This is an odd collection when it comes to the title of this game. Castlevania Advance Collection. One would think this would just be the Gameboy Advance titles. And they would be wrong. While this collection does indeed include the 3 Castlevania titles from the Gameboy Advance, it also includes 1 entry from the SNES Castlevanias in the form of Dracula X. It makes me wonder why they did not just call this Castlevania Anniversary Collection Volume 2. It's definitely not a knock on this collection, but rather just a curious observation. In any case, yes, you get all 3 original GBA CV titles. There actually was a 4th GBA Castlevania, but it was just a port of the original Castlevania, which is not included in this collection mainly because it also available in the 1st Castlevania collection. And there was not really any difference between the GBA and NES versions, other than apparently a save system being added, and oddly, the end credits being removed from the GBA version. The 3 GBA titles are a nice package for fans of the mostly non linear Metroidvania side of the Castlevania series. The Metroidvania formula is intact in all 3 titles. Start in a section of the map, and progress forward while finding some linearity at first. However upon picking up certain powerups, the linearity starts to fade away and the game now becomes more open ended. Powerups can range from your typical tropes of allowing for wall jumps, double jumps, floating, increased strength to move large objects and more. Each game has a variety of these to collect to allow you to progress and explore more of the maps. You also get some RPG elements in each game that range from equippable gear that can alter stats, and also leveling up for different effects. Dracula X is the only title in this collection that is not a Metroidvania, and is instead more akin to Classicvania. This means progression is instead far more linear, and based on levels rather than 1 massive map that you explore. It is also a remake or re-imagining of the classic TG-16 title: Rondo of Blood. Because of it's more straightforward linear approach grounded in Classicvania roots, this will also be the hardest title of the bunch to tackle. And for some, that is not entirely a bad thing. All of the games, including Dracula X feature a bevy of monsters to fight ranging from skeletons, floating heads, zombies, werewolves, knights, and other bizarre creatures. You fight with either whips or swords mostly depending on which game, but can also use alternative weapons such throwing daggers, holy water, and more. There are also plenty of boss fights in each game! As for which game is the best? Well, there's no right or wrong answer here, as everyone's opinions will differ. What matters though is that each game will have stuff to offer most fans of the Castlevania series. The collection includes a couple of QOL features to make things a bit easier, such as being able to save anywhere in the game, as well as a nifty rewind feature. Other included features are things like saveable replays, a music player, artwork, and different region versions for all 4 games. You can also resize the games from pixel perfect, standard and full screen. Full screen does stretch the game a little keep in mind. Standard imo is the best way to play this. There's not much left to say. This is a solid collection, and while it may have half the titles of the 1st collection, I think it more than makes up for it with quality titles all around.
