+ good characters + neptastic adventures again + barefoot Blanc in VR + Good OST + nice visuals - pretty much unplayable - many bugs (audio vanishes randomly, pretty much framedrops in some areas) - crashing while transforming - crash in cut scenes - crashes always on Ram's Transformation - crashes when it wanna crash - graphic quality not adjustable (no official patch for it) - you can choose a upscaled 4k (which looks horrible) - or you can choose something different, but have to disable postprocessing --- both look horrible - performance is ass - some changes which are pretty much unnecessary (autosave, change battle system etc.) After 30+ crashes in 50 forms I give up continueing the game at the end. Luckily i played the superior original. Please play the original. Performance is better, no crashes etc. The only thing you wanna play the VR Version here is for the VR Events (which are enjoyable even you haven't got a VR Headset). This Port is pretty much a mess. I love the Neptunia series, but with no solution available to fight the performance and crash occurence. It turns players off. 50/100 ...50 Points for the nontechnical part.

Normally I don't write reviews to complain about the quality of the PC Port, but this port is genuinely abysmal. To preface this, VII itself is hands down the best game in the Neptunia franchise, and deserves to be played. However, you should instead play the normal version of VII. It does have less content and is different from VIIR, but it's worth not going through the headache of VIIR's port. Also, I have a PC that's waaaay above the recommended spec. RTX 2080 and i7 9700K. The short version is: - I use a 1440p monitor, and for some reason the resolution doesn't go above 1080p. Have fun running it in windowed mode or blowing up the image. - Performance is terrible. It's capped at 60fps but frequently drops harshly as if it was running on a PS3. There's also frequent hitches and freezes that should not be there. The PS4 version of VIIR ironically runs far more smoother than this, which I've also played. EDIT: I found out that disabling shadows and post-processing effect does boost performance by quite a fair but, but it still isn't perfect and it's ridiculous that I even need to do that in the first place, showing just how horribly optimized this port is. - If you're using a controller, the dead zones of the analog sticks are unnecessarily wide, making precise movements in dungeons more difficult with your characters or the camera itself. - Audio is completely out of whack. 3D cutscenes have improper timing for voice lines due to the uncapped frame rate, and sound effects are needlessly very loud in multiple areas, or just don't work entirely. It's a pretty embarassing thing to leave in, frankly.

For now the FPS when inside the VR experience is WAAAAY more choppy than the console version. I hope something will be done about it because it is far too distracting and prevents me from enjoying the scenes.

The game's an unplayable, disorienting mess- do NOT buy it in its current form. All the menu navigation and in-game prompts are for controllers; it's almost like no one sat down to ensure they actually coded in the right prompts for the PC. Hell, even once you're ingame, the prompts aren't that of a PC or your connected controller. Worse still- is the VR aspect. If you're playing on an Oculus Rift- the HMD does not track on the y-axis (height), and stretches things pretty badly depending on even minor HMD movements. Rift controllers aren't recognized at all; there's no response to any input, you cannot move around in there. Press "A"? Oh, you mean my "A" on my rift? No, ok. You mean my keyboard? Oh, ok, still no. Left click. Works. Seriously, what the hell- did anyone even test this before release?

There are no Tracked Motion Controller support. There are no full VR support. You only have a few little segments of the game in VR and they are don't work correct. It's a poor port form the PS-VR!

