  When you're born Polish, life will funnel you into one of two paths: of hatred or of despair. Sensitive, artsy people tend to fall into the latter, and that's probably we have so many Polish depression simulators. Frostpunk, This War of Mine, and now this. In a nutshell - this game is Dead in Vinland infused with the essence of Frostpunk and This War of Mine. But it's also much more than that. The atmosphere, the music, the conversation topics, they're all very much in sync and varied enough to keep things interesting. Due to the way the game is designed you -must- have at least one revolutionary (aka communist) and at least one aristocratic (aka conservative old wealth) group member. The theme of the game is overcoming the tensions between the classes to survive, and eventually thrive. It's nothing mind blowing, but it's engaging from start to finish. As for the gameplay - if you're expecting a rehash of Dead in Vinland, this is not it. There is no combat, there are no skills; instead there are perks and action points. The expedition system is also interesting - weighing how much and what loot to bring versus the danger of getting lost in the taiga. The relationships between characters are also quite important, and managing people's happiness and friendship is vital. The survival aspect is pretty great. You have to manage hunger, thirst, fatigue and cold - classics - but also different injuries and illnesses, as well as indigestion or nausea (that's what you get for eating those weird mushrooms and bugs). That way the game pushes you to not rely on the barely edible moss, but actually hunt, fish and cook - and maybe even use herbs to season your dishes to increase morale. I wish more games had this kind of mechanic. (The Long Dark, are you listening? Let me rub greens into that venison!) It's an engaging ride from start to finish. After understanding the mechanics and learning the strengths and weaknesses of my survivors, I had no problem with survival whatsoever (playing on normal difficulty). I'll probably play some more with different endgame scenario and different survivor combination, but for now I'm very satisfied. Check it out! Great time.

  An interesting concept, but god knows, this game is flawed in so many ways. First of all, game designers didn't know where to stop, adding too much mechanics. The tutorial is overwhelming. But even if you figure everything out, some of them don't have much sense, narrative- or gameplay-wise. First of all, the thing with relationship between the survivors. Most of the dialogues are just don't make sense at all and totally unpredictable. Also, I don't think it matters if you a communist or a monarchist when you are freezing in the middle of Siberian taiga. I used to live north from the Arctic Circle, I know. Even in Moscow, when there's wind and frost, and you are wearing decent warm clothes, you are not going to waste your time if you are cold. And these spoiled characters are not fond of working together because they don't know each other too well or do not like one another. That's preposterous! At the same time, it doesn't look like the camp morale is actually affects something. Second, when you are making a makeshift thing, the other survivors hate you. I guess, they believe it is better to freeze to death than to make a temporary shelter when you don't have enough materials. And that's lead us to another game design flaw. You can't use different kinds of the same material to build. Let's say, you need to build a simple cover. For that, you need 8+8 wood, 12 needles and 3 structure. Sticks, branches, split wood, needles and logs provide wood. But you can't mix them. Thus, if you have 7 wood total for each of the material, you won't be able to build the cover. It is even worse with cooking. You have four mushrooms to make a soup but these mushrooms of the same type are split to 2+2 stacks because they have different expiration date and you can't cook them. The funny thing, if you exit the menu for cooking and try that again, they can be available as a stack of 4 mushrooms and this time you can use them. Another thing to mention is random, and for a strategy game it's a very big flaw. You can't make plans because everything is unpredictable. For example, you need a coal to make an upgraded water filter which is the key to survival. You can find a coal near the train, and it make sense. And usually it's there. But sometimes you can search every cell with the train (and it's 7 cells!), and there's nothing. You are screwed. You have wasted 6 out of 12 points (if you are lucky) almost for nothing. The same goes for the rest of resources. And it doesn't matter what difficulty level you are on. Even the passenger level will drive you up the wall. Upgrades of the camp are also stupid. You can make a Fence and upgrade it to get Snares and Marked Path. Snares will provide small animals you can cook. Marked Path unlocks an option of gathering brushwood. The problem is, snares can be empty for days. Even if you upgrade them for Advanced Traps to increase the chance. I needed meat to make a bear trap, and I couldn't get it for a week or so. As for Marked Path, usually you need sticks to build something useful, but characters will be bringing moss, cones, bark and other useless sh*t. Do not forget, every action uses at least 1 point out of 12. Another thing with the points. The balance is awful. You can have up to 3 points for each character. If your characters are thirsty, hungry, freezing, injured or tired, their action points will decrease, and that's a big problem. For example, to build something solo a character should use all his points, 3 out of 3. And some of them has a Lone Wolf Trait. Thus, you can build something for 3 points to get the bonus morale from the trait or spent two points total and lose a lot of morale if you are building with someone. On the top of that, some characters can have Incompetent trait, and they could fail any action, losing points for nothing. Of course, you can use characters who are getting along pretty well with each other but that's rare. Though you can improve their relationship using Fraternization at the camp. The problem is, this action requires 2 points total. Do you think you are going to waste valuable points to make friends when you are in need of resources? Also, some characters can have traits like Distrustful, Braggart or Humbug, and it is almost impossible to be friends with them, especially if there are two characters like that in your camp. The art of the game is decent but cinematics are just plain awful. That's not a big deal at all but it feels like devs didn't care at all about these things. That's an amateur level at the very best. The last but not least. I don't know about the other languages but Russian localization is horrid. For example, your character is bleeding, and the game says to dress the wound. You do that, and nothing happens. You switch to English to learn that you actually need to make a bandage to fix that, and these are two different actions, though I don't believe there's a lot of difference. To sum it up, this game feels strange but okay the first two runs. But every other try you will get irritated due to the random or the balance.

