Its a very fun game, which I beat it in just under 4 hours (I think I was lucky) but will be playing more. Speed did seem a little bit more powerful then all the others, and the amount of xp gained for handing over a legendary sword at the moon festival seemed a little much. You can thank Tomato gaming for showing me this game on his stream.

Randomized samurai adventures on FTL-style node map with text-based fighting (quite complex paper-scissors, my fav game NeoScavenger also has combat like this). Choices you make define your character, dramatic story emerges!

Loads of fun for 3 bucks. Tons or replayablitity. Good humor. A better turn based combat system than you see in some top tier titles.

If you have been searching in vain for a samurai game developed by someone who actually has a clue about Japanese fencing and culture, you have found it in Shigatari. There is indeed a great deal more depth of play here than you might guess from the graphics, which are tasteful if not flashy. And the author is respectful of Japanese culture without losing his sense of humor about it. There is a slight learning curve in figuring out how combat works, but the system is well balanced and engaging, being mapped on actual Kendo (Japanese fencing) stances. It’s also a tidy little game, ostensibly good for short bursts, but with enough challenging avatar unlocks and Easter egg mysteries to keep me at it 40+ hours, at this point, and I still can’t put it down.

Well, I'm hooked. This really is a Samurai FTL, it's the best way to describe it. You've got a map to explore, a lot of random encounters, an end goal, and have to fight or clever your way through everything. You've also got a damn clever combat system based on how long a sword will take to swing or parry, along with a stat system that allows for lots of different builds. A strength build based on breaking parries and toughing your way through damage, a perception build that lets you know just where to block and when to feint, or a speed build so they can't even respond. As a bonus, you've got stances that really do change how your fight goes. Some can't thrust, some can't hit different locations, but on the reverse, some are a hell of a lot harder to read and guess where a hit's coming from or how fast it'll land. Grab a 1 hour Japanese instrumental video off of YouTube for best results while playing. Highly recommended, especially since it's only 3 bucks. Edit: Coming back to this game after a few years only cements how much I am impressed by it. The combat system is honestly genius. It's turn based on time, and (as an example) if you hit someone before their action is half done, you stop that action. The same goes for you. So suddenly you can see why speed or feints are so important, as is the sight stat. If you can read them, you have enough time to react. This game's distilled the microsecond reactions of swordplay into a turn based game. Bloody awesome.
