About the Game

Eximius is a Strategic Action Shooter (FPS/RTS Hybrid) that focuses on squad-based combat.

Eximius combines tactical First Person Shooter gameplay with high level strategic decision-making of a Real-time Strategy(RTS) game. The game features a competitive 5v5 team battles where players square off in a post apocalyptic urban environment.

Play as a Commander ( RTS ) ; build base, train an army and call down support abilities to help your allies on the ground to gain territory.

Play as an Officer ( FPS ) ; lead your infantry squad into combat and crush your enemies with your agile tactics or brute force. Capture resources for your team, upgrade weapons and equip battlesuits suitable for your combat role.

Eximius provides a multi-role gameplay experience where each player could choose to play a diversely different role and fight not only with brawns but also with their brains. An expert shooter could be outnumbered, ambushed and overwhelmed if caught in a wrong position. While a scheming officer could be assassinated in the right moment at the frontline.

Objectives

The objective of the gameplay is to win by holding down the most victory points. Alternatively, if your forces are powerful enough, you can completely destroy your enemy’s base and win the match immediately. The command headquarters cannot be rebuilt and the game will be instantly over.

Seamless Transition

As a commander , you are also an officer. But you have the extra capability to switch to top down RTS interface to build bases and command units. An aggressive commander can also join the battle in the frontline but they are normally expected to stay in relative safety and manage base development. Commander needs to be nominated by the team.

Base Building

As the gameplay of Eximius revolves around Team vs Team battles, each team shares a base, resource and technology tree. RTS Commander to support the battle operations by training infantry units and vehicles, building bases and call in airstrikes or support abilities.

Train Armies

Commander can train AI infantry and assign them to players. Leading them as a frontline officer; your squad will fight with you sensibly , taking cover and help you both offensively and defensively.

Tactical Battles

Decide your combat roles and purchase weapons suitable to your play style and tactics. Your weapon and equipment determine your roles in the team. Respond to enemy strategy with appropriate firepower and equipments; be it vehicles , massive amount of infantry or sneaky players.

Unlock Technologies

As your resources and technology grow, you can construct increasingly powerful units such as armored vehicles, gunships and elite soldiers. Your team can also gain powerful team abilities when you tech up to new tiers. Call down artillery, deploy quick-response force or launch EMP strikes.

BattleSuits

The pinnacle of each team’s firepower is the legendary battle-suit. Equipping battlesuits allow players to use powerful abilities, have increased stats and is able to push the frontline much faster. Officers will have choice of several choice of battlesuits, each with their own play style and set of abilities.

Axeron Corporation ( AXR )

AXR is private research organisation that turned into a security contractor out of global needs. Being at the forefront of science, many believes that this wealthy organisation holds key technologies that could bring about global peace. With limited manpower , the Axeron industrial complex produces highly advanced drones for their workforce , both for military and nonmilitary use. This elusive organisation operates in an extremely organised and stealthy manner. Nations that choose to fund AXR do so for their advanced scientific capability and confidence that they will be the solution to the growing mutant threat.

Global Security Force ( GSF )

A peacekeeping organisation set up after the first initial great war; the GSF foundation is built upon the principles of securing the walls, recovering human survivors and rebuilding the civilized world. They command the largest military force in the world and operates on a near limitless budget. Nations that choose to fund GSF do so for their vast armies and their global presence.

