1976 - Back to midway Features

The story

It’s the year 1976. We’re in a dystopian reality in which the Nazi army ended up defeating the Allied Front and winning the Great War. In this apocalyptic parallel universe, Hitler has declared himself Supreme World Chancellor and, what’s even more terrifying, Tyrolean pants are all the rage across the globe.

However, there’s still hope. Despite the scarcity of resources, the Allied resistance’s brightest scientists, led by the eccentric Dr. Ivan Ivanovich, have made the impossible possible: they’ve built a time machine.

Thus, thanks to the Quantum Air Combat Simulator, the Virtual Reality prototype designed by Dr. Ivanovich, you’ll have the opportunity to travel back in time and take part in the most momentous air battles of World War II.

But pay attention! Playing with quantum reality and altering the path of history can have the most unforeseen consequences…

Classic Essence / VR Technology

Sit in front of the huge 3D Quantum Simulator screen, fasten your seatbelt and relive the magic of legendary vertical scrolling titles.

Alternate the “classic” point of view with the first-person perspective, while performing impossible maneuvers to dodge enemy fire. Be amazed by the dynamic scenario elements that will pop off at you. Never has a simulation seemed so real and fast-paced.

Air Combat / Immersion Zones

As Ivanovich Games already did in the successful “Operation Warcade”, all the scenarios in “1976: Back to Midway” include several Immersion Zones, which allow the player to move inside the aircraft cabin, offering new and thrilling challenges. An experience that only Virtual Reality can provide.

Take control of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning and the B-17G Flying Fortress exact replicas, test your pilot skills, become a flying ace, and change history forever.

Features

  • 16 story-mode levels filled with humor.

  • 24 immersion zones.

  • 64 missions.

  • More than 200 aircraft upgrades.

  • Tons of action without tutorials or inserting coins; enjoy infinite retries.

  • Compatible with Vive, Oculus, and WMR.

  • Compatible with HOTAS controllers, PC controllers, Xbox, PS4, and, of course, VR controllers: Index, Touch, Wand, etc.

  • Compatible with motion simulators.

https://youtu.be/ttXQxQOURUQ Back in the golden days of the arcades, these shooters were great fun to play, but sure ate up a lot of coins. Now we can play these amazing games in the comfort of our own homes. And with the added benefit of VR we are transported into a new way of playing. Amazing visuals and great game play with easy to use controls, 1976 Back to Midway is great fun to play, and really makes you want to have one more go to beat that high score. The immersion zones are perhaps not to every ones taste, but you can avoid those if you want to and just concentrate on playing the traditional shooter. I've recorded some game play footage to see here to give you a taste of what the game is about, but it really doesn't convey how it actually plays once you don the VR helmet, in my case an Oculus quest 2.

With this game and 'Operation Warcade' Ivanovich games have a winning formula that should be baked into all of their games: > Take an old arcade game. > Put the player in the cabinet and in front of a screen - But *make that screen 3D* > Then have moments where the game goes into full immersive VR. > Don't take yourself too seriously and make a gaming experience that is just fun, and addictive. After playing the demo over and over and after a short session with the full game, I can see that all of these juicy currents are there in the bun. It takes all of what made Warcade work and improves significantly on it. Basically, any game these guys make with that formula intact - I will buy. Wouldn't a Golden Axe game be fun? Huh? One day, the devs will (I hope) have built up and entire arcade of classics - and string them all together (i.e., don't waste your time on that other stuff you do!) This is simple, old school arcade fun. In a world that is crazy over-stressed, 1976 takes me back to that more simple, fun time.

I heard about this game a couple of weeks ago and the game intrigued me. I'm not a hard core gamer; I love the games from the 80s where there isn't a huge learning curve, you don't need to worry about constantly swapping out weapons, you don't need to figure out complex rules, you just need to click that start button and play. If you love those type of games that are fun with incremental waves that add challenge, you need to get this game. This is one of the few games I've purchased on its launch day and it did not disappoint. As soon as I was done with work for the day, I dove into it and played for 90 minutes (until my wife got home from work). I see many, many hours of playtime in the future. My only suggestion is that when using the VR controller to steer the plane in immersion mode, it would be nice to have an inverted controller option (I am not great at pushing forward to dive).

This game is FUN!!! X-Large screen for old school play is very well implemented and I love transitioning to immersive 1st person. Not stingy on power-ups or upgrades. Can take upgrade back to levels you had trouble on at any time. Very cool how this is presented in VR! Really enjoyed my 1st few hours on demo and decided to purchase.

Awesome game with a 1943 and Sky Force Anniversary/Reloaded vibe, but in VR! Definitely hoping to see more VR games like this in the future. That said, adding remote and local coop would be a welcomed addition.
