The Ministry of Introductions is honored to introduce Hector, the ex-landlord succeeded by Carl Stein. You may remember him being beaten and then dragged away, but things aren't always what they seem to be...

Welcome back to the grim dystopian future of Beholder, where ordinary people struggle to survive while subjected to the directives of an iron-fisted Government! The time has come to tell the stories of:

  • the one who has fallen victim to a horrifying mistake and is now desperately seeking salvation;

  • the ones who broke the law to find happiness and are now facing the consequences;

  • the one who risked his life for the State but has been left behind;

  • the one who had everything but lost it all;

  • the one who mews!

You'll meet many others, all of whom are living under the same roof – and under the thumb of a government that has absolute control over its citizens and never turns its peering eye away!

    Note: A lot of what is covered on my review for the base game applies to this DLC as well. Play as Hector, the guy you see beaten and taken away at the beginning of the base game. Deal with old and new tenants. Feed the cat. Try ridiculous concoctions from an alternative medicine quack. Oh yeah, and also find a way to not be euthanized, as the government is under the impression that you’re 85 rather than 65. Don’t you know that when you’re that old, you’re no longer useful to the Great Leader?! Praises • You can pet the cat. • You can possibly talk with the cat, if you do certain tasks. • The magic potions are amusing. Rosa talking about walking around naked was the best. • Demonstrates how f*cked up it is for the elderly to either work to death, or die when they’re no longer “useful”. • Shows how the impartiality of bureaucracy is actually unethical at times. • Story continuity is good. The player can see how some of the tenants from the base game got to their situation. Complaints • You can attempt to be rid of the cat. • Collecting DNA samples at the beginning is a pain in the a$$, because the children rarely leave apartments 1 and 2. More time should be allotted. It’s a decent amount of content for $4. I recommend it to those who enjoyed the base game. I mean, come on, there’s a cat.

    Mechanically, the DLC is more or less the same as the base games' is and is still really solid. I'd say you should get this for more beholder but not for the character driven story aspects. The initial setting got me hooked to know what did Hector do to get the apartment in the state that it is in the base game at first, but once half of the Manisheks move out . There isn't really much of a story to be had anymore, in between the inventor which was just used as an easter egg generator and a murderer who is under utilized, returning characters that were completely wirtten off to opt for the new characters, there isn't that much to write home about. There is also the quest line with the police officer and his wife but they serve the same purpose as the checkpoint worker from the base game. Overall the DLC is hyper focused on expanding on the world building and less on the character stories from the base game which makes for inconsistencies in transitioning from blissful sleep to the base game, especially the health care worker who's just wasted as funny traditional medicine and achievement man and doesn't leave. Overall story had so much potential but very little was delivered. There is also a small peev that wasn't a big issue but is now ridiculously overlooked in the game, the fact that half of the cutscene narration doesn't match with the caption is very annoying. Overall the whole cutscene not matching the captions and the story basically forgetting the micro and opting for the macro I wouldn't recommend this to anyone looking to make sense of the prequel to the core game. Good for lore, but way to much funny things going on, literal skeletons in the closet, talking cats and a man who can cause limbs to regrow all prefaced by the state looking for traitors using genes, and a child who gets hit by a car and leaving a man broken beyond repair makes it seem that the story lost its focus somewhere when the traditional medicine guy comes into play. Not to mention, the many missed opportunities for more quests' and endings left me dissapointed. Get it for the gameplay, not the story. I also have some more things I want to say about the story that I really get on my nerves. I was excited also to see the a returning character see her leave her "lazy husband", but instead the devs decided that, no, she already left her husband and she's a mistress to the artist. One more is how we don't see Manishek actually turn to an addict or ruin himself instead we get that for a brief second in a cutscene. Plus we never got a quest to tear down the Schimmer's or Manishek's childs' bed which just disappears in the base game?

    NICE DLC! I got through it and it is fantastic! I didn't make it though lol. Avoiding this "blissful sleep" is too hard if you choose to have sympathy for others! Other characters are also great with their backgroud story. But at least I have no regret. Btw, you guys have to feed ur cat. it's too cute to be left alone! Keep making us amazed Beholder plz XD

    Just finished my first playthrough, and I'd say it provides a damn fine experience for a favorable price. Adds more variety and depth to an already great game; you won't be disappointed.

    This DLC gives you a completely new scenario that takes place before Karl Stein took over as landlord in the apartment block. It's pretty good, especially since you get to see the backstory of some of the characters who appeared in the vanilla game.

    It's good but way too short .... 5h at top ... for 90%-100% achievments But hey it's 3€ and adds a lot on backstory ;)

    Great DLC. It still conserves the same feeling as the original but succed to also live by itself. A bit short, but have a lot to show and tell.
