-KLAUS- Features

Klaus is a 2D puzzle platformer with a self-aware narrative. Its design takes inspiration from classics games combined with a tense and emotionally engaging story.

“I DON’T KNOW WHO I AM”

Klaus discovers his identity while trying to escape from a mysterious basement. Through his journey he’ll discover who he is, what "Klaus" means, and how he ended up there. While jumping spikes, hacking computers and avoiding danger, Klaus seamlessly interjects with key elements of his story, which develops naturally while you play.

4TH WALL BREAKING MOMENTS

In KLAUS, you’re not playing as the title character; rather, you’re his companion. Klaus acknowledges your presence and wonders aloud about his escape and how he found himself trapped in the first place. His personality can be volatile in vulnerable moments because Klaus has his own agenda. Oh, and Klaus might not always want to do what you want. After all, who wants to die due to someone else's mistakes?

K1, THE FRIENDLY BRUTE

During your journey, a "friendly" guy called K1 might join you on your journey. K1 is a brawler, at least in part, and with his destructive prowess he’s able to smash obstacles and do Shoryukens without breaking a sweat. Klaus and K1 can be controlled separately or cooperately to solve puzzles, although sometimes they’ll be split apart. Each character, of course, has his own motives.

REMEMBER THE PAST

Throughout the game Klaus will remember his past through interactive memories. Each memory is playable in a unique way with different mechanics than other sections of the game. Just like in real life, the dreamy worlds of the memories don’t follow the same rules of the rest of the game.

FEATURING

  • 6 worlds, 34 levels, 100+ rooms, 3 Bosses.

  • Critically-praised non interruptive narrative. The story unfolds while you play.

  • Two playable characters with unique skill sets and cooperative gameplay.

  • 4th wall breaking moments in gameplay and narrative.

  • Hidden collectible levels add even more depth to an already emotional story.

  • Speedrun mode unlockable after finishing the main story.

  • 2 Endings.

It's honestly a really interesting game with a lot of effort put into it. I think the game is worth the price tag given the overall quality, I just have a few minor issues with it. I think the game is on the shorter side, even when taking your time. (about 4 hours). And my biggest issue is that the platforming doesn't feel that great, it's definitely what someone might consider "rough around the edges". Every other aspect of the game is well designed. It's a great concept, the levels and story are well designed, and the aesthetic and presentation of the game are really well done.

I'm reviewing Steam games in alphabetical order, and you can watch my review here: https://youtu.be/3QjBv78UBlI tl;dw If you like 2D platformers with an amazing artstyle, great music, fantastic level design and an interwoven narrative, buy this game now. This game does have some roughness around the edges, but it is a wonderful experience that has been drastically overlooked. This game is 100% worth your time. Two pieces of advice though: 1) Play with a controller, they keyboard and mouse controls are awkward. 2) Take the final boss one step at a time, it is possible to soft-lock yourself if you break both walls too early.

I enjoy this game so far. There's always a surprise. Every situation I was put in had something new or rewarding. It could be a new aspect of the story or a new way to play. Speaking of the story, it has sense of humor and a little bit of mystery. I want to know what’s next. The soundtrack is great and makes you want to keep playing. About the gameplay, it’s always changing in a good way, you don’t get bored. You’re reading the story as you play. I fully recommend it to everyone who likes platformer or just looking for something different.

Awesome! I played through this on the PS4, been waiting to add it to my Steam library. I played a bit so far with both the mouse and keyboard, as well as an xbox one controller. Both work well and I was pleasantly surprised how the keyboard mouse controls actually made some of the areas feel even smooth to play than I remember and that's really cool. Running excellent at 3440x1440 on my Ultrawide. Just a really cool looking game all around as well. From the Menus, UI to the level designs. Wears its influences on it's sleeve but adds really cool platforming mechanics. The challenge levels are still my favorite part of the game, they are such a brain melter sometimes. The one where you're controlling a guy on the top and bottom of a platform just breaks my brain when making them jump over and throug obstacles at the same time. Great work by the developers bringing this to Steam, looking forward to completing it again. *Only issue I've encountered is when I set my music and sfx volume, it forgets when I reach a new level, but just opening the menu makes it remember. Im sure this is a simple fix for the developer.

Great Story, Good gameplay. Cool Soundtrack I love the collectibles. They have a meaning. It's not just get 100/100, everything you do in the game has a meaning. It makes the world more believeble.

Fun platformer with an interesting lightly philosophical story and fun characters (albeit just two of them), provides a challenge but not so frustrating you won't see the end with a bit of patience (it's not like Super Meat Boy really, except it's a platformer with saw blades) - I 100% the story in about six hours of play, and there's a time trial mode after that if that's the sort of thing you like. Fantastic synthy sound track too. I really enjoyed how much it played with the platform gaming form, especially in the secret levels and towards the end of the game. My main criticism is that although the secret level portals are fairly well signposted, I felt I couldn't relax and enjoy a level until I found it, terrified that I'd miss it and miss out on a crucial bit of background story. Also the controls feel a bit weird jumping from conveyor belts I found. All in all though, worth your time.

Bad movement feedback, but really interesting level design and a very enjoyable history. Not a bad choice if it's on sale

Great, engaging platformer with an interesting story. Makes me feel bad that I didn't pay full price for it.
