A Lozenge Features

Michelle is nauseous every car trip. A ginger lozenge may make her feel a little better, but this morning that’s a lot of pressure for a hard candy.

“A Lozenge” is a short interactive story about motion sickness, dedicated to children of divorce. In the format of a 10-minute visual novel, it lets the player join Lucy and Michelle on their mother-daughter road trip.

They will play as Lucy, a newly separated mother of a 9-year old, Michelle. They will hear Lucy’s thoughts, feel her doubts and anxieties and help her comfort her daughter by making occasional dialogue choices.

“A Lozenge” is the third in Party for Introverts’ anthology of emotion-driven interactive short stories, along with “Thing-in-Itself” and “From Head to Toe”.

Features:

  • 10-minute interactive story with grounded emotional narrative

  • Hear Lucy’s thoughts, feel her anxieties and help her pick the right words to support her daughter

  • Unique, digitally painted artstyle

  • Original music score by Alex Francois

A short and sweet game about a mother and daughter driving home, and their caring relationship.

Short but still interesting. A slice of life existential story. If you are into it then it is worth having a look. A few choices only but still interesting.

A charming short story to enjoy with a hot cup of tea.

This is a sweet little game, though be aware it is very short. My first run was about 11 minutes. It's a good story told in a short period and it sure does make you feel. It's also possible to get all the achievements in a single playthrough. These aren't detrimental to the game in any way but are things you should be aware of when you buy.

Normally, there's a point in these interactive stories where I wish I could speed thing up a bit. But this game is that short that it never came to this. Every of the ~5 or so dialogs hit home, and then the credits rolled.

I recommend that everyone experience this thought-provoking game by Party for Introverts. Divorce hasn't been part of my life so far, but this story makes me empathise with those that have experienced it, and it makes me think about how best to guide children through the difficult process. The softened art style ties meaningfully into the story's melancholic tone, and the subtle facial animations really bring out the fragility of both characters. I love how their emotions come to life through the movement and shape of the text on screen, I really got a sense of how they were feeling from one line to the next, and how emotions can change on a dime during times of stress. Thank you for this experience!

As a child of divorce, I remember car rides like this. This game captures a tiny slice of what that can feel like. Wonderful music as well and overall art direction--there's a really tangible melancholy to the game.

My Experience After seeing such potential in developer Party for Introverts' last game, From Head to Toe, I wanted to play A Lozenge as soon as possible. I was rewarded with an exceptional piece of art - this game is even better than the last. The lozenge itself is a superb metaphor - what can Lucy really say to Michelle in this moment that would actually be helpful? However, her attempt to present an illusion of normalcy is poignant, however much it falls short. Sometimes it's all you have to give. Parental separation is almost inevitably damaging, but even if the parents were to remain together, the child certainly perceives and is affected by the tension. But how can a child understand the weeks or months it took her mother to collect the resolve to leave? Why can't we just go back for the toy she forgot? I'm not sure that these comments are helpful to a potential buyer, but I wanted to depict in some way the multiple layers that make up what is actually happening during this mother/daughter road trip. This game says an awful lot in 15 minutes.

Nice and touchy, but short for a price.

A Lozenge is a very short interactive story about a young girl and her divorcing parents. Michelle suffers from car sickness so her mother gives her lozenge for it. Her parents are divorcing and today is the day that they are moving out of the house. During their trip to the new house Michelle asks heartbreaking questions about her dog, her father and their love for her. It's a touching story which is shown through beautiful artwork. The game is only 10 minutes, so it is very short! I think it has a good message, but in all honesty I don't think it's worth the price even if it's really cheap... I've seen games like this for free on Steam.