TLDR: You expected to build bases, conquor territory, and destroy enemy bases? No you're actually playing a 6v6 FPS MOBA game After owning this game for half a year now, I feel its really time I give this game an honest lookover. Originally when I purchased this game, the idea of playing as a ground soldier and controlling movements of your entire army sounded like a great idea, and the gifs on the description showcased armored combat with heavy artillery and veichles, made it an instant purchase. The actual game is different... Let me describe the 2 modes, and how they REALLY play RTS Mode: You will NOT play as a Commander and a Soldier at the same time. Let me get this straight. If you want to stop tediously micromanaging troops and tanks to take out a gun and shoot enemies, it's practically the same as abandoning your army to die, and leaving your economy to wither. Therefore, if you choose to play Commander, you will be Commander for the entire game. I seen couple noobs try to play soldier as commander, and none of those matches ever went well. As for the gameplay itself, you will be playing on premade maps, on the same spawns, and will work to build your base and work with your Officers to control points on the map. The typical game flow goes like this: Both Commanders on each will work to tech up as fast as possible, while Officers try to help you by taking (Money, Energy, Victory) points to help the game. You can choose to send AI units out to help the Officers fight for control of the map, and as you level up your Barracks to produce better troops, until eventually you win the game. Usually by draining the enemy of Victory points. During Combat, it is practically required that you micromanage your AI units, especially your tanks and artillery, if you want to win the game at any sort of level. You will need to tell tanks exactly where to deploy turrents, manually assign troops to carrier units and officers, decide where to drop air support and resupply armories from time to time. That being said, you cannot rush the enemy base in a typical multiplayer match. There are 4 turrents that have extremely high health surrounding each base you need to destroy before thinking of assault the command center to eliminate the enemy entirely. By the time you can effectively field an army strong enough to topple the turrents, the game is over or the timer ran out. Theres also the teamwork aspect that isn't talked about much, and working closely with your Officers is extremely important. If you have a team of incompetent new player Officers or AI officers you will earn less resources than the enemy team's Officers who played the game since launch. As such, you will need to coordinate, usually with voice chat, to work with you to build and fight the enemy. There is a very *limited* amount of strats you can do before the game gets tedious playing as a Commander because of this, and eventually it just starts to get stale mindlessly following the same script over and over. This is the RTS mode. FPS Mode: If you don't care for building bases and just want to shoot people, you will be playing as an Officer. First, let me tell this: There is no "choosing your loadout". You need to earn loadout points ingame to get better weapons Let me tell you what the gameflow is like, and what actual abilities and game style you will be playing as: The game will start, and you along with 4 other officers, will start with a level 1 assault rifle, and will immediately rush to capture points on the map. (The 6th person is the commander, and he won't be playing with you). As you save up loadout points, you can then choose what weapons you can use, and your "battlesuit" which gives you more health and abilities you can use. For example, letting you dump rockets on enemies. Sounds good, until you realize that there is a *very specific* way to play, and trying to do anything else out of the ordinary will make you lose firefights. For example, here is how GSF plays: -You will start by shooting scouts and engineers with assault rifles, LMGs, and SMGS. -Axeron starts sending Ironguards (Robots with miniguns), and they end up becoming the majority of the fighting force. -You will need to throw away your SMGs, Rifles, and LMGs to get weapons specifically made to counter Ironguards (Thermal rifles, shotguns with flaming rounds, grenade launchers.). -Axeron saves enough money to buy plasma tanks and deploying turrents, Ironguards are now a minority of the game population. -You will need to throw away your Thermal Rifles, Shotguns with flaming rounds, and Grenade launchers for AT launchers, EMPs, and Anti Equipment lasers. Theres really no freedom for you to camp in the back with a sniper, or rush with an SMG and flashbangs, everyone in the team needs to switch their loadout to counter whatever troops that appear as the game goes on. Not to mention questionable gameplay design by the developers: -If you take damage, the only indicator you get is a slightly blurry red marker on the screen. There is no camera shake or anything like in every single other FPS game. You won't know you're dying until you lost half your health already. Lead Developer of this game said this is intentional, and doesn't want "Call of Duty flinch" -There is no "fluid" movement, you will get stuck on tree branches, light posts, mailboxes, and tables. You cannot vault over obstacles or cover, you will need to walk around it. You cannot climb buildings. There is a very specific path drawn on the map for you, and the Devs actively work to nerf players from climbing on top of various buildings or obstacles. It's a very tedious PVP game that doesn't give player freedom, and as a new player you will be working to learn how the gameflow script works, rather than learning new mechanics to try out and experiment with. And once the match is over, you will restart from the beginning, with the same level 1 base and level 1 weapons again, and fight over and over again. You can't build Foward Ops Bases or expand territory. There is no persistent war effort to contribute to like in Planetside, and matches last 40 minutes on average. I wanted to give the game a chance, but im really sick of seeing this game go for half a year with only PVP events and 0 gameplay changes or updates on my steam home. Would I recommend if you like RTS? No. Play AOE2 instead. Would I Recommend if you like FPS? No. Play Apex or any other Call of Duty instead. The game advertised itself as scratching the wrong itch. Maybe this game would benefit if there was randomly generated maps and territory to conquor, and not this very limited 6v6 game mode, so that players actually have freedom to experiement, but IDK. It's just not fun anymore.

Pretty much the only RTS/FPS hybrid out there, existing with both styles in balance without either sacrificing too much. Definitely enjoyable with a lot of depth, but largely dead at this point. Bring friends. Absolutely worth the asking price. The bots are enough of a challenge to keep things engaging as a solo player.

