It's no secret that I appreciate a racing game that brings unique elements to the table. While I enjoyed my time with this particular title, I must admit that there are a few areas that could use improvement. However, let's focus on the positive aspects first. One of the highlights of the game lies in its physics. Although they may not adhere to real-world accuracy, they offer a bouncy and enjoyable experience that adds an extra layer of fun to the races. Additionally, the selection of cars goes beyond the typical repertoire of supercars found in most AAA titles. It's refreshing to have an array of interesting and diverse vehicles at your disposal. While the graphics may not be groundbreaking, they fulfill their purpose effectively. The straightforward art style contributes to the overall visual appeal, creating a cohesive and enjoyable experience. The race modes provided manage to deliver a satisfying level of enjoyment, although they could benefit from some fresh additions and updates. The inclusion of a commendable damage model adds realism and immersion to the races, enhancing the overall gameplay experience. Furthermore, the level design succeeds in delivering an engaging and entertaining race environment, ensuring that each track presents a unique challenge. Despite the game's positive aspects, there are a few areas that could use some attention. The lack of updates over the past two years raises concerns about the game's future, leaving players uncertain about its long-term support. It is essential for developers to maintain regular communication with their community to avoid creating the impression of abandonment or a mere cash grab. The addition of new and exciting game modes, such as time attack, could breathe fresh life into the gameplay experience and provide players with increased replay value. Moreover, the absence of multiplayer functionality is a notable omission, as it limits the potential for engaging competitive experiences with friends or other players. Finally, it is disheartening to encounter the issue of "Profile Features Limited," which prevents players from receiving proper credit for their achievements. This drawback diminishes the sense of accomplishment and completion that comes with earning all the achievements in the game. In conclusion, this racing game possesses promising elements that make it worth exploring. However, it is essential for the developers to address the concerns raised, including the lack of updates, the absence of certain gameplay modes, the need for multiplayer functionality, and the rectification of the achievement system. With these improvements, the game has the potential to become an even more engaging and enjoyable experience for racing enthusiasts.
Concept Destruction In-Depth Review
Concept Destruction is another attempt bring back the Destruction Derby style genre into the modern day, and it does this quite well! Optimization & PC Settings In terms of graphics, the game has settings for things like bloom, depth of field, ambient occlusion, but nothing for texture quality, which is a bit disappointing because many of the textures are lower quality, and compressed. This is very apparent on the room texture, where its a very bad compressed 2D image. The optimization is a little hit or miss. I'll see many times where the game is running a high framerate, but instantly will bog down to 60 - 70 FPS when there is a lot of vehicle parts on screen. For a game that is very simplistic with graphics, its a head scratcher on why the FPS can be so inconsistent. I hope that the developer can improve this optimization aspect, and give us an option to improve texture quality. Optimization & PC Settings: 6.5/10 Artstyle Normally this isn't a section I talk about since it usually goes in with the Optimization & PC Settings. However, its impossible not to talk about this brillant artstyle. It really does make me feel like [strike]batman[/strike]... I mean, feel like a toy car on a desk. Seeing the cardboard colored cars, props, and sets made out of cardboard is something that I've haven't yet. It's simple, and it just works. Artstyle: 10/10 HUD & UI A simple, clean HUD, and UI that perfectly fits the artstyle of the game. It also very easy to read, and easy navigate through the menus. HUD & UI: 10/10 Controls (I only used a controller) Handling overall feels great. Vehicles are a little understeery, but can still turn corners quickly. Also, because the wheel distance changes when your car is beaten up a lot, this also makes the handling much worse, which is a great addition. I was disappointed by the handbrake though. It almost just feels like a less stronger brake because I can't whip around when using it. Also, you can't rebind the controllers for controller or keyboard, which is a minor issue but I wanted to mention. Controls: (For controllers) 7/10 Camera The camera can look around your car 360 degrees. What is very nice about the camera is not only can you turn on the option for it to look behind you automatically when backing up, but its also fully customizable. You can change the distance, height, and rotation. Though, the camera is still a little too 'sticky', as it will tend to jerk around when trying to follow the car when its spinning, or getting hit by opponents. Camera: 9/10 Gamemodes There