This is one of the greatest games I have ever had the pleasure of playing. It gives the feeling that you're playing Grand Theft Auto and Minecraft together, both combined with dozens upon dozens of mods. There is barely a thing you cannot do in Voxel Turf.
Pros
-You can build and interact with almost anything you place. -You can build anywhere and then drive around or destroy what you built. -If you're not the creative type, there's premade lots that you can place. -You can load up randomly generated cities. -You can build your own from scratch using the premade lots. -Workshop support allowing for custom made lots from other players, plus extras. -Missions, diplomacy, shopping, plus more. -Earn money by protecting neutral businesses or residences and make money, do some missions and collect a profit. Build up your empire by buying out land/properties. Raid bandit bases for loot and sell it at various stores to purchase other things. -Play with other AI factions in a race for city domination or however you please. -Play with unlimited funds, pick what to start off with, choose to play alone with no AI factions, or just play the default way. Choice is yours. -Destroy ANYTHING! Spawn a tank and drive it through a building? No problem! How about create massive holes in the street or a building? Sure! Insure your property to protect it from all damages and hit the repair button to restore it to its former glory! -Weapons, weapons, weapons! You can add up to two (2) upgrades on weapons to either add zoom, make bullets explosive, or have armour piercing rounds.. Whatever you wish. If you want to drive around in a car and do a drive-by, that's possible. You can also fly a helicopter and do a fly-by! But let's not forget about the tanks.. If you thought a huge cannon strong enough to punch a huge hole inside a building wasn't strong enough, why not do a tank-by! Use your weapons while inside of a tank. -There are also police in the game, watching you. Be careful as their unique system puts the GTA police to shame. :) -The biggest pro is that the developer is heavily dedicated to his game and is working NON-STOP to bring us the absolute best experience humanly possible. Not to mention the game is well worth the price tag!
Cons
Not really anything at all. [strike]The only con is the game is not menu friendly. It likes to crash a lot when loading, saving, generating, deleting saves, etc. Those aren't the biggy though. The biggy is that you need to End Task the Voxel Turf client via Task Manager in order to easily and without issues, get out of the game. Otherwise your game will lock up your computer, prevent you from switching screens/tabs, won't let you get to your TM and you'll be stuck trying to Alt+Tab out of it. After several minutes of frustration the game will finally decide it isn't responding and ask what you'd like to do. Another minute or so and it will finally close but most of the time leave the process running in the background.[/strike] UPDATE: October 24, 2017 The issue was fixed in a swift and professional manner. The developer kept patching and working his hardest until he nipped the issue in the butt and now the game doesn't freeze up when exiting to the main menu or desktop. Instantanious and non-frustrating response now. As of today, I officially rate this game as 100% issue free. :)
Conclusion?
As the description said; - Have you ever played an open world game and thought "if only I could build something here?" - Or a city builder and wanted to drive around and interact with your creation? - Or even a building game and thought "if only these buildings would come to life?" I wanted all three of these things and every single one of them was met with absolute top marks. I could play an open world game and build by opening the map or my inventory. I could build a city and interact with it by either destroying it or going inside. I wanted to build something and be able to watch it come to life. Voxel Turf is unique as every single building is enterable and you can see people everywhere. There are office buildings, houses, apartments, warehouses, factories, you name it. The developer spent HOURS on each building to make it really pop out and look like a real-life building --- only in blocks. There's so much to do; so many possibilities. [strike]My only complaint thus far is the crashing.[/strike] Great work! I absolutely recommend this game, sale or no sale.

Very neat game from a one-man team. It's a concept I've been wanting to see implemented: GTAV and Minecraft elements. Of course, as the game is indie to the max, you shouldn't go in expecting the complexity and dev time those multi-million (and -billion) games have. Being able to build a city, run missions that will wreck havok on it, and then rebuild (or leave it looking like a warzone) is pretty cool. It's nice to see the care applied to building each of the game's buildings, especially on Special, unlockable buildings. It's also great that the game has multiplayer from the get-go. You click it and it just works. It's a surprise, given the hell I usually go through to get servers up for indie games. Going from struggling to make a few bucks, to making thousands of money per minute is really satisfying. With workshop integration, patches and modding, the game has potential to live on, past its release capabilities. For the price, there's definitely enough content to be enjoyed! As always do watch a few videos to see if it's your thing. Thanks for reading! :)