On one hand, given the developer's battles against their publisher, the slow development pace, and therefore inconsistent game improvements, shouldn't come as a surprise. On the other hand, this is a game review, not a commentary, so I'll do my best to explain why I can't recommend this game. Also, I know for a FACT people will call out my play-time on this. My problems with this game are evident IN THE FIRST MATCH. These are NOT meta complaints, these are things I realized the moment I started to play it, and they're why I don't play it more often. Everything that makes playing an RTS-FPS hybrid as an FPS fun requires the RTS portion to be good FIRST. Units taking orders from a player require consistently good responses. In an RTS, your units need to go where you tell them, when you tell them, and SHOULD NOT have automated behaviors for the most part. It is here that Eximius has made a critical error: trying to have both responsive units for an RTS, and intelligent ones for an FPS. This, however, is an RTS, and so the presence of AI reactions should be minimal for the units on the field. The ONLY units that should have any AI are the commander and the field lieutenants (which would otherwise be player-controlled). Yet, units seem to have a mind of their own. My orders may or may not be obeyed by any given unit, whether they're regular soldiers directly under my command (as the commander), or orders given to an AI-controlled lieutenant. They may be obeyed late. They may be obeyed immediately, but sluggish pathfinding may cause them to glitch out and cancel their orders, or be otherwise unable to complete them. This doesn't occur constantly, but it's often enough to be a consistent issue match to match. I play MANY RTS games, and from a strictly RTS perspective, this game ranks among the lower tiers in terms of how it feels to utilize one's units. Thus, to truly enjoy this game, you essentially REQUIRE human lieutenants who will also follow your orders occasionally, but for obvious reasons, preferably most of the time. This is not a requirement because the AI lieutenants are stupid. It's a requirement because the UNITS themselves are stupid, and since the lieutenants are the most capable single units, who also function as a rally point for newly created units, human lieutenants are NEEDED. As a commander, it is unwise to utilize unit micro-management, and not having that option in an RTS game as fast paced as this one can get is simply unacceptable. So what's the point? First, as RTS-FPS hybrids go, this is still one of the best ones out there, and it's honestly really fun to play bot matches with friends as your lieutenants. It functions, to me, as one of the best living cases for why more games of it's kind DESERVE to exist. The developers, despite the slog this game have been in, had the right idea, and did well enough that I still pop in on this game from time to time. It's simply far, far short of being a well-built RTS, and because of that, the FPS component, which itself is average at best, CANNOT salvage a thumbs up from me. If you're VERY interested in this type of game, and have some friends who'll try it with you, I think you'll have a GREAT time. But this game's community has dwindled, and this game in it's current form falls just shy of being enjoyable to play consistently. Where should you go from here? I mean, there's Executive Assault, and there's Natural Selection, but neither of those quite match exactly what I want out of an RTS-FPS hybrid. Eximius does, and as far as I can tell, it's the only one of it's kind. Therefore, I'll keep playing it, but its one competent direct competitor from losing me as even an occasional player.

This is tough game to comment. It is step forward compared to Savage, Savage Resurrection, Nuclear Dawn, and Natural Selection. I am great fan of RTS and FPS hybrids, since they bring interesting non linear games where RTS players are full-busy (need to maintain at most 5-6 parallel actions), while FPS players enjoy ever changing field of new buildings, walls, trenches. Eximius brings in the modern battlefield with tanks and infantry commanders. Tanks cant be driven (they are the RTS players right to fun, like in company of heroes). The FPS players fun is their suits. The game concept is honestly fun, the in-game feeling is alright, controls work well and the graphics is quite good. The game supports "normal" victory points game type, and solo-coop survival modes So what is the problem? The problem is player base. These kind of games depend on the player count. This is the reason why I cant recommend the game. The reason why the game is on positive review side for me, it is because of the BOTs. The game is playable with bots, and RTS players are not limited to only human players, they can create normal RTS units and either control them directly, or attach them to FPS player. BOTs know and control well every role (RTS, or FPS). Well FPS bots are, well bots, you have to guide them on their actions. For me the BOTs are the revolution in this game type, all the others games do not support bot, and without bots RTS role is crap (it is quite frustrating when you are RTS player and have no resources, or your super op commanders are mining stone T.T. Imagine playing RTS games and your OP infantry unit is uncontrollable, and dies every 3 seconds :D, well at least they dont cost resources to resurrect). The balance in this game is not perfect, the balance can only be perfected after longs hours of gameplay (like age of empires II, or starcraft). The balance is focused on longer fights (no one taps :D, destructibles have a lot of HP, bases cannot be rushed). The devs implemented different anti-snowball mechanics, so players can always turn the game around. I am not sure if this game will survive, but you can still experience it offline and have fun, or join the discord on some public events. I am honestly a bit sad, since I really wanted this game to bloom, but at least it is a complete game.

Great game crushed by it's lack of a player base. Don't buy this game if you're looking to play with other people, most of your games will be full of bots. Otherwise, grab some homies and have some fun.

Game is... rough, it's unoptimized, movement is weird and it's really hard to tell what's happening when you're in FPS mode. This is a positive review because they've just decreased the price to 10€ permanently but for the original 30€ this really wasn't worth it.

