  Odd that this dlc is listed as a consumable dlc, as it is not similar to an mmo type consumable, rather this dlc is an add-on. Of course this circumvents the refund policy, which is not kosher.

  I'd recommend, so long as you have reaslitic expectations. Encounters adds a new ship, its not spectacularly different (another medium fighter) but its a slightly new experience. New few new weapons and equipment, nothing so far seams to offer a massively new way to play (the new ship is not as different as playing the scout or gunship for instance) but some added variety is always good. Where the expansion does well is the new encounters (hence the name!) you run into. It adds new NPC encounters, which are nice, with quests across sectors which spice up runs, the scanning ones could be clearer to find but its a nice change of pace and variety. Other encounters like activate the power points to power up a station are a good addition. And a few new enemies. For the price its a reasonable addition to the game, but dont expect anything revolutionary here, its an interation on the base game, and given how good everspace is thats not a bad thing. If you like how Everspace plays (and I do) then the expansion adds some new features and extends playability a bit. But dont expect new game modes, or anything like that, fundamentally its everspace with a bit more content added in, not new features. Edit - some changes to better reflect my meaning due to comments on this review.

  More things to do in the game is always welcome. I enjoy having more interaction with people in the game, the new gear and weapons are very cool too.

  A fantastic DLC on an already brilliant game, [h1]EVERSPACE™ - Encounters[/h1] expands on the universe of Everspace with lots of well crafted content which has certainly rekindled my flame into replaying the game. Encounters adds a new ship to your hangar, the [b]Colonial Sentinel[/b] which has its own unique playstyle. The ship has a much higher capacity shield at the cost of slower regeneration and also features a brand new arsenal of weaponry, some of them are also available to the already existing ships. Furthermore, the game adds many new weapons, blueprints, consumables, modules and a few new types of enemies so you better be on your toes the next time you venture into outer space. One of the better additions to the game is the five new NPCs you will meet throughout your voyages, each one with a their own quest line: [table] [tr] [th]Name[/th] [th]Description[/th] [/tr] [tr] [td]Tareen[/td] [td]An Okkar (!) who gives you tasks to provide him with resources and craftable items[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Maurice[/td] [td]A robot with a french accent who gives you bounties for known criminals[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Mester Throng[/td] [td]An amphibian astrobiologist with an interest in studying various life forms[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Elek[/td] [td]A furry pilot who has plans for his own band of outlaws[/td] [/tr] [tr] [td]Karlie[/td] [td]A mysterious female human with an even more mysterious agenda[/td] [/tr] [/table] These NPCs have really nice unique personalities and I have to give props for the well done voice acting which exceeded my expectations. The DLC also features wormhole trips to the Okkar homeworlds but you better be prepared for a tough fight ahead since the Okkar fleet will be waiting for you. It is really rewarding when you destroy their corvettes/frigates and get all that sweet salvage and loot; that is if you're up for the task... There's also the new G&B stations in which you can upgrade your ship for that specific run, by increasing your weapon firepower for a set amount of time or adding more drone max capacity and many more. In these big stations you can also refine your existing resources into other ones you might need and repair your ship. Also there's a new unique resource in the form of Viridian Energy which Mester Throng can use to improve your ship for that run as well and even remove/recraft mods for your weapons or a weapon itself. With a very sensible price of €10 (where other games charge twice as much for half the content), EVERSPACE™ - Encounters is a highly recommended addition to Everspace itself. There's plenty of content to explore, new playstyles to be mastered, new achievements and a good amount of fun and exploration. If you're like me and loved Everspace, then this DLC is not to be missed. And since Rockfish mention that it's their first, I hope we get more of the same quality as this one in the not so distant future.

  This DLC adds the most important thing to this game , life , if you still haven't purchased this game in general then i highly advise you to buy the full bundle that includes this DLC along the way.

  I got this with the 20 dollar sale package, and it's definitely something I wouldn't live without. Looking back and seeing what features would be missing if I didn't pick this up with the base game, I'm honestly surprised. Pick this up, it's definitely a great addition.

