Not as good as the base game, but a decent continuation of the story. A single playthrough is probably only 1-2 hours. Virgil's gameplay is a bit different than Dante's, so it's nice to mix it up a bit, but the main game had (understandably) more substance.

It's short, but if you're itching for some more DmC, Vergil's Downfall has that. The combat is different enough to be worthwhile and the chapters have the same appeal for those of you who play multiple times. If you're also a fan of Asura's Wrath, there's a weird (out of place?) nod in there as well.

Vergil’s Downfall is a tale of rising from a young man with his dreams and hopes crushed into the Demon King, following his revived plan of ruling the world while craving more power, in other words: Vergil is turning into the one old fans know and love and new fans elaborated plot twist. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=376447338 The DLC serves as the epilogue for the main story, where Vergil is weak and broken and falls on his fathers tomb, accessing a dimension where he is haunted by his torments. While following the advice of the hollow version of himself, he does the things needed to kill his humanity, his past passions and he meets someone who loves him to declare that he is reborn and absolute power is his only meaning. There’s an epic boss battle which involves fighting his hollow version, in order to reclaim one of his old abilities and kill his self-doubt. In the last level you’ll be a nephillim that’s exploding with power; Vergil looks like Nelo Angelo(though he didn’t became that). http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=376447824 The Combat is a lot different than the main game, since Vergil got his own move sets and abilities. While Dante is more brutal and raw, Vergil is precise and elegant. He doesn’t use chains, he use blades that teleport him or the target, he doesn’t use guns, he use illusionary swords, he uses the same blade(Yamato) in both demon and angel mode and he is a bit more difficult to master than Dante, but it all gets easier and more stylish as you unlock more of his moves. His devil trigger bar is fragmented, since some moves require one or more parts of it at once to be used. In the last level, you’ll unlock his doppelgänger, which will use your devil trigger bar like Dante’s; triggering it will bring the doppelgänger to fight alongside you, so the enemies die two times faster and your style points are two times easier to maximize. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=376448683 The locations have their surreal charm, only this time the colors are more vivid and the design seems to be more original. The enemy variation is definitely something that wasn’t on the priority list when the DLC was developed. The length is of 2 hours, but there are a ton of difficulty modes(by playing them you’ll gain one new skin) and unlocking the others of Vergil abilities is tempting. The cutscenes involve moving drawings, although it may seem that it’s so because of the limit of the development time, the style fits. If the ending of the main game failed to make you want for a sequel , the ending of the DLC definitely will. After all, both Dante and Vergil got on the roads old fans knew them to be.

I didn't enjoy this DLC very much. The story wasn't particularly interesting, it's just Vergil being a sore loser and hallucinarily living out his newly found hateboner for Dante and Kat. I enjoyed the presentation, but combat with Vergil feels a lot clunkier than it does with Dante, and the ending is infuriatingly anti-climactic. Get it if the story interests you or if you're an achievement hunter.

I came to this with low expectations after reading the reviews, but that didn't help much. The original game was one of the best games that I have ever played. This DLC feels like a community made map pack and not like a sequel. There's effectively no plot: The games takes place at some another dimension in which Virgil just go and slay hollow representations of his enemies. There's no actual interaction with real world characters. The maps all look kind of the same and the game just ends at some point as there's no final boss. The cut-scenes are all made of 2D animation and consist of boring dialogues. Virgil's moves are less fluid's than Dante's and he has no interchangeable weapons. This DLC leaves a bad taste after the awesome original game. I wouldn't mark it as "Not Recommended" if it was free, but I don't think it's worth any amount of payment.

Stylish Rank: D OOF. What an awkward experience this was. Apparently this DLC came out only a few months after the game was released and it REALLY shows. Maybe instead of making a pitifully short campaign that serves as a character assassination they should have focused more on refining Vergil's combat and just made him playable for the main campaign... you know, like every other Devil May Cry? - Story has almost no context, none of the events leading up to this are clarified or explored in any depth, leaving questions that will never be answered because no one cared. - A few short missions that are a string of repetitive fights using the same combo of enemies, occasionally broken up with basic platforming. - Environments are mostly static now, and made entirely with reused assets. - Playing as Vergil feels stilted and clumsy - One boss fight While I didn't care for Vergil as a fedora-wearing hacker-man freedom-fighter, this DLC paints him as turning even WORSE than the antagonistic Vergil of the mainline Devil May Cry games and makes him into outright despicable villain. Was this supposed to be bait for a sequel that never happened? It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth and I wish I didn't play it.

They either had a tight schedule or ran out of money for this one. They clearly tried, to the point several mechanics were inspiration into 4/5's Vergil, but this campaign is disappointingly lacking in polish and impact. Many of these mechanics are cumbersome or not well implemented, the levels flat out are not well put together, the pacing is uneven and while the narrative within is not awful, it's hurt by some low quality artwork cutscenes. The worst part is not all of them look awful, some of the pictures are very good actually, but the faces and resolution are both poor and really hurt the delivery. Only worth playing to see the genesis of these new gameplay additions if you're the type of person who enjoys that kind of stuff.

Bad missions with a shitty story, along with some boring ass battle because Vergil is so slow and not fun to play.
