So much promise, but it's an unfinished game that lacks direction. I want to love it. Definitely do not purchase. The game is incomplete and development is dead.

On the off chance anyone's still seeing this, it's been abandoned for over 2 years. I'm not holding it against the developer. A small-scale indie gig is basically volunteer work unless you get real lucky. But if you're looking for something similar (and active), I recommend Necesse instead. It's very similar and further along.

Edit, Sept, 2017 - Game has been abandoned by the devs, FEELSBADMAN. This had so much promise too. Do not recommend anymore :( Left review up for posteriority. NOTE: THE SCREENSHOTS ON THE STORE PAGE ARE NOT AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF THE GAME, AS OF V. 0.9.4, WHICH I HAVE BEEN PLAYING ON. (Currently V. 0.9.6, still recommending.) It's like a top-down Terraria, which is fantastic. This means there isn't platforming, but rather strafing (M+KB), but apart from that much of the gameplay is similar. I will add here that the sprite work is WAY better than Terraria's and though you get less customization overall (1 helm slot, 1 armor slot, 3 accessory slots), I expect this to change as the game develops. The farming in this game is absolutely fantastic and mesmerizing, easy to pick up and satisfying to do (also super quick, though I expect this to be tweaked later; currently it's way too easy to just farm up a few hundred loaves of bread and solve your hunger forever). This is a criminally overlooked game, probably because in-game there's no guidance whatsoever (might change but I hope it doesn't; discovery is great in it as it is currently). Pros: - Simple and easy controls, mechanics - Visually beautiful - I expect there to be more variety as the game develops as well - Familiar gameplay progression (build X to build Y, which lets you build Z, etc.) - Farming is satisfying and rewarding (best foods through farming AFAIK) - Exploration is satisfying and rewarding (required to get forging materials, early on you get some good stuff through just walking around) - You can raise your own pigs/sheep/chicken, something that is often overlooked in many games like this. Unlike Minecraft where you had to gimmick rooms to spawn cows/sheep/whatever before, ranching is built into the game here. - Auto-detect nearby crafting stations so you're not always switching back and forth for a single item. Bunch up your related crafting stations. - A lot to do in-game despite early access Cons (NOTE: The game is EA when I write this review, I expect most of these to be solved on launch because they are quite significant IMO) - No multiplayer yet. I would be very sad if the game finished without multiplayer, this seems like a REALLY fun MP game. - Hunger rate needs reworking IMO, currently it drops a bit too fast so you're forced to spend a lot of time foraging until you build a farm, after which your hunger issues go from "urgent" to "non-existant" really fast - (Saves lag my PC for unknown reasons) < Fixed in 0.9.5 - No way to make multiple items at once (shiftclick, ctrlclick, hold click, etc.); really annoying when you have 1000 logs and need to turn half of those into sticks. - (No way to split stacks of items, gotta move them wholesale.) < Fixed in 0.9.5 - Item organization button would be extremely useful tbh, it's annoying to manually have to move items every time you craft something. - Monster variety could probably be expanded a bit. - Updates are slow. AFAIK the team is super small so don't expect this to fully release any time soon. The game is definitely playable but not finished. Also under cons, but more bug-related: - Items never disappear from the map (they just blink forever) - You can activate doors and refill troughs from across the screen, not sure why this happens Overall, for an EA game it's surprisingly well polished and I'm really looking forward to release. Honest 9/10 if you don't count the mildly annoying bugs that come with the game not being finished.

Forsaken Isle is a sandbox crafting game where you start with nothing and advance by crafting more powerful tools and weapons (wood to stone to copper, etc) while exploring the region and fighting monsters. Although it is Early Access, it is very stable and fun, but could use a bit more polish. I'm still having a lot of fun crafting items and designing my home base, however. PROS + Simple, effective controls make gathering items and fighting monsters a breeze + Large overworld with multiple biomes and underground cave systems to explore + Building house/farm/base is easy and fun + Progressive crafting and hunger systems encourage exploration + Charming graphics CONS - Experimenting to find recipes is fun and rewarding at first, but quickly grows very frustrating - No tutorial, quests, or instructions makes the initial hour of the game seem a bit daunting - Dragging items from inventory to storage or crafting window sucks (needs a "Shift-Click to move" setting BADLY) - No storyline or quests makes it seem a little lifeless - Minimal sound effects and virtually no music

