I really wanted to like this. It's made by a competent developer but there are a few issues. Forming a beat that shoots is a unique idea I can get behind! It makes sense. Also, it's easy to do! I'm even a fan of the music. But, 1. Making a beat is good but not exciting. It never gets to the point of, "OMG, I can't believe this is happening!" Combining notes is kinda tedious. It's not clear what's going on. Having a lot of beats doesn't seem to make your bullets any more powerful. If I can't jam to the track I've created OR feel super powerful what's the point? 2. The game is boring to look at. The areas are very generic and there's very little visual flair. Games can be made with simple shapes, for example, Geometry Wars. But in GW it was a crazy fireworks display and here's it's kinda like a Yankee Candle in a big room. Visually the game has pleasant things but I don't want to show it off to anyone. Overall, Beat Blast is a well-made game that is a bit boring.

I have been following this game through its development for over a year before it released. It is pretty fun for an indie game. The problem I have is that the developers gave up on this game. I posted suggestions in the feedback channel for their Discord server, but no one cares even though most of the things I critiqued about could be easily fixed. After a few runs of this game, it becomes increasingly rage inducing. I feel like the choices made for each playthrough are placebo effects. Some of the passive upgrades barely do anything and the enemies are spastic. Here is a passage from one of my recent suggestions: "From my understanding, goes near the player, then starts shooting at the player. After that, it picks a random direction and travels some arbitrary distance before engaging the player again. That last part is extremely bad because there's no indication to which direction it is going to travel in. It just sort of snaps its sprite somewhere and starts moving. This is especially a problem when you start kiting enemies around to dodge all their bullets, these enemies in particular will ruin the flow by randomly running into you and taking away a heart for no reason. My suggestion would be to provide an indicator of some sort to show which direction it will go in, or slowly rotate the sprite instead of snapping instantly. Or, just make it so that these guys don't run into the player in the first place. It should be their goal to avoid the player and shoot at a distance, otherwise they will die to the player's bullets up close. I cannot stress enough how flawed its movement is. Any time you get up close and personal with those guys, you're taking a complete gamble. Part of the reason why I don't specialize in all yellow notes (and nothing else) or close quarters combat with the sword is because those guys make it too difficult by just suddenly running into the player after finishing its shooting sequence." I will admit that crafting your own music while fighting enemies is a really cool idea for a roguelike game. It is just that after a while, you want to do as much damage as possible, so you will pick the same note build every time. Some of the achievements are extremely difficult, too. For example, getting to the 4th floor without taking any damage is purely up to chance with the way enemies are spawned in and how they behave. Fun game, honestly, it is. But, 22 hours is all I can give this game. And that is very generous for my standards.

This is a fun game that i wish i could realy enjoy, but there are just a few things that ruin it, at least for me, personally. I think the biggest issue for me is just a lact of a feeling of progression following a failed run, paired with how unfair, or unavoidable many of the wipes can feel at times. try this game if you enjoy something like enter the gungeon, dont if you cant handle wipeing to nearly unavoidable dammage for the 8th time in a row only to get nothing realy out of your best runs.

The game isn't bad but when you're experienced in bullet hells and shmups, it can turn quite boring, specially if you're not into making builds. I'm recommending this because the game genuinely seems fun and well done, it's just that I don't enjoy it as I prefer other kinds of bullet hells. I know there's ways to make the game harder for higher score or smth but they don't really do much, they're just modifiers when the issue for me lies in the simplicity of the patterns.

Due to the random nature of each playthrough i have a hard time saying this is either hardcore or casual because depending on how things randomize difficulty can vary wildly however the joys of finding out what combinations of notes do to a shot and what each bonus can do in combination with your note set is really satisfying. Now if only i was better at timing my dodges... Simple graphics, great and player dependent music, weirdly relaxing for something that kicks your butt randomly.

This game is incredible. It's a unique blend of bullet hell + roguelite + music that seamlessly works. The enemies are well designed and lead to interesting gameplay choices and the music component adds something that I haven't seen before. Using musical notes to compose a firing pattern is a genius idea and it works flawlessly. While the game is still in Early Access, the developers have promised loads more content that they are working on and they have had great communication with the player base and seem committed to listening to them. Although I just got this on steam, I've probably played closer to 20 hours of this game but it was in the demo format. This is a definite recommend. Edit: The game has received quite a few substantial updates since release of the Early Access, all of which have added great content as well as tons more variety. The devs are doing a great job with this. Edit: With the full release here, I figured I'd update this review. With the past several updates the game feels complete, with a very satisfying gameplay loop and great incentives to keep playing. The scoring system and modifiers have added an absurd amount of replaybility and the devs have done a great job of improving the game across the board. The game is a "Recommend" more so than ever before. Note: I have this game on another account, which is now my main account with 40+ hours logged, but I figured I'd just update this review.

Beat Blast is an interesting format to a bullet hell + rogue like , its fun and very simple, currently it doesn't have too many things, but the game is in early access so a lot of new things are expected in new updates, but it is a relaxing and cool game.

This game reminds me alot of how Binding of isaac with its gameplay, overall it felt like a great game to pass the time, i do think the game is more on the pricy side though, if the game were a bit cheaper this game would be 10/10 but with price included i give the game about a 7/10 should wishlist.