  Fortunately I bought this game in a bundle with "Dead in Vinland" which I would recommend instead. Generally I love the despair-management games, since they challenge Player's intellect and resolve. Not this one. First let's get the good parts outta way to begin with: 1. Any cultural and/or historical lore in games is good and welcome; 2. Attention to details always pays off. Character condition and clothing are visualized. 3. Trait discovery feature is authentic. Standing applause here. 4. Procedure-generated starting conditions are cool. Totally unbalanced, unfortunately. Restart-repeat. Done. That's it. Graphics is tolerable, though widescreen support is minimal. Everything's just ugly-stretched. Music is irrelevant, adding negligible immersion. Seems like a persisting placeholder everyone forgot about. Now the bad parts, right? 1. Probability — is a joke here. Descriptions provide zero clues to the Player. "Has a chance..." means what? 1% ? 99% ? 50/50 ? Whatever. When a good thing procs — the benefits are irrelevant. When a bad thing procs — it's always a disaster. Yep. Danger level "insignificant" is what now? 1% ? 17% ? 50/50. Yep. Danger level "deadly" is what now? 75% ? 99% ? 50/50. Yep. You can *easily* survive the deadly encounter, and get rekt by an insignificant one. Yep. There's no actual risk-management in this game. "Dead in Vinland" gives you a probability fork at least, so that you can project assumptions. "HWCT" is a blind gamble. Yep. 2. Interface is clunky. As an example: you WILL have to go a couple of menu's back to add fuel before cooking. ALWAYS. It's unlearnable. Yep. 3. Resources can NOT be combined. You simply can't make a mushroom soup outta mushrooms of different freshness. Deal with it. Yep. 4. The tutorial is utterly disgusting. It introduces confusion instead of clarity. Skip it outright to save your braincells. Frankly I don't believe that any game developers understood it yet. Lemme spell it: Never. Steal. My. Focus. Or. Controls. EVER! Tutorial is no excuse to do that either, ye dorks! Why-oh-why it's so hard to understand that it breaks the immersion, eh? Don't you ever play the games you create? Or is it a professional deformation? Phew. 5. Game ends when it finally starts to make sense. Needless to say, prematurely. Leaving no desire for replay, despite all the variability. Yep. -- Still, it's not a bad game. I just don't recommend it.

  Quite interesting game, but the first 2 days of survival is brutal AF. You'll need to try discover the traits of every character as much as you can in order to proceed. The morale thingy is quite annoying as it keeps drop all the time lol. Some tips to begin with: An easy way to gather food is to try max the campfire with grill + fences with snap traps For water, also max the campfire with water filter thing Could say campfire is the core item you'll need to build first Then go for shelter + quarantine zone as you need to heal yourself

  I've spent a multitude of hours on similar survival and resource management games such as Dead in Vinland and Dead in Bermuda, and this one definitely scratches the same itch. Very challenging, even on normal mode, as you will get an excellent idea of how harsh it is to survive in the Siberian wilderness after surviving a horrific train crash. I've finished one playthrough after several tries, and I'm attempting to get through even one week on difficult mode. If you're not too familiar with this type of game, I would suggest you start on easy. Some salient points: - Fairly replayable, as there are multiple character interactions and random field events - Lovely artwork, clean overall menu layout, but limited poses and animations for the characters - Interesting historical backdrop involving Russian politics during the October Revolution - Diverse cast of personalities, each with the potential to develop helpful or harmful traits, and balanced enough that you can't strongly prefer one or the other. - Dynamic relationship system that involves three parameters: trust, friendship and credit - Brutal and unforgiving events can throw a wrench into your struggling camp (e.g. terrible weather, forced amputations, poisoning) - Antagonists are represented by roaming renegades that need to be eluded - Exploration is always a gamble, due to weather, renegade patrols, dwindling resources and the increasing risk of getting lost. - Gameplay mechanics can be confusing, and you need several playthroughs to figure out how things work. Having fun so far, I'd say it's great value if you appreciate these types of games.

