  If you like puzzles and want to improve your kana recognition (or learn kana) then Kana Quest is an enjoyable alternative to flash cards and rote learning. The artwork is very kawaii and the soundtrack pleasant. I don't play lots of games, so in my case there were a few things that took me a while to pick up, such as where I was up to! Also, you may need to go into settings to unlock worlds etc if you end up stuck in the first few puzzles, and indeed to do katakana if that is what you want to do. I'm currently playing it as hiragana only, but am looking forward to improving my katakana with it at some point. Then, I hope there might be a sequel: Kanji Quest!

  This is one super cute puzzle game! I love the music and the artwork, it's very calming and chill to play. I also started recognising some of the characters after only playing a few levels. The puzzles can be quite tricky to get gold on too, so it's very satisfying to get them perfect. Highly recommend!

  I think this is a good game but some levels is too hard to get Golden Coins. Pros: Learning Hiragana and Katakana easily Playing like Alchemy from Popcap Games if you playing this game deeply Cons: Maybe lacks Customised Level Mode; and no story mode. If you setting unlocking all levels and passed some levels, you might caused the bug when disabled. Points: 9.5/10

  Want to learn Japanese kana? Cool! This isn't the game for it. The problem is that this is a puzzle game first, and a Japanese teaching tool 2nd. It adds a lot of gimmicks very quickly that just devolve into well, puzzle game. That, sounds fine, however it really breaks the pace of learning. Even if you disregard the "complete each level in optimal number of moves". Flipping around tiles doesn't necessarily help either as there are many puzzles that must be solved in a very specific way, with no way of going back a few steps unless you restart. That constant slow down to figure out a puzzle, some of which are actually rather difficult, quickly takes the fun out of learning. Kana are just a side to a puzzle. So that's why this is a "no" If you're here to learn Kana. They also inexplicably put the English letter visible on each slime kana. I get that the slime is supposed to be transparent, and the English letter is on the back of each tile. but imagine if a flashcard had the answer visible on the front. Puzzle game first, Teaching tool second. IF you are looking for a puzzle game however, by all means. It's a fine puzzle game, and can be replayed at least once, due to Katakana and Hirigana. But as is, it's just not a effective teaching aide over something like Duolingo, or lessons on Smile Nihongo.