are only three modes, two based around derbies in closed off arenas, and one mode where you can drive around these said arena. The first gamemode is a typical demolition derby. The second mode is the survival mode, where all the AI drives go after you, and you have to survive for as long as you can. The last gamemode is moreso just to mess around, where you have god mode, and the AI just drives around the map really slowly. I'm disappointed that a racing mode wasn't included. Being this is based on the old Destruction Derby games, lacking a key mode in this genre of games is a let down, and causes the game to become quite repetitive when playing. Gamemodes: 5/10 Multiplayer I have yet to try out the split screen multiplayer, but I imagine its just as fun! Multiplayer: n/a Difficulty I was having trouble with some of the events, so when I went into the settings, I found you can tweak the difficultly by changing the event time, how much damage you or your rivals can take, battery consumption, etc. You can make this game as difficult or as easy as you would like, which is what I love to see! Difficulty: 10/10 Vehicles There are eight different vehicles, all with different properties when it comes to handling, speed, and weight. Most of them look to be sports cars, with one being a SUV, and another being a really small compact. I do like the selection, but would have liked more muscle cars, SUVs, and trucks. I also would like it if vehicles have a faster reverse speed, since its not really that viable to use reverse in this events in order to protect your front. However, I am noticing an issue with the speed stat. For example, the ZIP JX has a lower speed than the ROF Tangus SRX, yet it seems like the ZIP is actually faster. Not sure what the problem is here but I thought I would point it out so it gets fixed. Vehicles: 6/10 Vehicle Damage Now, being that these vehicles are made out of cardboard, don't expect realistic looking car damage. Its obvious that the damage is more inline of what you would see if you actually took two cardboard cars and crashed them together. This means cars take a lot of body damage, with parts flying off, and the body crushing to half it's size. Other than a few problems with the damage becoming a little spiky at times, it seems pretty believable for what they are trying to go for. Vehicle Damage: 7.5/10 Arena Design There are eight arenas in total, ranging from a parking garage, stadiums, circle arenas, and square arenas. I like the variety here because even for the simpler arenas, you get different 'cardboardscapes', as one features a bridge, another one is surrounded by trees, one takes place in a castle like environment etc. What also nice is that some of the arenas you can escape, and even fall off the table. They are nothing specially but fit their purpose in this game very nicely. Arena Design: 7/10 Props The props are what would would except from this environment. Pens, pencils, crayons, soda cans, scissors, and more are littered across the track. It definitely adds to the artstyle and environment. Props: 7/10 Physics The physics are again, what you would expect from crashing cardboard. A little light, but still punchy enough when hitting vehicles. Cars feel good when driving, that is if you aren't beaten up. Since vehicles deform so much, it affects the vehicle balance and handling, which adds the difficultly of the game. Physics: 8/10 AI The AI for the most part does it's job well. They are definitely very agressive, but won't always be targetting you, unless you are in the surivival mode. The only problems I've seen is that sometimes they can get stuck in corners, or on the scenery in the game. AI: 7/10 Sound The sound design is a little weird. I will say that for at least the vehicle sounds, they do sound like little toy cars. I think one of the bigger problems is it seems sound effects can be cut short. Sometimes you'll hit a vehicle, and sound just stops after playing for a second or two. Also, sometimes the vehicle impacts sound weirdly... metalish? There also seems to be a problem with sound distance as well, were you can hear impacts, and engines clearly like they are happening right next to you. This just leads to alot of sound overload, and I feel like the overall sound design and mixing needs more work. Sound: 5.5/10 Soundtrack The soundtrack consists mostly of heavy metal songs when ingame, however I don't feel like it captures the game's presentation well. For a game that feels like I'm going back into my childhood, its jaring bashing cars with such intense songs. Its just too intense and heavy for its light tone and artstyle. Soundtrack: 4/10
Final Score: 7.3/10 Good
If you are looking for that Destruction Derby style gameplay, with an slew of options to configure the game how you like, Concept Destruction is the game for you. Satisfying car combat, lovely art-style, hard-hitting soundtrack, soft-body physics and car physics that are actually influenced by visual and mechanical damage. Concept Destruction brings all these elements into a nice little package for demolition derby fans who are looking for their next fix, and I'd really like to see this concept further explored and expanded in the future. However, the maps themselves could do with a bit more variation and quality of textures.

