I'm recommending this game, but I personally am refunding it. The game is good, it's a nice little strategy puzzle game, it's very difficult which is great. The reason I am refunding however, is the developers really bizarre attitude that the terrible UI is a feature, not a problem. Take for example, logs - if left out, they degrade. To prevent this you have to put them in storage. However, when you click on the logs, you are presented with a choice of villagers, and only one action they can take - chopping the logs. You hit this, and they turn into a lumberjack automatically and chop the logs into planks. How do you store the logs instead? Well let me quote the advice from the moderators (and not corrected or contradicted by the dev): Start quote: This game is made to be HARD above all it was made in a way that you NEED to discover everything for yourself. The game is realistic, if you're struggling with the tree wood gathering (for example), then ask yourself a simple question: How a lumberjack (is that era of time) will do if he was in that situation? (sic) End quote. Yeah - the official line is that part of the difficulty of the game is learning a UI that was purposefully made to be hard. If that sounds like mana from heaven for you, then my recommendation stands - this game is genuinely good, you will have a lot of fun. If that is a turn off, then I drop my recommendation. Walk away, check back in 6 months to see if they have sorted it out. That's what I intend to do.

For those who never played the original game, I recommend to not but it. However if you played like me, the 1994 PC version or his iPad version as well, then must check this updated version and buy it. You wont regreat. This is one of the best “old school” strategy game where you learn it playing since its not easy or so intuitive at first. I spent 13h playing and after starting 5 new games I can tell you that only now I´m make good progress. The author told about starting it as many time as you want to get practice and discovery how to progress. I’m already at season 289 and suffering some misfortune due to bad decisions but this is how life goes one. The first games I never crossed the barrier of 100 seasons!! Some tips after many headaches I had! :) 1. Each season has its own particularity. For example: Autumn is the best period to chop down a tree and Spring to turn it into planks. 2. Make sure to plant flowers otherwise you may run out of log during winter and you population get ill and would die quickly. 3. Never attack a wolf. It won’t attack you unless you do it. I did in my very first game then my pop got attacked and I lost less than 50 seasons. 4. Try always to have one male and female per house, so you can keep you pop growing. Otherwise move it, as pioneer, to another house. 5. Build ASAP a Lab so you can research interesting stuffs to progress in the game. I understand people who never played and expected something more about this game. Read carefully all analysis at Steam or any other forums around web. This is not a game like Civilization series, Europa Universalis, Empire Total War, etc. Like I said before this is an old school genre of game. I applaud the author Thomas Zighem to bring back this kind of genre from 90’s to XXI century! :)

Is this game done? It seems inferior to your original creation. You've lost the atmosphere and the grand game play of the original. I'm sorry to say this is a pale remake a a once great classic. I wish that the original can just be cloned with better graphics - that would have been so good. I'm really sad to see a legend die.

If you're looking for the original Ultimate Domain (US) / Genesia (EU), then steer clear of this game. I paid $19.99 for it and tried to give it a fair shake after discovering it's not much like the original. Sadly that is when I learned that if you play more than 2 hours on a game you are automatically disqualified by Steam from receiving a refund. Note to self, don't give games a fair shake if you don't love them after 20 minutes anymore. Perhaps the developer will one day turn this into a game worthwhile, but at it's current condition, it's not worth more than $1.99, and that's being generous.

Wow, what an awful game. I played the original Ultimate Domain so much when I was a kid that I have all 5 maps memorized. But if you're expecting to wage war with old Karnak and Sun Tzu, think again. After 15 minutes, I got in a loop of collecting unlimited resources without ever being allowed to capture standards to expand my empire, or ever given new settlers to fill my empty houses. I never caught a glimpse of any other civilization and was blocked from making multiple workshops or inventors, so inventing crawled along at a snail's pace. There wasn't anything to do but watch animals move back and forth as my villagers continued stockpiling huge amounts of gold and resources to no purpose. The only thing to break up the tedium was random attacks by brigands. To add insult to injury, the graphics and gameplay feel like just a cheapo Chinese mobile strategy game, and the game inserts all sorts of juvenile sound effects and dialogue such as burping, farting, sex noises, diarrhea noises, etc.

I loved Genesia/Ultimate Domain when it was first released in the early 90's, it had it's own style, both when it came to gameplay and presentation. While there was games out like Populus it still felt it was an unique game. To my great joy a new version of the game is now available, it's not a re-make but a new game, however still in the same style! It should be noted this isn't a game for everyone, it takes time, there is depth and it's not easy to master, there is no tutorial but it's more up to the player to learn and explore the game, old-school in that sense. While I have not played it at length yet it's been stable, graphics are suitable and the music familiar! Already there seems to be lot to do and I love the local hotseat option! For anyone who loves a strategic challenge and turn-based games I can really recommend it!

I'm very happy with this reimagined version of Genesia because that's exactly what it is. It's Genesia from 1993 given enough updates to make it fresh but not too many to turn it into something else. Plus points... No egg timer. Turns last as long as you need which is crucial because.... The world is hard. Forget wishing for the enemy AI. The world itself isn't easy to thrive in. There's a lot to balance. Environment, food, water, exploration, expansion and scraping together some kind of economy by making settlers work hard and varied tasks. The pace is also much slower than the original. Expect to develop slowly and under constant threat of collapse. Combat is nice and simple too. Cons... none 😀 While I look forward to the updates post early access I'm in no hurry. This is a really good early access game.

It takes a while to learn and get used to all the rules, which may be frustrating during the first few hours, but after overcoming that learning step (trial and error, similar to Banished), Genesia Legacy is fun and original. This early access is stable and new features are added quite frequently. Really looking forward to seeing the next updates.

I played the original 1994 version of the game. It’s a fun little turned based strategy game. You have to manage your population well which can be hard to do. The UI is a little rough and very nonintuitive is a downfall of this game. However, once you are able figure out how everything works it becomes much easier, as you might expect. $20 is a reasonable price for what you get. I would recommend buying this game.
