I'm going to preface this review by saying that I absolutely adore the story, characters and world of the original Steins;Gate. It is one of my favorite stories of all time and one of my favorite games of all time. Over both console and PC, I've played S;G, S;G 0, My Darling's Embrace and this one, Linear Bounded Phenogram. While I had more than a few issues with 0, I appreciated the story they were trying to tell and loved the new characters that were introduced (and the anime actually did a great job at containing the story while telling us some things they didn't really go deep into in the VN, too). MDB was mainly just dumb fun, and I went into it expecting that, but was pleasantly surprised when the game decided to get serious and it overall had decent writing. And then comes LBP... I genuinely think that I played a different game than most of the other people who have reviewed this. I am not exaggerating when I say that this game might be one of the biggest wastes of time I've ever spent playing a game. I wasn't expecting a ton going into it, just a few short stories to hold me over until the next game in the series comes out, but it's easily the most disappointing game in the franchise and one of the most disappointing games I've played in recent memory. Aside from the constant translation mistakes in the forms of typos and grammatical errors that just get worse and happen more often the further you get into the game (which was barely an issue in MBD, from what I remember), half of the stories don't actually do anything interesting and some, quite literally, don't do anything at all (I'm looking at you, 10th story). It's unfortunate too because I think the game had a strong start, the first story is pretty interesting and got me hooked but as I kept playing I just started losing interest, which is hard for even me to believe considering how much I love this world and these characters. There are a few highlight moments here and there but they are way too far apart to warrant playing the rest of the game, in my opinion. If you're REALLY desperate for more Steins;Gate content, and I mean REALLY desperate, go ahead and play it but, like another reviewer said, your time is honestly better spent playing My Darling's Embrace or literally anything else.

To give this one only as a bundle with the Stein's Gate Elite must be work of the Organisation. El Psy Kongroo.

This game alone is worth $60. A shame it can't be bought without Elite.

This game alone is worth the premium for the Steins;Gate Elite bundle. Quality side stories. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll still think Daru is a perv. Watch out for catgirls and random lizards. Suzuha still best girl. All in all it gives quite a bit of background to your favourite characters, and fills holes to questions you may have had. 10/10. Buy it.

Just because this is an ancillary anthology spin-off of Stein's;Gate and you get it essentially free with Elite, don't be fooled into thinking this isn't every bit a well written, serious and lengthy entry into the Science Adventure series as its peers. The writing in some of these chapters is arguably better than some of the writing in Stein's;Gate 0 or Chaos;Child, and this game gives more characterisation to some of its cast than the other two Stein's;Gate games combined, to the point that I personally consider some of the events canon to the series, if only by virtue that they are too good and fit too well to ignore. The length of the game is nothing to scoff at, with my final clear time for finishing all the chapters resting at around 33 hours, and the effort put into making it is on par with the original Stein's;Gate in terms of production value, with new music, a new animated opening, new sprite work, some new backgrounds, and a full set of sprites and expressions for Okarin in the original art style, something found in no other game. The one thing dragging the game down somewhat is actually not the game's fault, but rather the fault of the localisation team. Some translation choices for certain lines are a bit wonky, including moments where a character straight up says a word in English, and they still translate it as something different, but the most glaring issue is the rampant lack of proofreading and quality control for the localised script, with frequent glaring errors in spelling and grammar throughout the entire game. Overall, TL,DR: Great game, great visual novel, 8/10, would be higher if they patched out the numerous text errors. If you consider yourself a fan of the SciAdv. series you are doing yourself a disservice by not playing this. Now who do I pester for a Chaos;Head release?
