on a steady glide until you touch the runway. Just be mindful of the safety speeds included in the kneeboard. The weapons are its strong points as it is a fighter-bomber. You have an arsenal at your disposal with four Hispano 20 mm cannons in the belly that are massive and can shred any aircraft or ground enemy with ease. Air-to-ground is where the Mosquito really shines. The bread and butter are low-altitude, pinpoint hit-and-run raids. Dogfighting is tough to master as this is a bigger plane. The turning rate won’t be as good as its smaller counterparts. Energy management really takes priority with this one and zoom-boom and other tactics are recommended. Nothing in WWII really compares to it, so if you’re interested in learning something different, then this is going to be a great purchase. Just disregard the terrible in-game tutorials and instead opt for Chuck’s Guides or online videos (especially Reflected Simulations Tutorials) and you’ll have a more enjoyable experience.