Amazing game, just what I was looking for BUT I really wish it would get updated more often. Looking at past updates it seems like it only gets update once every few months. Also, being so close to 1.0 (its already at 0.9.4) it really doesn't appear to have enough content. It becomes quite boring and repetitive after a few hours. Additions I would like to see: -portable light system -more cooking recipes ( a lot more) -more armor/clothes variants -more enemy variants -different types of fishing poles and bows -fish that are specific to certain areas (underground and swamp) -more magic items -possibly a small hidden village for bartering -actually have to grow food for animals instead of just clicking trough This game has so so so so much potential and I really hope the dev(s) take full advantage of it. With just a bit more work this could easily be a indie goty and worth $10-$15.

The game is almost like a 2d, top-down minecraft splashed with some Terraria. The gameplay is pretty soild though there is a bit of a learning curve. It's not difficult, but it's a good idea to keep in mind that you'll probably want to start a new character at least once after you get the hang of how the game works. They switched up the graphics compared to the screenshots, there's an actual clock in the top center of the screen which is pretty nice. There is one thing that is pretty annoying though: Occasionally at dawn or dusk the game will crash. Not a clue why. But the game's autosave does a nice job and you literally can pick up exactly where it crashed. Thus far I have not lost anything due to this random crash. Just an annoyance at this point. But it is still in early access, thus for what it is, I would recommend.

Edit 11/3/2016: Last update was mid-summer 2016. The dev responds vaguely to forum questions but any early access title with tons of posts asking if the game is dead or abandonded is probably a suggestion that things aren't going very well. A lot of promises are still being made, NPCs, multiple islands, but the game still feels so much like one of the hundreds of mobile apps out there and not like a true PC game. So. Beware. I buy all these sandboxy games because I figure one or two in the pile might rise above mediocrity. To no surprise, it seems this game has stunted somewhere, as the last update brought what would normally be considered regular changes to a growing project's fundamentals- and it seemed as if the developer wanted people to fawn over it- when all you see now are comments about how that so-called "update" broke the game for like, 75% of players. Having "Free updates" as a Key Feature in a game that is in Early Access is a HUGE red flag, if you're into "waiting to buy" like a normal person without the same hatred for your own sanity like all of us early access torture junkies. I could be wrong and it could just be a financial hurdle they're attempting to jump. A bit of a shout-out would be nice, instead of a near-mute changelog and very little in the way of mapping out how this game is supposed to progress into a full release. I don't imagine this one exiting early access without a band-aid and a wipe of it's forums. Who knows, it could see it's potential someday, because it does have the basics ready to go. One thing that bothers me is the fact that I've asked around and nobody seems to know whether or not this game is related to a game (not naming it here) on the Play Store that has a similar title and almost identical assets. The Android thumbnail used to be the icon used by this game in the Steam browser. The game on Play has a slightly different premise, but most telling of all, is that it's release date is close to Forsaken Isle's, and it has, since December 2015, had a "50% Sale" banner slapped on it. I might be stretching here, as I've been known for simply being out of my gourd sometimes, but I think there has to be at least a slight case of fair use abuse going on. Anyway. At the price it is now, you'll probably spend more time with it than I did, you might even love the heck out of it. To me, $8 is well under my expectation threshold for Steam these days. There is a game here, it can be played and replayed thanks to a fairly well-designed map generator. Just don't go expecting it to win any awards for leaving Early Access in style.

I love this game, it's so simple and at 1st I didn't like it but once I played it again I started to really love it. I love this type of games and the details are so insanely cute <3 The game doesn't have too many things going on, not too much content at the moment but I hope after it comes out they will be adding more and more stuff and also, hopefully *fingerscrossed* make it co-op or something, or like minecraft, visit your friends world, because it would be so amazing :D

Pretty sure the dev's have given up on the project and just plan on collecting money until the game just falls into the blackhole that is the steam store. I do not reccomend this game until the devs return and start updating it again. I'll review again when the game goes further.