  A great upgrade! OK. The game is an arcade space shooter rogue-lite. Don't expect huge additions to the serviceable story here... But the changes to the mechanics that the Sentinel brings, as well as the different armanent possibilities due to this update makes this a worthwhile expansion. The boons of each quest branch in the DLC makes a typical run that much more varied. For me, I'm happy going to the Okkar homeworld to pick fights. Bet they didn't figure a shieldless scout can do that much damage to an Okkar armada, did they..... (cue Admiral Akbar: "It's a trap!") Oh yeah. All the enhancements have the potential to make you ludicrously overpowered... provided you are willing to experiment. Great fun.

  Remember back in the day, when you bought an expansion pack for a game? It cost you, like, what, fifteen or twenty bucks and you basically got enough new content for a completely new game out of it. These days, you might be lucky to get two or three extra missions and a cosmetic pack for that price tag. Well, not so here. Encounters is HUGE, adding tons of goodies for its price and enhancing the game to the point where I'm amazed I was even capable of playing the game without it. FEATURES: - NEW SHIP: Sure, you could defeat your enemies with boring things like "guns" or "missiles", but wouldn't you rather lay waste to your foes with the almighty power of SCIENCE?!? The Sentinel has you covered! - QUESTS AND NPCS: Encounters adds a bunch of lazy good-for-nothing blackguards who will pay you handsomely to do all the things that they are too lazy to do. I won't spoil too much, but the writing and VA for these guys is actually pretty good, and it really helps bring life to the galaxy. Coalition for life! - ANGRY SPACE ANIMALS: Speaking of bringing life to the galaxy, Encounters also adds a bunch of bizarre space creatures that you can scan, harvest, and in some cases, weaponise! Weird scrap anemones! Worms that live in ice asteroids! Angry clouds of soul-devouring nanobots! Its ridiculous the stuff they got out here in space! - HOLY CRAP THATS A LOT OF NEW ITEMS: Gear for days! There's a ridiculous number of new goodies in here! Want to spam homing missiles in every cardinal direction like an unholy fusion of Macross and the Alpha-Class Star Wing? Done! Want to shoot balls of sentient hull-devouring explosive green goop at your foes? Got ya! Make your ship shoot lightning bolts like a sith lord? Check! Flamethrower in space? WHO SAID IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE?! - NEW UPGRADES AND STUFF: G&B have stepped their game up and installed some sweet upgrade stations that can hand out some sweet bonuses for you during your run. Of course, they ain't doing it for free, and you have to turn all the generators on first, but ain't nothing good in this life (or the next) that you didn't have to work for. - SKINS!: And it comes with a cosmetic pack! Because the only thing better than laying waste to your foes with the power of SCIENCE is doing it with cool pictures of skulls all over your spaceship. So yeah. If you have Everspace already, buy it. It's that good.

  I recommend buying Encounters, if you've already played the core game, and enjoyed it. But I do have to say, I don't suggest buying it with Everspace as a first-time player. The reason is that Encounters doesn't really change Everspace. The core game is basically the same, with just a few new items and a new ship to play with. But none of that turns Everspace into anything beyond what it already was, or fixes anything that was wrong with the core game. It just gives you a bunch of new reasons to do more runs - acquiring resources for Tareen, searching for rare lifeform specimens for Throng, hunting criminals for Maurice, being hired muscle for Elek, and helping Karlie...well, do what Karlie does. With some painfully slow and poorly voice-acted (and often poorly reasoned) dialogue scenes to explain it all. So if you liked Everspace, you'll like having new reasons to send Adam out one more, two more, twenty-seven more times. But if you are just buying Everspace and wondering if you should grab this in a bundle, you're gambling the extra money on something that isn't going to make it more likely you'll enjoy Everspace in the first place. Better to buy Everspace, see if you like it, and then wait for Encounters to come on sale.

  The problem is the game lacks variety (unless you want to pay for more). The additional content makes the experience way better. It adds several new layers to the randomly generated levels, a new ship and gameplay mechanics, making the experience a lot more immersive and less repetitive. but obviously you have to pay for it. I want to recommend it because I like the game with all of its content but supporting this buisness policy will lead to more unpolished games with hidden, later costs which are required to fully enjoy the game.
