  Starts off a little jank but still fun, but around the midway point the jank becomes overwhelming to the point of being torturous. The worst aspects are the collision (yes, even on Dreamcast stages); the weird physics that too often almost magnetically pull you towards walls (making you go slower); the tendency of spin-dashes to break the movement that the level designer intended for certain sections, often leading to deaths; and worst of all, the bloody camera. The camera is treated like a physical object, and therefore it gets stuck on geometry all the time. The angles that are chosen for it are often not well suited for estimating depth in a 3D platformer, leading to many deaths in bottomless pits. Despite all of that, the game is single-handedly saved by the other characters' shorter stories, which are for the most part better designed, most notably Amy's and E-102's campaigns. If you're masochistic enough to do repeated playthroughs, or go for 100%-ing the game, it's a lot more tolerable, and enjoyable, once you're acclimated to the jank and know how to work around it, and time trials in Sonic games are always fun. You need to have a bit of a Stockholm syndrome thing going on to enjoy many of the games in the series. So if you only plan to play this game once, and don't plan on doing any of the extras, this game is total garbage, avoid it. This release is a bad port of a port of a port of a port. Dreamcast (original) -> Gamecube -> Windows -> Xbox 360 -> Windows again. Downgrade to the original Windows port from 2004 using the [url=https://sadxmodinstaller.unreliable.network/]SADX Mod Installer[/url], or get that release instead [i]somehow[/i] and install that on top of it. Pretty sure the 2004 port has better compatibility with Wine / Proton, too, not to mention that the Mod Installer comes with fixes for most of the issues that that port had. The differences between the Dreamcast versions and the DX ports are mostly visual, the game doesn't magically play better on a Dreamcast. If anything, the 30 FPS lock makes it considerably worse.

  The BEST 3D Sonic game!!! (Well, in my opinion, haha.) My only gripe with it is that by this point, the Steam version is a port of a port of a port, so it sucks ass if you just download and play the base game as is. /PLEASE/ download the SADX Mod Installer if you get the game off of Steam! If you do, it's /the best/ version of Sonic Adventure to date. You get the improvements of DX, such as 60fps, skippable cutscenes, and the improved Chao Garden! Dreamcast Conversion and Super character mods on top of all that makes the game perfect. I even have the link to where you can start getting the mods installed down below. It's super easy and helps fix controller issues and easy mapping once you get it all set up, too! I use an Xbox Series S/X Controller and it's smooth as butter! https://sadxmodinstaller.unreliable.network/ This game means so much to me, because I grew up with it ever since I was a literal toddler. If you've never played Sonic Adventure before, you gotta give it a shot... Open your heart!

  This game is good so far, but please install the better SADX mod, the game is barely functional otherwise, even on a capable machine.