-This review is from the perspective of someone who does not have a VR headset. -I will talk about the gameplay aspects through my experience on PS4 alone, but I will update the review if there is any glaring changes in that aspect.
Gameplay
As someone that has played through the PS4 version of both VII and VIIR, I can say this is my best experience so far with this game. With that being said, let us talk about one of the biggest changes, the battle mechanics. VIIR features a new AP combat system that can seem disappointing at first when compared to the original VII, but quickly picks up mid-way through the game. After progressing with this new system, it begins to feel truly better than its predecessor with the freedom to perform many different actions per turn. In my opinion it feels like it just makes the game easier by the time you reach end game. Speaking of easier, that is what this game entails. Everything in this game seems streamlined and some people will hate it and others will love it. One of the most noticable instances is not having to grind throughout the story. The next streamlined part is the game only having one ending rather than three. This was the only major change that I highly disliked as one of VII's endings was good on its own just to be condensed with the true ending in this. The next change that is massively apparent and one that I question the developers on, is the lack of the enjoyable DLC characters from VII. Lastly, I have to cover the "VR" scenes added that are a major selling point. To me, these are just a nice little addition that makes you feel more connected to the goddesses. The reason I put VR in quotations is due to the only interactablity in the mode being a nod yes or no to the goddesses. I feel no need to pick up a VR headset to fully enjoy these scenes. Overall, I feel that the gameplay in this remake is a tier up in many ways.
-Graphics & Performance
One of the biggest reliefs right from the beginning is the glaring bloom from VII does not make a return. All dungeons and rendered cutscenes seem much clearer now. As for performance wise, I am having to run the game at 1080p as the game does not support 1440p or DSR, which is a disappointment. Other than that, I stay at a constant 60fps (locked) which is a massive improvement over the PS4 Pro's locked 30fps. It is worth keeping in mind that I do run a higher end system with an i7 6700k and GTX 1080.
-Bugs & Issues
So far, I have not ran into any crashes or freezing issues, but I have ran into a few bugs. First, the music loops are not triggering at the right time during scenes. It plays the entire track and then repeats itself from the beginning which can be distracting at times. Next, is a visual bug of weapon attack ranges appearing whitish rather than the PS4 version's orange to red range. The last bug that I found is the lip sync on some scenes seem to be a second off and seems to randomly happen. I have run into no issues in the available "VR" scenes, which in my case can be played without a headset.
-Conclusion
If you have not played VII since launch and/or enjoy the Neptunia franchise, I can highly recommend this remake. I had fun on my playthrough on PS4 and I am enjoying it again on PC now. If you are a new-comer to the series, I believe you can piece together the story up to this point and you will get to experience one of the better battle mechanics in the mainline series (in my perspective at least). Happy Nepping!

Mom came inside my room while I was using the VR mode, she stared for a while and then said "at least you're talking to a girl now" and then left the room. 10/10 would make her proud again

"New graphics engine" and yet there is very little better than VII (and lacking compared to 4GO.) They lumped all the post process together so you can't get rid of the atrocious FXAA without losing all the other post process effects. The result is if you run the game at 4k it looks like someone dumped water on your screen because it is still applying crappy post process AA. If you disable all post process the game looks super dark because they have some extreme bloom effect instead of real lighting. The graphics also appear to be upscaled to 4k. I failed to see any obvious improvement over the previous iteration especially considering you could use a mod to run the previous game properly in 4k. See below. The VR portion, on a high clock gtx 1080 card with HTC vive is the most choppy VR experience I've had and guess what? There are literally NO settings for the VR portion. They put subtitles way at the bottom of the viewing area where they can't be seen because HMD are not meant for you to turn your eyes only your head [turns out you can move the position of the subtitles by constantly holding the right controller stick up but it doesn't tell you this anywhere.] You can't move around. Even relatively near objects are rendered poorly and the overall detail level is low. If you set audio to surround sound, the voice audio for something in front comes out the rear speakers during VR scenes. Seeing the familiar Neptunia game characters in VR is really cool, so it's sad to see something with such potential fall flat. The game just isn't worth buying just for the VR and yet they had to mess up the core game, too. New combat system: the result is you have to hit a lot of extra buttons just to do normal things like end a character's turn. Instead of saving several combos, you create a new one at the start of each battle and have to edit it part by part to do something different. In the original version, you could just create 3 combo paths and change them only when needed. On top of that the SP to use special abilities builds up during the fight from zero. Basically it means you don't use abilities because the fights are generally over before you get enough SP to even start using them. Considering that a lot of the fun of Neptunia games are the amusing animated sequences for abilities, this was a particularly dumb 'improvement.' The game is missing many things that are in Megadimension Neptunia VII including DLC characters. I have a fairly high tolerance for half-arsed games when they are Neptune series but this just blew past my limit entirely. I have to reluctantly conclude it's a cash grab with the VR as the bait. EDIT: If you have a 4k screen, VII with the mod is absolutely a better game. Here are a couple comparison screenshots. Open them up large to see. Even the desktop icon for VII is better btw. https://imgur.com/a/DynMjL8
