  There are very few Touhou fangames that mean so much to me that I would buy them again just to honour their localization to Steam and the west. Tenjou no Tempest is one of them. It's an exquisite, furious action game. The attacks you use feel extremely impactful and the lighting effects are beautiful. Production value is very high for a fangame and the screen-filling bullet patterns during bosses create a level of grandeur without being unfair. The central game mechanic is weather effects. Dodging shortly before an enemy attack connects makes the foe prone to a sword strike. When landed, you receive a weather effect that comes with a buff. The exact workings of it depends on the type of enemy that attacked you. The English translation helps a lot here when it comes to deciding which buffs you want and how to utilize their various effects. Some are even used to solve crafty little weather puzzles, like putting out fires. There's also a shop to unlock new attacks in exchange for score, adding a system of growth and experimentation. That makes the gameplay even deeper and more involving on top of everything else. Entry difficulty is moderate. While the playtime of story mode is relatively short with about 3 hours for your first playthrough, there is a Lunatic Boss Rush you can unlock that will probably take you ages to complete. That one is exceptionally difficult and meant for perfectionists.

  This game is really fun and hard at the same time, I guess I will list the pros and cons: PROS: Good Graphics Good Story Amazing Artwork Provides a true challenge Amazing Spellcards Requires a smart mind to beat certain parts Challenge mode if you beat game Unique shot types as well as C-C-Combo sets! Inspires play styles for a variety of new players Translated for English Players Don't require a strong computer to play the game Requires a lot of timing and skill to get stuff done Cons: Everyone is wearing PADS Unless you played Touhou Luna Nights, it will take you some time to get used to controls Overall, I highly suggest buying this game if you are reading this, no seriously, go buy the game, it is fun, challenging, and enraging, also contains a nice boat :D Also, Lunatic Mode makes the game a rage/love scenario

  Superb 2D platformer with Touhou's signature bullet hell element. This game is quite pacey as you dodge just in time you can "see through" enemies weaknesses and do burst damage. On top of that, defeating different enemies with the heaven sword after seeing through them, you could gain buffs and benefits. Platforming require players to do precise control and make good use of the seeing through system. The mechanism is really well-thought-out. You can change fighting styles (Joy ,Ire, Woe, Ease) depends on circumstances.. You can customise each style with multiple options for projectiles and ults which suit you best. Boss fights are intensive because bosses change in every phase. You need to observe the characteristics of every phase as opponents' fighting styles might change drastically! Not just playing skillfully but also smartly. This games strikes a perfect balance between melee combat and bullet hell. They're equally important here. If you like both, this game is a must!! Leveling is decent, there are multiple ways to get to the goals. It really depends on the play style. but I don't like Chapter 5 as the whole level is filled up by "the magic balls". Variety on enemy design is truly lacking. Everything else is great.

  Very fun game, albeit quite short. My blind playthrough took me the three hours of game time I have on it. The music is good, and the bosses are fun. The weather manipulation mechanic is neat, but most of the weather options serve no purpose. Same with the moves, lots of options, but many aren't very useful. Overall, great if you're a fan of the Touhou series, solid 7/10

  This is a really, really nice adventure platformer with a very nice unique action twist to the mechanics. Your player character, Tenshi, has a number of shot types at her disposable for ranged attacks but the real beauty comes in with the Sword of Hisou and the dodge mechanics. Perfectly timed evasion leaves your opponent open to an improved sword strike which activates certain Weather Manifestation effects, depending on what you attack. These effects are used to improve your abilities and also used to traverse some of the more dangerous areas that you will encounter on your journey to find the cause of the mysterious earthquakes that are endangering the earth. I played this for around 6 hours, though my clear file said around 3. There's a nice challenging boss rush mode after completion of the game which sees you facing the bosses from the main game in sequence with no retries - very fun. Boss fights in this game are where all the player abilities truly shine, with a solid mixture of bullet hell mechanics and melee combat. I personally was reminded of Summon Night Swordcraft Story for the GBA a few times while I was playing some of these boss fights. Very enjoyable game overall, I can recommend that you play this. It's worth every penny.
