Earthworm Jim Features

Jim wasn't always a studly super-worm. He was once just a spineless, dirt-eater with no real mission in his life...
But then something unexpected happened. The evil Psy-Crow was transporting a super suit, built by the genius Professor Monkey-For-A-Head, to Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-Filled, Malformed, Slug-For-A-Butt, but along the way it was stolen by a rebel. Although Psy-Crow killed the rebel, the suit fell down to Earth, landing on an Earth Worm. That cosmic twist of fate placed Jim in control of an ultra-high-tech-indestructible-super-space-cyber-suit.
Anyway, Earthworm Jim found out that Princess What's-Her-Name had been captured and set out to save her. Meanwhile, there's a bounty on Jimmy and plenty of people are in line to take Queen Slug-For-A-Butt up on her offer.
Now Jim must make it to the princess and stay clear of Psy-Crow, the intergalactic bounty hunter, until the final battle with Queen Slug-For-A-Butt. To accomplish this, you'll have to use every weapon and ability at your disposal to wriggle your way through dozens of original and just plain weird levels.

I thought "surely I can make this work," after reading all the negative reviews. Well. I can. However, it required a level of effort FAR beyond the reward. As others have said - you can just emulate a rom. I wanted to support this title in hopes that maybe we'd get more before everyone involved with the development was dead of natural causes. They've been teasing us for twenty something years now with "it's not a matter of if, but when." Well, I don't see any plans anywhere of ever getting another EWJ game. But to the point - this software is junk. I think all of us buying this is just enabling worthless grab-asses to get away with theft and possibly ensuring a new game will never be made. Why make a Shiny new game when you can get just as much money or more from a stale old turd?

Awful port job of a classic game. The original Earthworm Jim handles pretty superbly, and is a real joy to try even today. This version suffers from various physics problems, poor aerial handling (death-knell for a platformer), weirdly compressed OST, all the usual symptoms of a garbage port job. Not sure how the Steam release got bungled this badly, but there you have it. I suffered through this version for a few hours before giving up and just playing the Genesis version (google is your friend here; online emulators of classic systems exist for a reason). Give this a pass for sure.

Earthworm Jim Review: I'll first of all start by saying this is the MSDOS version so it runs on DOSBOX and I can't find any source ports for it. I hate how Steam shows the screenshots because the screenshots seem to have been taken using the Mega Drive/Genesis release because in the DOS version the picture of the gun on the ammo count is different from the one in the screenshots and they shown the Intestinal Distress level which isn't in the DOS version. But overall I call this version Average it is a good version but if you are an Earthworm Jim Newbie I suggest getting the Sega Mega CD/Sega CD or Windows 95 versions. I would take the Mega CD or Windows 95 version over this anyday but let's face it it isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Overall if you are new I wouldn't get this version but it is still ok. 5/10 GROOVY!!!!

I bought this Collection a long time ago before the though of refunds even be a thing, this trilogy is a compilation from the worst EWJ ports for PC. The first 2 games are butchered and lack the most basic levels that appear on every single version on the consols (including some of them that are on the pics show case leading to false advertisement) and uses an "outdated" DOSBOX emulation to play . And the third game is just the cherry on the bitter cake since it universally sucked on both platforms that released. If you want a modern port to EWJ look for EWJ HD on 360 or PS3 or just look for that Special Edition released on Windows 95/Sega CD that is better than this "thing",

+ classic earthworm jim - DOS version which is inferior to Genesis SNES and especially SegaCD versions - barely runs out of the box (possible to run it decently with some configs from the forums)

Earthworm Jim is the amazing game (and series), no doubts, but there is one very important thing you need to know: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME ON STEAM It is a horrible port, seriously, its bad on so many levels -Horribly emulated and you will have problems with controls -Horribly cut comparing to the SEGA and NES versions - music and levels are missing, and there is NO info about that on the steam page. -20$ for 3 bad ports is a rip-off If you want to play this game, simply get SEGA or NES emulator and ROMs, so you could actually enjoy the game. I wish I could refund this game, but I bought the pack years ago before that new refund system and support refused to return my money when I bought it. I wrote a money back ticket half an hour after I bought the game, and they closed the ticket like a month later with something like *bad port is not our problem - no refund* Join my curator group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/garbage_games_challenge#curation

I can't recommend this version of the game. This is the DOS port which is basicly a weird combantion of the SNES and Genesis versions Being that it is a child of the SNES and Genesis versions, it sadly takes after the SNES. Which is missing a level from the Genesis version. This version also does not have any of the levels from the special edition. If you are going to buy this game I recommend the special edition on Sega CD or the PC port (Which doesn't work on modern systems without mods) One thing to note, the Steam page uses screenshots from the Sega Genesis (or Sega CD) version, which is misrepresentative of the product that is being sold.

Its a sweet come back of an old game which i liked to play. The controls are good and the graphics are exactly like i remembered them but one thing bothers me, at least i didnt find a way to pause it without closing it entirely.

Earthworm Jim but anytime you release the jump button he drops faster than Gordon Freeman at sv_gravity 1000.

Cmon, everyone fooled around with sv_gravity command in Half-Life 2, I can't be the only one, can I? Obviously it's a hyperbole but boy, it's like they lost the code for original game controls and had to recreate a much worse version of it. You will be suffering in daily activities such as failing to whip fast enough after a small jump or just getting annoyed at your Jim's unwormly stiffness. I actually wanted to put some time into this Jim and analyse it for myself, wanting to see if Jim has aged well as a game. I mean, I doubt, maybe it wasn't much a good game to begin with in our post-scarity world. But as soon as I came across the situation where I was not able to grab on the ledge in order to grab 1 Life-Up in underground section in the middle of the first level, it became clear as a day to me: This version is illegal. It doesn't count. But if you still want some details outside of playability like some kind of earthworms nerd, have at you! This is a DOS version of a game. You can install the fan patch which fixes up sounds. It's missing some sounds, like Plasma gun shot. Compared to SNES and Genesis it looks the best, making usage of richer color palette and having few small details, albeit missing the SNES special effects like lens flare. Well, backgrounds are based on Genesis version. It has same levels amount as SNES, so it doesn't have that boring looking level from Genesis. Well, actually, the second mecha chicken boss fight is missing as well. Sega CD (or maybe Win95) are still definite versions. Never tried HD version, so maybe it's the best one. DOS uses passwords to track your progress. Music is CD quality. This game is actually legal. But not in my book. PS: Actually went and beat the game. Mmmmm, yea. Turns out that you have easier time grabbing some ledges in this version when Jim is doing the standing jump animation instead of a running jump. I don't really like the game itself. Half of it is based on toughnut gimmicks. Like, Jim, get some normal action platforming, stop making me rage in underwater moondlanding section. And most of the game challenge depends on memorization, because camera sure often isn't there to show what is coming. Jim still controls too sluggish here as well so that ruins the mood. Otherwise eh, actually playable but get better versions.
