I'm really enjoying this DLC. That said, I enjoyed the others, too, and many players correctly pointed out the Hans Capon and From the Ashes DLCs were extremely short and didn't contribute that much content. Band of Bastards, however, functions as a long side mission which is very close to the main storyline, similar to the Dark Brotherhood questline from Elder Scrolls, or pretty much any side mission from Witcher. Your liege Sir Radzig has enlisted an old friend, an expat noble and his band of hired mercenaries, to help rid Bohemia of the many highwaymen plaguing the roadways and countrysides. There is also another, older nemesis... You function as their guide, which introduces an interesting game mechanic that I highly recommend you explore for yourself. The new armor set is a fine addition, the characters are interesting, and there are brand new battles/showdowns with around twenty combatants (it feels like a lot more when you're in it). I love the way battles are handled in this game. Of course, there are a few quest bugs, but this time you'll have to genuinely go out of your way to attempt triggering them. If you're avoiding this DLC because you felt like the others were too expensive and didn't give you very much, this is entirely a different situation.

So I have played through this and I have to say, it is very good. It adds an entire new camp and questline, so lets split it up into pros and cons, Pros: •Interesting story •Battles, about 20 men fighting •New mercenary camp full of people you can interact with, apart from Stone of course •Different types of quests (as I find this game provides quite often) •You feel like you're part of a new family •The price is more fair for the content of the DLC There's much more but I simply don't have the time Cons: •A few glitches such as when you drink and tell storys of your adventures you automatically stand up (or at least I did) •It is quite short. It took me about 4 hours to complete but that does include me being stupid and missing obvious things •When you're riding with the group, as always, your walking speed is too slow and your running / jogging speed it too fast •When you're in battle the music could be a bit more intense because the normal music, in my opinion is more fitting for 1v1 and so I think a additional song for those bigger battles would help greatly And yet again a few more but I don't have the time to go into detail Overall I think it is 100% worth it because, although it is short and has glitches from time to time, it provides enjoyable content and epic battles for a fair enough price.

First thing first: The main criticism leveled against this DLC is that it's too short, that it's only 2 hours extra gameplay, only 4 missions, etc. Having started the Band of Bastards missions today and just finished them, I can only say that it's absolutely impossible to finish these "mere four" missions in two or even three hours without rushing through them at an extreme pace (ignoring side stuff, skipping all dialouge, etc.). It's fairly surprising then that people actually publish such reviews, because that's hardly the playstyle you'll have if you enjoy the base game. For me it took the better part of "no life-ing" the game a whole Saturday to finish the missions. The Band of Bastard DLC features a set of well scripted and enjoyable characters with lots of dialouge between them and the player, and between each other. It ties in well with events in the base game itself that your character has already experienced, and you can chose between lots of drastically different options throughout the span of the DLC. The BoB DLC also features several options with different outcomes during the missions themselves, sometimes with funny twists. Broadly speaking, some missions can be described as the Next to Godliness quest, but with war stuff instead of a bath. Thirdly, the DLC also includes several new unique pieces of kit that you can acquire by different means throughout the story.

In short, buy it on sale or in a bundle. It's about as long as this review.

It's a really fun DLC. Sorry, but I feel like the negative review is the only way to ever get the dev's attention. The final battle is a bug filled mess. Every enemy bypasses the Bastards and only attacks me, Fletcher is running around punching people instead of using his sword and half of the attempts started with Kuno just keelling over out of nowhere with the message updating me that Kuno has died. Love this game, but it has been horribly developed.

Message to DEVS: Guys, me and ton of other people would FREAKING LOVE if you would stop wasting your time and energy on REMOVING support for "no savior schnapps" from EVERY POSSIBLE update (dlc?) of the game. Seriously, no need to make my life more painful — for my own goddamn money. You could better spend that time and my money on, you know, things like: — fixing goddamned performance! After a YEAR of release we need to rely on third-party tools to lower 100% cpu load. — Maybe making decent DLC instead of, you know, just adding one 2-hour quest and selling it as a DLC? I have been a huge supporter of you and even defended those tiny dlc, but really, stop making my life harder when I'm your supporting customer. Peace.

As here are a lot of positive votes with a rather non-positive review-text....I decided to review the DLC and not it's potential First what I like:

The idea itself is nice. Go on patrol with a group and protect the villages.
The characters are more or less interesting with their backgrounds and behavior.
The DLC fits into the main story and there are also funny parts.
The group fights are fun, even if they are not very coordinated...I like it.
What I don't like : It's way to short, watch the to advertising movies of the DLC and you have seen 80% of the content ! The first two real mission have each a rather short fight. And than you have a "half" mission, connecting with a at least funny side-mission to the end-mission. Also there is a little additional social quest. That's it , no matter if you play only the DLC in order or mix it with main quests. (there a information around that the content varies if you do so....no it's wrong). The cuma or bandit-hunt in the main-story have each double to triple play time than this DLC. And this is of course very disappointing, a high potential DLC idea...and the whole thing feels cut-off. My advise...don't touch it....not even for a cheaper price.

outstanding voice acting, vivid characters, great directing. Imo this the best dlc for kcd. I liked it much more than Woman Lot, despite that this one is shorter.

I can't recommend this, though it's only 7 bucks so maybe buy it just to add for the hell of it or buy it at half price. There's just very little content here. It's just a few patrol missions (5 if I remember correctly) which are basically 8 guys raiding bandit camps, plus one mission to look for someone. One ended in a big outnumbered fight which was cool. All the content is finished in 3 hours or less. The new NPC's don't have a lot of voice acting, basically the first time you talk to them is the extent of the conversations except for the leader. The end fight was anti climatic and the new armor didn't have as much AC as the armor I got from the vanilla game. Ironically I bought the expansion to get the armor thinking it would be an upgrade. The one good thing is the merc camp persists after you finish the expansion, so you get another bed, but there's no fast travel spot which is dumb.
