Rundown: a limitlessly-replayable asteroids-meets-bionic-commando-meets-bullet-hell action roguelite, in which your attention and reflexes are repaid with sweet, sweet explosions. Not an early-access title, game is already feature-complete, but the dev also has a reliable track record for content and bugfix updates which address player feedback--see Hyperspace Dogfights. If the game looks a little visually complicated, there's settings for that, and more than most games get for toning things down. If the game looks a little complicated to play, there's also more settings than most games get for *that*, too. Definitely worth the price. Here's hoping enough people get the hype out so this dev can keep making great games.

*Enemy fleet: Check. *Ship Weapons: ERROR *Space Bungee cord: Check. "We can work with this." Now for the more serious part: Red Tether is a wonderful take on a rogue-lite shmup-style game focusing on one mechanic and making it work in a variety of ways for you. That "space bungee" will be your offense and your defense so better get good with it. Other than that, you'll get the usual rogue-lite elements such as randomized enemies, a variety of items to find and some permanent stuff to unlock. What's not to like right? For those familiar with the other work from Sleeper Games, you'll find some similarities between Red Tether and Hyperspace Dogfights but due to the mechanic of the tether, feels more slow paced and more "puzzle-y" compared to the chaotic (yet fun) mayhem that was HD. Don't be fooled though, stopping is still a bad idea. And the action just keeps coming. And if Sleeper Games' earlier work is something to go by, it's safe to say the community will still have a good impact in the future shape of this game with regular updates. And to end things on a lighter note; here are some fun things to do in this game: *Pull the missile launcher of a ship, hit the ship with it. *Give the ship that shot a missile at you his missile back. *Hit a ship, with your own ship. Become the missile! *Hit a ship, with another ship. *Hit a ship, with the debris of his friend...ship. *Use a ship, to fling yourself into another ship. Yeah, you'll be hitting a lot of things with a lot of other things. It's great.

Dark souls, but in space. And your sword broke so now you have to fling space junk at the enemy. And you have to fling yourself so you don't die to random shit like turrets, missiles and SUS Mistakes are punishable by death. No reinforcements expected. All communications jammed. Nanoforge corrupted, weapon fabrication impossible. You cannot stop the fleet. There is no hope. no salvation, not even the peace of death. Valhalla is not for the wicked. only you, your 'rebel' retrofitted ram-tug, and a tether fab. fling and ram, until it's done. godspeed, pilot. The future of mankind is in our hands. [Pilot recovered by Splatter_Cat]

A unique and creative game that takes ideas and concepts usually never found within the same genre in a marriage. The UI can get a little to get used too but once you are well adjusted it is an utter blast!

Reviewing this so I can say: it is criminal how few people have heard of or even played this game. it has so much soul and love put into it, and people really should give it a try.

This is one of those games that I'm morally obliged to leave a good review for. I don't like writing reviews, but I have to do this if I want to sleep at night. It's got style, good music, fun stuff to unlock, and it's fun. Look at my hours... I've got 80 as of 12/20/22 and I'll keep playing for a long time to come. There's also the whole, "oh golly I made a suggestion, or raised a concern, and now a couple days later there's a patch, and in those patch notes I see my issues have been addressed" thing going on here. A dev actively listening to the community is what I'm saying. Not to mention so far, there's always been cool stuff added to these games after release. Not dlc, just free content. So that's good. Anyways morally obligated thumbs-up. I'm lazy about this stuff. I don't write reviews for fun. Oh and if you've read this far check out Sleeper Games previous title, Hyperspace Dogfights... I have about 500 hours in that one. I only stopped playing because this one came out.

Absolutely captivating, in no small part due to its amazing aesthetics, music, and sound design, not to mention the truly clenchworthy (but fair) challenge it poses in its gameplay. I decided to check Red Tether out after really enjoying Hyperspace Dogfights, which was graciously donated by Sleeper Games to that massive itch.io bundle for racial justice. Red Tether has a far slower pace compared to Dogfight's blistering speed, but not agonizingly so. I found that it speeds up significantly as you get better. Your ship's thrusters don't give you a high level of maneuverability on their own, which was a bit frustrating at first, but I think it's a good design choice. It forces you to use your tethers for the mobility they provide, stay close to the battle so you have things to tether on to, and manage how you use the limited number of tethers you can have deployed at once. You usually can't just tether a whole fleet together and zoom away with no fear of retaliation. I haven't gotten past wave 42 at the time of writing this, but I feel like I could eventually once I get good enough. There is some meta-progression with unlocking new ships and upgrades, and you're not by ANY means dependent on meta-progression in order to do well. Unlocks simply expand the possibilities of a run, and it feels very rewarding to unlock something new to spice things up with once you've proven your mettle with the tools you have. I am very much looking forward to future updates. Even if this game isn't to your liking, I recommend checking out Hyperspace Dogfights as well, and any future titles Sleeper Games puts out.

I recently decided to buy this game because I also enjoyed Hyperspace Dogfights and it has definitely not disappointed despite being wildly different. This game is just as addicting as Hyperspace Dogfights and definitely worth your while if you like grappling around in space and obliterating opponents fifty times your size. Just as in Hyperspace Dogfights there almost feels to be a sense of exploration and novelty just in discovering the names of enemies, all of the enemy varieties, and especially the boss fights despite there not being any exploration.

I'm playing Steam games in alphabetical order, and you can watch my review here: https://youtu.be/3xx2xihilTU tl;dr FTL meets Just Cause meets Red Faction in this top-down space shooter rogue-lite that tasks you with destroying an invading fleet with (basically) nothing but a bunch of contracting tethers. The music and sound effects are sublime, the gameplay is tight, and there is so much replayability thanks to the range of upgrades, level variety and boss designs. This is an underrated game that deserves your attention.

The mechanics are cool, the graphics are cool, and the game is overall cool. I personally bought the collection with Swirl W@tch and was not disappointed.