Easily now one of my favorite games. Being a fan of Sandbox, and City Building games, I had always wanted to find a game that had something akin to a First-Person, City-Builder. I believe I found that with this game that does a fantastic job of filling that niche and then some because of its Grand Theft Auto elements. The game can be played from several different angles, but generally does follow a basic setup of starting as a “Grand Theft Auto”-type game and then evolving into a City-Management game once all factions/turf gangs have been conquered. In comparing this game to Grand Theft Auto and the City-Managing genres, this game has missions that range from stealing cars, vigilante justice, building new buildings, sowing chaos, and even to doing things like espionage! And each time it is always fun just going in and eliminating the many gangs of bandits in their bandit bases, or just outrunning the city police after blowing up rival buildings! Further, if you are good at scripting, you can even create your own missions and share them on the Workshop; and I think having that possibility is something to look forward to for even more mission possibilities! The cities are procedural, or can be built from the ground up! Because of this, playthroughs will always be set in new environments. Since there is a ton of mod capability, you can create insanely large cities (kilometers upon kilometers of buildings), groups of cities to spawn into, or you can even go at it and build your own city / small country even, from scratch. The Developer is very active in the development of this game and listens to community feedback. As such, he has been awesome in implementing and updating this already amazing game; and I’ve noticed he updates the game about every 1-2 months. Nonetheless, he is still doing a great job of checking back in and changing things per the aforementioned community feedback. As such, and as the game stands now, I believe this game has a bit of something for anyone interested in any of the genres like a Voxel, Sandbox, Role-Playing, Shooter, Building, or Management game, and I couldn’t recommend it enough if those are definitely your style!

While I have mixed feelings on upvoting Voxel Turf - it surely is a labor-of-love with a ton of content that fills a needed niche. This really is GTA meets Minecraft. And that idea is great, but the execution leaves something to be desired at times. Lots of rough edges that I am sure are due to the usual time/money/energy on the developers end. I think multiplayer and Workshop support tip the scales to at least give the community a chance to make it their own and help it grow. Essentially, you are engaging in faction warefare in a voxel world sandbox. There are a lot of bells-and-whistles that you might not expect in something this indie. Things such as owning businesses and running protection rackets. We have not just cars, but aircrafts as well. There are missions and weapon upgrades and a nice variety of building materials. So what's the problem here? The rough edges. While I understand the UI has to handle a ton of things, I just felt it was awkward in my little time playing. Driving controls were 'okay' at best. The preconstructed buildings were really neat, but on closer inspection they are filled with super-cramped stairwells and weird areas, which I think could have been fixed with either smaller voxels or just bigger buildings. Some of the textures are great (the oven is fantastic), while some are quite rough. I need to give credit that the city felt alive, which isn't the easiest thing to do - but the AI starts to feel paper-thin pretty quickly. Again, I get that crafting GTA-level detailed cities is not going to happen here, but there is also the idea of taking on too big of a project with lofty goals. I do admire the effort, though. And all-in-all it's okay. Pros: +Great idea and we really need a game like this +Multiplayer and Workshop support add a ton of replayability and content +It is refreshing to have pre-built stuff to work with as part of the base game +The tutorial is well done +The price-point is more than fair Cons: -I'm not sure that I found it all that fun, but I am picky with voxel sandboxes at this point -Lots of rough edges that break the immersion and water down the experience -The UI is competent, but never felt perfect or anything -The driving controls and physics don't feel great (is it too floaty? Not sure) -Sort of a mixed bag with texture quality and cohesiveness (we have pixel art some places, and then, say, photos of what appear to be burlap elsewhere) If you are really into voxel sandboxes, you will probably have a good time here. Worth full price if you get into it.

The price even when its not on discount is awesome for the content you get! Honestly this game is incredible and difficult even on easy! Its like minecraft and gta had a baby and voxel turf came out. I don't leave alot of reviews infact I think this is my first but I felt this needed to be said and wouldn't want people missing out on this gem.