  I wish I liked this game more than I did, the story and aesthetics were really nice, but the mechanics get really old after a while. First, very few item descriptions and every fucking condition has it's own means of curing it that you won't figure out without wasting resources and/or restarting the game. Party getting frostbite, and you try to have them rest in a double shelter with blankets? No, you loser! you need that one specific infirmary upgrade to make warm crompresses to cure the frostbite. You'll probably figure it out after your playthrough collapses. After 6 hours I still don't know how to get characters body temperature up. Rest, campfire and warm clothes sure as hell don't seem to do it. Also, it's one of those colony if idiots games, where in a harsh, hostile environment random characters will just wander alone into the wilderness on day 3 because they don't like the fellow survivor they were 'forced' to build a campfire with. This feels like a traditional Russian game made by software engineers instead of designers, just pile on mechanics, and make the game as hostile and convoluted as possible. The actual gameplay is in figuring the game itself out instead of playing the game.

  There really isn't much here, despite other reviews. There is very little feedback as to certain mechanics. For example, camp morale was completely empty due to a couple decisions I made at the beginning of a run, and at the end it was completely full, and I saw no difference mechanically. Same for trust, friendship, etc. They're just bars that have a chance to give you a benefit if they're full enough, but other than that seem to do little. If they do have an impact, it's so poorly communicated I wasn't able to tell the difference. There is almost no animation. Even moving characters to a task keeps them in the same position, just shifting them wherever you want. Just feels lazy that they don't even stand up. The UI is also not very intuitive. You end up having to click across the item bar to get to the items you want, and you'll have to do this multiple times to feed, drink, bandage, etc. Often times event dialogue will reference characters by name, and unless you've done a good job committing faces to names, you have no indication of who you're sending to do what. The dialogue is very poorly translated. It's a struggle to understand what the characters are trying to convey sometimes. Near the end of a playthrough one character mentions a child and another character says "COULD IT BE, X???" and up until this point I had no indication of who X was or their relation to any of the characters. Much of the character dialogue is like this, it has a strange tone to it that makes it sound...very much like written characters and less like actual people. There is also very little choice, which unfortunately is somewhat typical of games in this genre. A lot of the time your events are "Choose between A and B". One is good and the other is bad. That's it. I saw maybe 2 other choices that had more options. So, overall between everything I just found the game underwhelming, especially finishing a playthrough and a half in just short of 4 hours.

  As a fan of Dead in Vinland, I really really was expecting this game, even before it was released. But sadly, I can't recommend it in the actual state. There are some things that need to be improved (for example clarity in how many action points the things you can unlock cost) or other things, but the thing that really made me quit this game is how unfair it is with death. I like having my character die because of hunger, because an unlucky encounter maybe in which I had some kind of control, maybe one. But today I lost 2 characters on an expedition just because I ambushed a bandit without shooting him (he was sleeping). So the misleading option "kill the man while he is sleeping" turned suddenly in insta-death of two of my characters. Ok then I will keep going with the other 2. Then I go to an expedition with these 2 I have left, I equip the rifle and the bullet. I encounter another soldier, I think "I have a weapon now; I can use it this time if things get badly" And I get an event in which I pursuit this soldier and then insta-death again with not a single possibility of surviving. So, insta death on expeditions events. That's no fun it's rng ruining the experience completely

  [i]Help WIll Come Tomorrow[/i] is a roguelite resource manager that has a lot of flaws, but somehow engufed me so much I'm currently storming the hardest difficulty—a thing I rarely do in games. As a group of survivors in ~1917 Russia you must navigate your way through multiple stats, negative statuses, and ideological differences, while unlocking events, character backstories and traits that help or harm your situation. The biggest flaws of this game are RNG and negative feedback loops. A single unfortunate event or wrong choice can end your run—or harm it so much it might as well have ended it. While the former is frustrating but typical for roguelites, the latter is exacerbated by the second flaw. See, the systems of this game are interlocked in such a way that losing only makes you lose more: the more negative statuses characters have, the less actions they get, and less actions mean less chances to fix your situation. When a negative condition becomes too strong, a character can downright faint and rob you of any chance to use them... Once again, each of these traits would be fine on its own, but together they create a system that makes it pointless to try and salvage a run if, say, two characters are gone or someone fumbles a crucial action early on. The dialogue is very cool thematically, but functional rather than well-written. The music and visuals are great. Ans yet, despite the flaws, [i]Help WIll Come Tomorrow[/i] drew me in. Perhaps the number of items and systems is [i]just right[/i] so as not to be overwhelming. Perhaps the theme is doing it for me. Perhaps the characters—vivid and well-executed stereotypes—are smart enough with their ideological talks and dark secrets that I'm curious to learn more. I think this game will benefit greatly from additional patching and balancing—patch 1.0.1 already added the much-needed Mushroom Soup and explained some mechanics better. Good luck to the developer in perfecting their game; I'll keep an eye on it (and try to make a Hard run). P.S. Don't be mistaken in thinking this is a clever narrative-driven game. While the bits of narrative it has are interwoven well into the gameplay and the characters are vivid, it's a resource manager first and foremost, not biting commentary on the Russian Revolution.
