Napoleon: Total War™ - The Peninsular Campaign Features

The Peninsular Campaign Downloadable Content is a new and independent campaign for Napoleon: Total War based on the conflict in the Spanish Peninsula between 1811 and 1814. It was during this era that the Spanish resistance gave their style of fighting its name: Guerrilla, or the “little war”.

It is 1811 and the war in the Spanish Peninsula has been raging for over two years, with mixed fortunes and heavy casualties for both sides. Following the withdrawal from the Madrid area of the combined armies of Great Britain, Portugal and Spain after the Battle of Talavera in July 1809, Viscount Wellington retreated into Portugal and consolidated his forces. Now Napoleon’s Armée d'Espagne, has invaded Portugal once again but thus far the network of entrenchments has proved impossible for the French to successfully assail. Wellington has planned a fresh offensive to drive the invaders out of Portugal and eventually out of the Peninsula altogether. Although forced back to the edges of their Peninsula by France and the traitors who helped them, Spain is not yet out of the fight. The Supreme Central Junta and its successor the Supreme Regency authorised the forming of local bands to fight guerrilla - the “little war” - against the invaders.

Choose one of the three nations involved - France, Great Britain or Spain - and experience one the most intense conflict of the Napoleonic era.

Features:

  • A new and independent Iberian Peninsula campaign map featuring 32 controllable regions.

  • Three playable nations: the brand new Spanish nation and the existing but revamped France and Great Britain, each with its own unique set of Objectives and Missions, and a new, non-playable Portuguese nation, controlling some of the regions.

  • Play the campaign from three different perspectives, each with a unique feel:

    • The French fight to keep resistance at bay while converting regions to their political alignment.

    • The British are very limited for regions at the start, but receive enough income from Northern Europe and North America that they can afford to liberate regions back to the Spanish in return for Guerrilla aid.

    • The Spanish also have a limited starting position, but have permanent access to Guerrillas for effective battlefield use against the French.

  • 5 new Guerrilla unit types, recruitable by all nations, adept at battlefield stealth and with the added ability to deploy outside of their faction's deployment zones: Tiradores (Skirmisher Infantry), Cazadores, Lanceros (Lancer Cavalry), Husares (Light Cavalry), Leader (General).

  • 28 new units in total, spread across the three playable nations including the British 95th Rifles, the French Vistula Uhlans and the Spanish Coraceros Espanoles.

  • Two new agents to enforce political conversion:

    • Provocateurs (French and British nations only) have the ability to promote anti-opposition sentiment in regions, incite unrest, decreases turn time for research and passively spy.

    • Priests (Spanish and Portuguese nations only) have the ability to promote anti-opposition sentiment in regions and incite unrest.

  • A new Guerrillero agent for the Spanish nation: similar to a Spy but with the new ability to Harass enemy armies - lock them in place for a turn and cause them attrition.

  • Political Alignment system which sees the French battle to increase pro-French sentiment throughout the peninsula.

An expansion to an expansion, what more could you ask for? As an aside Sir John Moore is still alive at the start of the campaign something which I find extremly outrageous and offensive to my nation as it cuts down on the potential for awesome poetry about his burial...

I like how the balance of power is realistic; France has a lot of territory but has to fight against Spanish guerillas and is attacked on all fronts.

DLC for Napoleon Total War. Campaign is fine as well as that one in classic Napoleon Total War. Some new features in this DLC campaign make game even more interesting in some aspects although game takes place only on Iberian peninsula which can become boring after playing few campaign.

    >Fired up Pennisular Campaign >Select Britain because I want to be Sean Bean's best friend >No Sean Bean >Tell Wellington to capture a town >Wellington gets his head blown off by a cannon >Dies >Defense falls apart >France captures the Pennisula >France wins the Napoleonic Wars because the Pennisula isn't bleeding them anymore >France invades UK >UK owns the world, and France owns the UK, so now France owns the world >World becomes French 10/10 would condemn the world to French tyranny again

A nice little mini-campaign that focuses on a specific theatre of war during the Napoleonic Wars rather than all of Europe. Play as the French, British, or Spanish as you fight for control of the Iberian Peninsula. It has a few new featrues not found in Napoleon in order to add greater depth, but this is still very much the same game. If you liked Napoleon, then checking this out probably won't be a bad idea. :o

Good Expansion, adds hours of battles and new awsoeme units, but i hate the fact that the portuguese are not considered a major nation, taking in consideration that the first reason why Napoleon invaded the Penisula, wich was to attack the Portuguese and as always Portugal´s role on recent total war games(Empire and Napoleon) is heavily diminuished and forgotten, something i find extremly outrageous and offensive to my nation

Excellent addition to the base game. I really enjoyed playing this campaign because the AI seems to find it easier to match you on smaller campaign maps. The grand campaign is somewhat bloated and the AI sends troops up lost alpine passes taking a holiday in Switzerland. On this campaign map, you are under pressure all the time with limited troops, no money and an aggressive AI. Every choice you make can have direct consequences. Towns will rebel against you in no time. The peninsular battlefields are also glorious to look at with rolling hills and dotted woodland. They seem better modelled and put together than most of the maps in the base game. It is a must buy. 9/10