Gets a thumbs up from me! Great fun, awesome metal soundtrack and overall a really nicely polished game I'm looking forward to playing again. The AI is really good - better than some AAA games (I didn't spend ages chasing my own tale like I have done in some 'bigger' demo derby games!) and difficulty can be easily adjusted in the settings to give you what you want from the game. If I was going to make a wish list, I'd ask for a radar (or some way to see where the other players are hiding towards the end of the session!) and I'd LOVE to see some kind of racing mode make it into the game in future. That said, I don't feel like I can grumble at I got for my money.. it's a great price for so much fun. Epic crashes, great destruction system.. love it!

This is a fantastic idea that is admittedly very fun, but was executed poorly. As far as demolition derby games go, it's definitely one of the most frantic and intense ones out there. The cardboard aesthetic - LITERALLY cardboard - is an amusing change of pace from the hyper realism of games like Wreckfest. The levels are creative and novel, and the small scale of everything provides a unique gameplay perspective. However, the gameplay itself is very frustrating. Damage is inconsistent, with you never knowing whether a big hit will completely destroy a car or barely dent it. The physics are a little annoying, with cars flying all over the place from the smallest of bumps - either into other cars or level obstacles. Most infuriating is that the game soft locks whenever you enter the graphics settings, making you unable to back out of the menu and requiring you to force-close and restart the game entirely. To sum up, this is a great concept - pun intended - but it's just that: a concept. Just like the cars you "control", it's very rough and unpolished. So much so that I cannot in good conscience recommend this game.

This game is really Rad! Giving me alot of childhood PS1/PS2 Derby games and papercraft cars expect it's even more destructive! Can't wait see more content added within updates in this game.

Great little Demolition Derby game where you need to be the last surviving car to win. Has a very unique "cardboard homemade" art style that further translates into a very authentic damage and handling model. * Has a Championship mode, Single event mode, Local 2-player split-screen mode and a quick tutorial. * 8 tracks and 8 cars which you unlock by doing better in the Championship mode. * Supports a Dualshock 4 / Xbox gamepad out of the box. * Achievements are fun and not that difficult to get. Big recommendation from me , especially for the price. Hope we'll see a spinoff game with more standard circuit/point-to-point racing.

So, Destruction Derby/Flatout (well, more DD than Flatout) mixed with Micro Machines (I'm not that old but yeah, I know those). Visually, the game is good, the miniature cardboard aesthetic is done quite well but that's about everything positive there is say about this game. The controls is the second best thing to say about this game, why second? Well, they work but apparently the developer doesn't play PC games cos acceleration, turning and reverse is all mapped to the arrow keys instead of WASD. Yeah, I know I can use a controller, but guess what, it doesn't work with this game, I'm not sure if it's the gamepad or the controller so I won't bash the game for this. [strike]I'll just guess is restricted to player 2 or something dumb like that.[/strike] Which btw, the game doesn't have online play, just local and split screen, just like on the good old days of gaming... except I don't have anyone to play with and can't invite anyone because... ya know. And if you're wondering, WASD controls the camera... that should be the mouse's movement... and NO, you CAN'T rebind the keys, at least I couldn't find an option for that, all the 'controller' options do is shows you which button do what. Now we get to the gameplay. The driving is good, the thing is with the demolition derby mechanics. Damage is inconsistent, sometimes you get 1-hit killed and some other times you end up with a smoking monocycle at the end of the match. You end up losing a lot of parts during the match, including the wheels (just the front wheels), but the wheels seem to be the most fragile of them all, I can understand losing a wheel while crashing into someone but if simply going up a ramp (just driving up one, not even jumping off and landing) tears out a wheel something is not right there. But the most aggravating part are the warnings, if you don't hit any car for too long you get instantly disqualified, WELL SORRY IF I CAN'T STEER THE CAR TO HIT SOMEONE BECAUSE TURNING LEFT POPPED MY WHEELS OFF. Or how about when it's down to you and just ONE other car... and that one car is nowhere to be seen... yeah, someone wasn't thinking when they implemented that. Another warning is to keep you moving, and it isn't as aggravating as the previous one. So yeah, it's a simple game, have some quirks, I'd reccommend it but I've played just a little over one hour and already saw everything the game have (except the tutorials) so as it is right now I just can't recommend this.
