Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock Features

Crash-landed on a desolate, alien planet, what should've been a routine work-for-hire job for Powell has become a deadly mission to save the merchant vessel Morningstar and her crew. With one man dead and the captain gravely injured, Powell is on his own to repair the ship and find a way to escape the strange gravity well of the empty planet they've landed on.

And if the situation weren't dire enough, the only signs of life on the planet are the remains of a much larger and better equipped ship and her crew, all dead, and not by natural means. What--or who--brought down these ships and is killing their crews? For what reason? And can Powell find a way off-planet before he shares the same fate?

I liked it. Maybe not worth 10 euros, but I got it on sale so I am satisfied with the 3hours of gameplay.

Why can't there be more point and click games like this? No gaudy pixel art, cartoon scenes, or anthropomorphic animals...THANK YOU! This was quite a fun ride, beginning with the breathtaking opening cut scene which I had to stream on the widescreen. Puzzles are straightforward and logical...not terribly difficult but satisfying once the solution is locked in. Kudos for having the clever idea to reveal hotspots as your mouse hovers over them. And a simple straightforward hint system that doesn't give too much away. Narratively speaking, this one draws on standard sci-fi tropes but mixes them together quite effectively. I sure would love to see a sequel to this. Even though I got this on sale it's well worth the original asking price.

Short but very enjoyable. It is pretty good at $10 would be a must have if ever on sale. The characters are remarkable reserved for their plight and have a dark humour. I found no bugs during my gameplay and the puzzles are inuitive and follow common sense. It hint at a bigger stoyline and would definitely deserve a sequal, if not episodic, release.

I enjoyed it, but its *really* short. I don't rush through games and didn't use a walkthrough, but Steam tells me that I took 2 hours to complete the game . Give that includes 45 minutes on a pixel hunting puzzle near the end of the game, I don't recommend it for people concerned about price per hour. Pros:

Graphics are good for an indie point & click
No mazes, sliding block, or music puzzels
Dialog can be advanced if you read faster than the actors speak
Well paced
Cons:

Launch price is very high for such a short game. Wait for a sale.
There is one puzzle near the end of the game that's basically a pixel hunt on a screen well away from the screen that the puzzle itself is on. Hopefully the devs will either patch the hint system to help here, or make the object more noticable.
If you only enjoy Monkey Island / Sherlock Holmes level of difficulty, you'll not enjoy this game.
So I played this waaaaay back as a free flash game and it was amazing when it first came out. Really big game for the time and fabulous graphics with actually interesting cinematics. If you try and find it online today, it's sad that the voice work has been removed. When I saw it on here, I kinda rejoiced. It's not terribly long, or complicated, but somehow everything just fits right. It's a nice, honest, and surprisingly solid little adventure game. Thankfully, the game's been remastered a bit. The graphics aren't much better, but they are slightly improved. Some new voice work. It's about as quality as its previous iteration but I actually like it a lot. It somehow strikes me as fitting in spite of it being rather deadpan. I miss the character portraits though. Anyhoo, the game doesn;t have too much additional content compared to its free counterpart, so it's up to you whether you want this experience, or the slightly less in-depth one. The differences aren't worth the price tag, but if you've got the cash, I'd recommend the buy. The game's solid and I'd love to see the developers get some support and make a new game. They definitely got some talent for it. All in all, I'm quite happy with my purchase and would suggest it, though for obvious reasons it's not for everbody.

For the seasoned fan of point-and-click graphical adventures, this game could provide a reasonable morsel to tide you over between other releases. It was entertaining enough to play for the time it lasted, but it's short (about two hours), the voice acting is abysmal, and the story is not particularly gripping or compelling. The great mysteries of the planet never really get plumbed, many of the puzzles have solutions that strain plausibility, there's an awful lot of pixel hunting (the only part I finally looked up in a walkthrough turned out to hinge just on me having not seen a hot spot on the screen -- once I was alerted to that, it was fine), and not LOTS of try-this-with-that, but not none either. All of these design issues will be familiar to, and probably reasonably okay with the seasoned fan as mentioned above, but likely frustrating to anyone who isn't used to dealing with such things regularly. I did enjoy playing it for the evening it took, but I suspect within a couple of months I won't remember that it existed.

Short but sweet. An entertaining couple of hours. Nice voice acting for the two characters and nice graphics. It wasn't such an extensive game, and some puzzles were very easy while others were quite abstract, but I liked it.

It's a fun time waster. But only buy it on sale. It's only gonna provide two hours of entertainment, and you will never play it again. Wish there was more to it than this, but it was a fun two hours

Morningstar is a fairly decent point & click foundation but sadly it has one-dimentional characters and a nonexistent story built on top of it. I can see why reviews here move the needle more towards the positive end of the spectrum, but what makes or breaks a P&C adventure for me isn't the puzzles or backgrounds, but the story and characters. These are the areas where Morningstar is most lacking. I didn't dislike this game as much as my thumbs down implies, but I did conclude it with a resounding, "meh." Pros: -Pretty nice backgrounds and occasional animations -Challenging, yet rewarding puzzles -Radio "hint" system that I was grateful for Cons: -Weak story. You crash on a planet, you work to get off of it. There's a mystery to the planet, but you won't get to the bottom of it -Incredibly corny and anticlimactic ending -Voice acting varies between "hammy" and "phoning it in"

This is a classic adventure game which is 2-3 hours long. The main character narrates almost everything he is doing, which helps to better understand what you have to do; but the voice is pretty monotonous. You can always get hints about what you have to do next so it's unlikely you can get stuck too badly. While you do have to move the mouse over object areas to find the useful objects/interactions, those areas are pretty large so it's not too bad. Rating: Hey, Novak, what rating do you think I should give this game? Recommendation: Overall it's an OK game, just don't expect too much from it. http://pixelloot.com
