About the Game

Halloween is coming, for those that haven't experienced it yet, don't forget to grab the free Halloween DLC!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/547660/

There never quite seem to be enough bunny girls in the world, so here is another for you aficionados out there. This 2D sidescrolling exploration platformer follows the adventure of Erina, whose humdrum life as a regular rabbit is turned upside-down when she finds herself in an unknown world and turned into a human (with rabbit ears)!

Along the way she meets the cheerful pink-haired fairy, Ribbon, who mysteriously chooses to stay by Erina’s side.

These unwitting heroes embark together on their quest to restore Erina’s life to normalcy, but who knows what troubles lurk, waiting for them…

Rabi-Ribi is a 2D exploration platformer that focuses on non-linear gameplay. There will be hints to guide the player along, but they’re never required to follow them, which allows for much greater freedom to—you guessed it—explore.

Players will play as our protagonist Erina, who focuses on close quarters combat. Ribbon the fairy is the ranged attacker who follows Erina’s lead, indirectly controlled by the player.

Erina may be a little rabbit that was turned into a human, but that doesn’t stop her from being capable of some pretty neat moves.

Both Erina and Ribbon’s abilities can be improved by learning new skills and attacks through collecting items and upgrades that are spread throughout the world.

What trinkets and skills to pick up is up to the player; dare you challenge hard mode without any items?

– Retro exploration platformer featuring a bunny girl.

– 4+n difficulty settings for all types of players.

– 9+ main areas and 20+ sub-areas to explore.

– Bunny.

– Over 60 items and upgrades.

– Over 20 fully illustrated characters with cutscene illustrations.

– 40+ boss battles, 1000+ attack patterns with Boss Rush Mode to fight some or all of them in a row.

– Post game story and content with speedrun mode which takes out every section of the game where the player cannot control the main character.

– Over 50+ pieces from an original soundtrack.

– English, Chinese and Japanese support.

– Bunny.

So here's the thing. Nobody goes to Hooters for the hot wings. And this game wears its, ahem, fanservice on its sleeves. But listen to me. I'm a gay man. It's not just that I think the idea of skimpily-clad teenage girls is in questionable taste, it's that it doesn't appeal to me at all. There are not enough Y chromosomes in this game to hold my interest. All that's left in Rabi-Ribi for me are the bullet hell bosses, the metroidvania exploration, and (I can't believe I'm about to write this) the story. And, I swear on me mum, these are some damn good hotwings. The bosses are incredible. Most bullet hells give you five-ish boss fights you're supposed to grind until you have them memorized backwards and forwards and can execute them perfectly. Rabi-Ribi has dozens. Like, literally 50+. And every single one of them is bursting with creative patterns, unique theming, and inventive mechanics that require as much puzzle-solving as lightning-fast reflexes. The first phase of the final boss is a great example. Some of her bullets can damage you only when you're on the ground, some can only damage you when you're jumping, and they overlap in ways that force you to jump constantly. You have to frantically plan ahead to dodge when you're not going to be hit by the bullets that turn on the moment your feet leave the ground. That's an especially strong example, but every fight has something that creative going on. The metroidvania exploration is also a joy. The map is set up so that you go to each area in the game multiple times, and each time you can explore a little bit further. But more than that, you can also do a little bit of sequence-breaking. You simply take a wrong turn on purpose, follow it the end, already have what you need to get past all the obstacles, and bam! You straight-up run into bosses and advance parts of the story a little earlier than the standard route, and the story has alternate dialog to account for it. Just as frequently, you'll run into an obstacle you can't get past yet. But when this happens, the game gives you plenty of tasty permanent upgrades for your trouble. And then when the game sends you back, you'll breeze through the parts you've already seen only to get your teeth kicked in the moment you get to the new content. It's glorious. It's so meticulously planned, even with all the freedom you're given to go off the beaten path. And the story is actually pretty neat! It's definitely an excuse for anime girl fanservice, I won't pretend it's anything more than that. But what I honestly appreciate about it is that the vast majority of conflict comes from genuine, good-faith misunderstandings between well-meaning characters. Most stories have severe conflict that comes from dangerously evil demagogues who are willfully cruel or from deeply flawed main characters who struggle not to let their worst sides get the better of them. Rabi-Ribi doesn't bother with all that. It's just a bunch of girls who sometimes talk past each other, but when they get it out of their systems and calm down, they all just... discuss their problems. Like reasonable people. Again, it's not deep or philosophically compelling or of any serious literary merit. But gosh darn it, there's something refreshing about it all. There's no getting around it, the amount of fanservice in this game is pretty tasteless. And the fact that the characters aren't clearly at least 18 years old makes it decidedly problematic. But even so, there's an actually brilliant bullet hell married to a joyfully explorable metroidvania to be played. And the story's willingness to be nothing more than an excuse for anime girls gives it a sincere happiness that can't help but make me smile. Take it from someone too gay to be impressed by the moe lolis: You really, honestly, actually can get this for the gameplay.