Devs has a huge need to fix several stuffs here. 1. Although the game is available in DX12, it is not running in DX12, instead it runs in DX11. Please set DX12 or Vulkan default renderer RHI in Project Settings on UE5. Stutters in the game really mess up the game experience. 2. Reload cancels sprint, sprint cancels reload and looking around cancels capture in FPS mode. Please remove these three. It made the game feels unbearable. Just allow players to reload during sprint, and look around during capture. 3. Please change weapon purchase to be modular, such as weapon attachments i.e. foregrip, grip, muzzle, barrel, scope, stock, magazine. 4. Please allow player to toggle fire i.e. burst, auto or semi auto during gameplay rather than lock it in weapon purchase. 5. Please remove excessive hitboxes around foliages and objects on map. 6. Please make foliages and objects on map destructible. Let the building units such as staircase and wall to be indestructible. 7. Please make explosion to have hit radius in X, Y and Z dimension radius. 8. Please make camera view for RTS to be isometric. 9. I have a RTS player assigned a MULE for me, however I cannot deploy the MULE neither instruct it to capture. Please fix this. 10. Some turrets are immune to rocket launcher damage. Need fix. It is tiring to fire rockets at a small turret on the road with a direct hit but it didn't receive any damage. 11. Please allow player to carry more money in game so that they can purchase more weapons. Please make armor little bit more expensive, and allow player to max out all equipment with armor on max money capacity. 12. Please show radius from base in UI where you can deploy buildings. 13. Please allow player to peek and shoot during combat. 14. Please fix units assignment to FPS players, where RTS player tried to assign units to FPS players but still unable to list them into the squad group. 15. Please add patrol command to units, and allow command sequence. 16. Please add indication whether you can deploy the units or not on the certain area with factors of ground elevation, map objects and foliage, e.g. green for clear to deploy and red for unclear to deploy in the area, with path indicator of green or red to indicate it can go through the path or not.

I've been a beta tester for over a month, so I have a decent bit of experience with this game. Simply put, it's fucking sick. If you have ever played Nuclear Dawn or Natural Selection 2, you will be familiar with how this game works. This game is different in that it focuses more on the RTS aspect than the FPS aspect. That is not to say that the FPS aspect doesn't have plenty to do... The squad leaders will be VERY busy fighting. But by that I mean that there are a limited amount of squad leaders (human players) per team. The squad leaders are more powerful than the basic units generally, and have more abilities. What you end up with are knock down drag out fights between players and AI alike. It is insanely fun both as a squad leader and as a commander. I cannot recommend this game enough. Your friends who enjoy FPS will love it as the combat feels amazing, and the RTS lovers will very much enjoy the commanding aspect of it. The best part is that the game is built so that the commander can do administrative actions from ANYWHERE, meaning that the commander can also partake in the fighting, which is insane and awesome. Buy this game.

So this is my review so far about the game and it shows my opinion. I played two games like Eximius already, first there was natural selection and then Nuclear Dawn. I liked to play both of them so I tried this game. The Cons so far is the small player base and the early state the game is in (early state is not bad, but keep in mind there will be bugs). Because of the narrow player base (still growing) matches tend to start from 19 to 1 pm (GMT + 2). There are some issues like NPC path finding and controlling the NPCs properly. There are also some bugs and unbalanced weapons and stuff. So at this moment it is not a finished game and it needs development. But keep in mind, it´s still early access. The biggest Pro (not gameplay related) on top. The developers listen to the community, they interact very intense. The interaction is based on their official discord channel. They tend to play with the regular players and chat with them about the matches, or other stuff. They listen to occured bugs and suggestions for better game experience, like balancing stuff. They are also open to community ideas, so maybe your idea for a unit, gun, ect. can make it into the game. Now the gameplay related Pros: 1. It´s fun playing either as a commander or an officer. 2. A regular NPC soldier is nothing compared to an officer but if a little group of them is managed good by the commander, they easily take out an enemy officer. 3. The two factions are good designed, could be compared to GDI and NOD from CC 4. As the commander you are also an officer. You can stay in base focusing commanding or going out to take part in the fights. 5. In the game lobby the commander can choose some perks for their team, like better shields or better soldiers etc. 6. There is also a PVE mode, where 5 players defend some objectives (hard to defend right now) Fazit: I recommend playing this game because of its great potential based on the genre and the developers (interacting with the community). The player base is very small so you won´t be able to play that many PVP matches. If you want to play aside from the prime time, you can also play versus an simple AI commander. Keep in mind it is early access not beta nor finished!

Love the concept of the game whereby the commander controls the AI units in RTS mode. Also, getting a battle-suit with various abilities in game makes it even cooler. The game is still in early access so there's more to explore and improve. I would definitely still recommend this game.