Conceptually this game is amazing. You take the best aspects of GTA: San Andres, Sim City, and Minecraft and combine their mechanics to form a game where you can progress in skill, progress in monetary value, create custom buildings and fight over turf or just make money. In practice, its actually pretty good. It takes a bit to get into the game, and it feels like everything is overpriced and a horrible grind at first and every enemy one shots you. This goes away once you learn the game and understand the mechanics and combat. The zoning, the protection money, the stealing cars, the cops, the enemy bases, the turf wars, and the random missions. It all adds up to be pretty awesome. Probably the best aspect is being able to custom create your own buildings as in multiplayer, you can load up a town with all your own buildings.

This game is so close to being amazing, but the clunkiness of the gameplay really holds it back. It's a wonderful mix of Sim City, Minecraft, and Grand Theft Auto. I love the rival gangs, being able to buy lots, or just outright existing buildings, and the whole economy aspect of the game. But dear lord, the driving and shooting. You're always going to be outnumbered until you're a decent ways into a game and can afford to hire goons. Enemies hurt, even on lower difficulties, and if you happen into a room with 2-3 guys, you're dead. You can 1v1 enemies, and kill 3 or 4 on your own and survive, but it's tough. This would be fine, if there was any kind of gunplay or cover system, but there's not. That's one of the two glaring issues with the game, guns just feel bad. They never feel powerful, except maybe rockets, and it really just comes down to baiting enemies and hoping you don't get overwhelmed. Cover does nothing except offer you a reprieve to reload. Taking even a small gang base can be a challenge, unless you cheese it by hopping on the roof. Considering this is such a large element in the game, I really wish they had refined the movement and the shooting to be something more than the most basic it could be. Outside of that, vehicles are terrible. They feel bad, with no weight or difference between them besides shape. Tanks/planes/helicopters are the only exceptions, as they at least do something different than the basic vehicles. Haven't tried planes, but helicopters feel pretty bad as well. They don't hold their level, and will tip forward past where holding spacebar to go up can keep it in the air, with a keyboard anyway. The worst part of the vehicles is any time you have to deal with police. You can't go anywhere. You just get surrounded and "pinned", even when there's space, or you should be able to nudge a vehicle out of the way for that little extra space you need. Lastly, I won't list this as an issue, or necessarily a negative, though I personally don't like it. The police arrest you by being near you. It makes sense if they pin your vehicle and you can't move, but if you can move at least a little, it shouldn't apply in my opinion. Beyond this, this also applies on foot, while they're unloading into your face. You can mow down hundreds of police, but the bar will slowly fill more and more. And they can do this over a pretty large range, so you'll often find yourself getting arrested through walls. Makes bank heists, or anything fun like that pretty tedious and frustrating. If you like basic and more childish gameplay, along with the other elements, then this is the game for you. If not, you might want to hold off. In some ways it's a masterpiece, in others, it's extremely lacking.

After playing this game for a few hours I can confidently say that this game is worth the money. After playing the game for around an hour or two on singleplayer I learned the basics and then brought up an online server with my dedicated machine. I've met quite a few players and gotten in contact with the developer he responds very quickly to any questions and bugs that are brought up. Anyways lets bring up the pros and cons. Pros+ - Open World that is always changing - Co-Op missions - Fast paced combat - Base building - City management - Active developer Cons- - Early Access, bugs are to be expected - Not very many players yet - Repetitive missions Notes: The way the game is set up I am sure that someone can create script custom missions and place them in workshop. I also think as time goes on the game will get a lot more players. In the future the game will definitely get more players. My server is one of the most popular servers currently and we are averaging about 20 players+ a day. Conclusion: If you like GTA, City Building, Gang PVP, etc. This game is perfect for you.

Do you like... Cities: Skylines Minecraft Sub-rosa Well you will love this game! and it's an absolute steal at £5.59 with the amount of features this has to offer and the level of detail that is currently in it. This game has a bright future. Grab it while you can!

This is one of those middle of the road ratings I would give a game. The game has some great ideas but still feels kind of like an empty shell of what it could be. I really like that in single player you can create your own empire, hire AI goons to follow you around and join in your quest for dominance in the city. The down side is that it only goes so far and is not very in depth and lacks a lot of detail. It feels more like a mod for minecraft rather then a stand alone game. I do however, feel the game is worth the price but I would still only pick it up on sale if you can. I don't know if I should give it a yes or no rating because I am torn...