This is the Monogatari of video games. If you can get over the borderline loli hentai, you're in for a best in class experience.

If the characters wore actual clothes, this would be a high recommendation for everyone from me. As it stands, if you like or can deal with the fanservice I'd still greatly suggest playing it. It's a fantastic game, and the character designs are my one and only problem with it.

I really don't understand everyone saying this game is lewd. Everyone in it is more clothed than your average woman at the beach in a bikini, even Pandora (the girl wearing a bikini), Cicini (the girl wearing panties), and Lilith (the literal succubus). But yes, the game contains many cute girls wearing appealing outfits. The game also contains gameplay that would make any Dark Souls expert cry. Don't let the cute exterior fool you, the game will kick your ass. This is a Metroidvania, but also a bullet hell game. You play as a bunnygirl with a penchant for whacking people with a hammer. Actually, I gave up writing this in the middle of it. Good game, you should play it. Just look at the overwhelmingly positive reviews. EDIT: Every song in this game is a banger.

I used to be alone, depressed, not having girlfriend, and always fail in life. But after 180 hours+ of playing rabi ribi, finally I achieved all achievements and these changed my life. Now, my life is still miserable as before but at least I am bunny lover xD.

Just like many who played this game, I had no expectations other than "cute bunny girl, I'm sold" when I bought the game. I played it a little, very little, didn't see anything too absurd about it, then didn't touch it for a few years (even because my laptop at the time died and the replacement couldn't handle games whatsoever). When I finally got to have a device that could run Steam games again, I decided to check through my library and saw Rabi-Ribi again. I went "why not" and tried it. That time, I stuck with it. It didn't take much longer for me to actually get to the meat of the game. Good God was I impressed positively. I'll give you a TL;DR immediately: to me, Rabi-Ribi is one of the best games I've played of all times, stat. Am I exaggerating? Possibly. However, that's how impressed it left me. Is it rather ecchi? Yep. Is it hard? Some fights took me so goddamn long, some I've had to retort to third-party tools to get through the first time around (and some end-game content, or DLC content, is so tough I've never beat it fair yet, despite how much I've tried and strived already, but I'm far from very good at this type of games). With all that in mind, you know what makes me LOVE this desperately even when so tough? It's a game made with love. You can see the passion of everyone that worked on it, from the art, to the gameplay, to the worldbuilding, to the story, to the music. It's funny that a game that made me go "Haha, that's Reisen from Touhou" ended up taking a place almost as big as Touhou with the incredible story and worldbuilding when being such a small project compared to many other games. I'm certainly one to enjoy the cutesy artstyle and the kind of story it tells truly appeals to me, but I wholeheartedly think there'd be something for everyone in Rabi-Ribi. Unfortunately, it's rather challenging at times, so much so I doubt everyone could complete it with ease. Nevertheless, it's worth a shot because this is truly a hidden gem. Everything is so carefully crafted that it's bound to tug at your heartstrings. The quality of every part of the game is superb. It's not some triple A game that redefines the gaming world, nor does it want to be. They made the absolute best they could with this without going overboard; and within their limits, they made something unique and that can definitely "redefine" indie games. There are a few titles that truly manage to make you feel incredibly satisfied with your time with them and Rabi-Ribi is one of those. It being a relatively small game (in terms of the production scale) is one of its strengths, because it uses what it can to the fullest and makes perfect use of the medium. The story is what shocked me the most. The game might've looked childish at first glance, but I've played Klonoa on PS1 back in the day so I knew well not to judge a book from its cover; but to say I was stunned by where things went would be an understatement. Again, it's not something revolutionary, but the way everything was crafted is so exquisite, so well thought... it truly stole my heart. It even was rather mature in the way things unfolded in places. Yes, there's comedy, there's fluff, but it knows when to hit hard, too, and doesn't shy away from it. The gameplay is also incredibly fun and addictive. I always find myself craving to replay some of Rabi-Ribi's bossfights. As I said, I'm far from good at bullet hell games, despite my love for Touhou (and Rabi-Ribi, of course), so I am suck against some of the bosses; but there are a few that truly entertain me to no end. When things remain simple, chaining attacks, learning patterns, and exploiting some of the more complex tricks feels so exciting to pull off, though watching more expert players challenge the toughest bosses on the hardest difficulties is insanely great, making you wish to eventually get to that point. There are definitely some parts I think went too hard and some bits that require you to truly master the game to get through without struggling too much (especially on a first playthrough), but the more insane bits are either extremely late into the story, or in the DLCs. I wish I could give a better review and go into details as to why I liked something or didn't, but this is what I'm capable of writing down. All in all, I recommend this game to anybody. If someone's skeptical and not sure they like the genres the game dabbles in, they can wait for a discount and get the base game then, play and then decide if they like it and wanna invest in DLCs or not. They cut the price off fairly often, and it turns very cheap, so I'd keep an eye on it. Worst case scenario, you tried at the very least! But I assure you that if you can put up with the game and see what it's to offer, you'll understand why it's such a precious treasure.
