Syrian Warfare: Battlefields Features

The main forces of ISIS have been beaten, but the war is far from being over. Al-Qaeda is entrenched in Idlib, the remaining "blacks" are still roaming the country, and variously "moderate" jihadists are still waiting for their chance to strike a wicked blow from one of their numerous enclaves. Examples of bravery are plenty, both in the past and in the present, and many of the battles in this war we'd like to represent in our game. We're giving our players the tools to immortalize any of the battles in this war on their own!

The Syrian Battlefields DLC includes:

  • the level editor;

  • level scripting and editor manuals;

  • free access to all game resources, including data on units, weapons and other objects in a format easily accessible with Excel or other similar editors;

  • Steam Workshop integration for publishing and playing user-made levels and campaigns;

  • several new missions by the developers, focused on the Kuweires blockade in 2015 and the events in Eastern Ghouta in 2018. In these missions the players will get to see familiar faces and learn how Tiger-4's career began and how the war ended for Anwar Amin.

    This DLC contains the following: -A mini-campaign (2 missions) -A single mission -Map editor The damascus steel mini-campaign is excellent. Challenging, rewarding and a very good closure to the story. The mini-campaign by itself offers about 5~6 hours of gameplay The kweires defence mission is also not bad. You can count at least 2 hours of gameplay to finish it. It is also challenging and very entertaining. Then finally, we have the map editor. Players now can create their own maps and scripts, can also change Units, Weapons, ammunition, etc...parameters to create the scenario of their likes. The assets also contain British and American military assets which is cool! All this for only 3$ is a steal. Glad to see devs who don't suck the soul of their customers.

    ca 10 Hours playing Time consisting of 1 large Map and a small Campaign with two Maps (played on realistic Difficulty). + the Editor. No new Units Story consists of cutscenes and one reused Video,and finishes the Story of Anwar the Policeman . The Story itself is filled with the usual (imho hilarious) very prorussian Propaganda , even more so than the Base Game. It can be considered a Parody at this Point , with the superprofessional noble Russians supporting the righteous War the honest,simple Assad Soldier fighting for the good of the People against barbarian Hordes, the evil Snake/Mastermind enacting one unspeakable Warcrime after another, and all Westerners being either weak,stupid Sheep or devilish Puppet Masters. I enjoyed it, the challenge is higher than the basegame but doable, and the story , if taken not too seriously , is quite entertaining. Fazit : For 3 Bucks its ,imho, great Value, especially considering that it opens the Workshop for mods.

    I like this RTS game and bought the previous DLC's as well. This latest DLC I have bought purely for the editor and the workshop integration. I have worked with the editor for around 3 hours and in itself it is alright, but there are so many things unclear that it makes it hard to create just a simple skirmish setup. Placing units on the map is easy, but letting the units 'do stuff' and creating a player objective along with it is not easy at all. I have messed around with the triggers and the scripts, but it is giving me a headache and hours later I still can't even setup a simple capture objective with a marker on the map. I can work in an editor like in ArmA (Eden editor) just fine and create advanced missions, but in this edtor I can't seem to even get basic stuff like an active objective working. There is a manual that points out some basic stuff of the editor, but it really misses a step by step guide to set up a full 'basic' mission from beginning to end. I am giving the dlc a thumbs up though, because I can still play the custom missions from other players (that did had the patience for this editor) through the workshop. However, If you buy the dlc just for the editor like myself then expect to spend a lot of hours in the editor just to do some basic stuff. I am not giving up on the editor yet and I will mess around with it some more, but it is a test of patience!

    «Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.» - Definitely a quote by his Presidency Bashar Al-Assad Battlefields is the second and presumably final DLC for the 2017 RTS bombshell Syrian Warfare. Judging from the recent history of the developers, it sadly seems that they do not plan to continue working on the project, regardless how well the game was received by the players. This DLC offers 3 missions that continue both Tiger-4's and Anwar's story - yeah you heard that right. Our favorite Syrian Army officers are back in action. And this time they have some unfinished business to settle with their Jihadist archrival Wahid... The first mission «Last Men Standing» is about the famous Battle of the Kuweires Airbase in 2015. You once more step into the role of Tiger-4 a.k.a. Suhail Al-Hassan of the Tiger Forces and have the the objective to help out your besieged countrymen in the Kuweires airbase against Daesh terrorists. This map is once more huge and a tribute to Return to Palmyra's hectic missions. The side objectives are tough nuts to crack and many of the garrissoned enemy elite units make your life harder than it already is. But as we are accustomed to it already, it's all the more satisfying when you finally beat the mission after 3 hours. The other two missions are part of a mini-campaign called «Damascus Steel», named after the famous SAA operation against the militants in the Eastern Ghouta Pocket in 2018. Now these two missions are the actual shining gems of this DLC. The first mission is a huge cluster**** in the positive sense, much like the Damscus Suburbs mission in the main game, but this time even bigger, longer and better designed. It starts small with only a handful of elite units, but ends with a ton of armored vehicles, infantry units and fierce house-to-house fighting. Even the iconic green buses make an appearance at the end of the mission. The second and therefore final mission marks the end of Anwar's story, and this time he goes full attrition warfare on Al-Nusra and Daesh. This is one hell of a tough mission, and all your experience from the main game and Return to Palmyra is being demanded here. I do not want to spoiler anything else, but rest assured that you will love the ending and irony behind it. These three official missions are all in all worth about 6 to 8 hours which is a good deal for the small price. They are huge, detailed and very well designed and again kept me hooked until the bittersweet end. Now the other interesting aspect of this DLC is the Mission Editor that the devs finally made available to the public. If you already know the editor from its spiritual predecessor Warfare: Reloaded, you might recognize a lot of the same features. Cats Who Play also wrote a English and Russian manual for the editor and its scripting language, but to this date it is neither very beginner-friendly nor profoundly written. Therefore you may end up dissapointed if you thought you could simply boot up the editor and to create a couple of custom missions within a few minutes - it's really not that easy. You must have some understanding of scripting, AI behaviour, trigger zones and much more. It is actually at this point when you realize how much work and love only one complex single player map actually requires. Nonetheless there are already some talented fans and mappers emerging from the Workshop community, such as Tovarish Lieutenant and his solid fan mission The Hunt for Black Vladimir. At the moment he is even working on an amazing mini-campaign called Road to Deir-ez-Zor, of which the first two missions are available already. If he and other similarly talented persons continue to bring out more missions like that, there's a chance this community will flourish with quality fan missions and content. All in all I'm quite happy about the deliverance of Syrian Warfare: Battlefields, but also dissapointed that it seems to be the last official DLC for this game. We can look back at a great game that made fans of classics such as Sudden Strike shiver with ecstasy and kept them hooked on their machines for hours. This was definitely an epic ride and I salute the devs for delivering quality content. 8 out of 10 ATGMs

    Nice action to improve the game capabilities and giving the players an open hand to tell their own story make their imaginations.
