Turing Complete 遊戲特點

-= LEARN =-

Everything in a computer can be constructed from a basic component called a NAND gate. You will be challenged through a series of puzzles, to discover the path from NAND gates to arithmetic, memory and all the way to full CPU architectures. If you complete this game, you will have a deep understanding of how assembly, CPU instruction sets and basic components are related. And you will understand how programming concepts like if statements, loops and functions actually work in assembly and hardware.

-= BUILD =-

The game is built on a powerful simulator, that gives you total freedom in how you solve levels or create your own computers. Wire up screens, timers, sound, keyboard input and network components to create whatever you want. You can even design a unique assembly language for your computer.

The problem with this game is that it doesn't teach you. It just shows you puzzles and wants you to figure them out. That is fine when you are designing simple gates, but when you are supposed to design multiplexer you still rely on the same "just try something". It mentions Karnaugh maps in manual, citing: "There is a trick one can use called a Kamaugh map, which will let you find simple solutions to truth tables. You may want to look up Kamaugh maps online, althoth you have already completed the levels where this would have been most useful." which is said after designing XOR or gate of similar complexity. It even discards it as "well, you prolly wont need it anymore anyway", but then it wants multiplexer and without karnaugh map its just a chore leading to highly inefficient circuits at best. Devs should throw away the "you have been abducted, now make a computer" and instead provide teaching narrative which would make harder puzzles solvable.

Store Page says - "This is a hard game, but computer knowledge is not a prerequisite." Devs are correct, computer knowledge is not required.. some knowledge of computer science and logic circuits / gates is absolutely required. K-Maps and boolean algebra would also help either :) Game is quite difficult, interface is a little awkward and needs some improvements. I'd like to be able to add notes NOT constrained to circuit paths (like sticky note on certain areas). Something that that is absolutely required is some documentation or a basic overview of all the components, gates and such so folks that haven't gone the SET education route can understand what they are doing and why things be as they do.

    1. Start a level 2. Read instructions 3. Ignore instructions as you are a fool 4. Throw some random gates in there 5. Wire that sh*t up 6. Wrong 7. Reread instructions 8. Force monkey brain to comprehend 9. Throw more gates in there 10. Probably way over complicate it 11. "It just works" 12. Repeat until later levels 13. It no longer works that way in later levels 14. No Hablo Espanol 15. Pray to God 16. Beg him to make your brain bigger 17. Realize God is dead and Demux killed him 18. Dream of Xor and Nand 19. Everything starts to click 20. Reach the programming levels 21. Everything stops clicking 22. Brute force it 23. Works at first 24. Spend seven hours on one of the levels (not joking) 25. 01010000 01100001 01101001 01101110 8/10 I am still on that level but still having fun

I've been a professional software developer for almost a decade, and I've never been more proud of anything I've ever built than when I wrote a program to solve a maze in an assembly language that I encoded on a computer I built from scratch in this game. I feel like for the first time I REALLY understand how a computer works, and it is incredibly gratifying. I've been playing games like Factorio, Infinifactor, Shinzen I/O, TIS-100, Astroneer. Minecraft, "While True: Learn()", etc., but it turns out that this is the itch I was trying to scratch the whole time. And in the sense of scratching that itch, this is the best game I've ever played. I'd like to personally thank the developer of this game for all your hard work, brilliant teaching, and fantastic insights. THANK YOU!

Summary: I learned more from 3 days in this game than 3 months in a Computer Science class and had TONS more fun! On the difficulty I want to say: don't forget to apply at INTEL or AMD after completing this game. I believe the game needs more intermediate levels and some of the discriptions of the desired results are a bit cryptic. If the devs add a little bit more explaination of the desired results, I believe some of the difficulty can be reduced as the player can focus on the puzzle and not decoding the instructions. On the fun factor I want to say that it is crazy rewarding seeing your creations come to live and accomplishing little tasks! As A CS major I recognized what the little components mean, but this is not revealed after the puzzle. IMHO the devs should add this so the player knows what the significance is of their creation. For instance, after creating the ALU I knew why that was important, but would a regulair person know? Lastly, we need more fun comments from the aliens in game. Its a great start, but I would like some more snarky comments to keep me going :) 7/10 now, easy 10/10 with some improvements.

I'm a computer scientist who already knew how to build these things. This is without a doubt the best visual hardware simulator I've seen and it keeps getting better. Want to learn how computers work at the low level? This is the best puzzle game for you. Want to mess around in a logic sandbox and build the craziest circuits and machines you can imagine? This is the sandbox game for you. Want to solve incredibly difficult optimization puzzles to earn that sweet sweet fake internet street cred? This game has that too.

I really liked the game, but sadly it is not playable with a red-green color blindness (red green was still ok for me, but when grey got in, I was lost). Would be great to have something in the options to change it with signs or exchange it with other colors.

Okay hear me out, I played ALL Zachtronics games, and I actually love this game too. But I cannot recommend it to others for two main reasons: 1. Removal of SR Latch / Flip Flop - I tried a previous version before paying for the game and buying it on steam and restarting, so I must say I'm EXTREMELY disappointed with the new introduction to memory. Presenting "Delay Lines" as a fundamental way to store 1bit of data is just wrong and bad on so many levels. If the implementation of SR latches is too difficult, I'd rather just explaining it to players and then skipping ahead with it as a black box. 2. Unskippable levels - This means that you must be able to sole EVERY single puzzle in order to advance to future content. This might prove challenging for less proficient or casual players who might simply remain stuck. A good solution would be to allow them to optionally "skip ahead" to the next section upon completing 90% of the missions of that tier, e.g. 18/20, that way they still have wiggle room to fail. Once the above are addressed, I'll happily change my review and recommend this game, as I still thoroughly enjoyed it.

You start doing simple logic circuits and some few hours with no sleep whatsoever you end up re-building a computer. Really. You make everything, you decide everything, how many registers it will have, which operations it will support, every feature, every limitation is yours to decide. It is very addictive and very educating. If your kids ever wondered how computers work - just show them this game. You can create any architecture, with some very minor limitations. The game is still in early access so some interface needs polishing, but it is really a great game! To the makers: 1. Please, add something you can write on directly on the board, some notes about what this gate does on the other end of the circuit can be very helpful. 2. Please, add 'protection' to some lanes so they cannot be accidentally deleted or broken 3. Please allow 3-state in/outs to have mirrored versions. 4. You are doing wonderful job! Keep it up!
