  I don't hate the game, it has interesting points and I like most of the music tracks and a fair bit of the dialogue. The imagery looks basically AI-generated but sometimes it's a vibe. There's a weird slant towards rightwing memes that only appears right near the end and it seems out of place, but the creators are weebs so I guess it makes sense. I don't love the only real character being a waifu, but again the creators are weebs so what else could I expect? And you could have made it a thousand times grosser than it was. I'm personally surprised that none of the other Muses appeared and Mel's specific domain never seemed to really matter. Also it just kind of sucks as a game. The guessing game of dialogue is fine, though half the time it doesn't even change the response you get, let alone have a real impact, but the fights themselves are basically a complete afterthought. There is nearly no strategy and the moves are all incredibly generic. It should be one of the top priorities of a game like this to at least be a little evocative in its writing for the moves and such even if the system is shallow. Look at OFF, it's deeper but still not massively so, but it gets a ton of mileage out of the fact that you aren't casting fireballs and frost but "Gaussian Blur," "Surreal Tragedy," and "Massive Aneurysm," even if half the time it's just damage numbers. You almost half got it with so many of the characters attacking by just saying weird dialogue, but the player doesn't have anything like that. You can phone it in like heck (like you did on some of the dialogue) and it'd still feel much better than it does now. Or make a better battle system, but that's a much different skill from what you've demonstrated. Also, maybe log off more.

  a funny yet dissociation-inducing journey of quirky internet humor, horrifying eye imagery laced with morse code, droning tunes chopped with decades-old vocal samples, and bizarre visuals that shine like old internet and LSD dream emulator. followed by one of the nine muses, climb your way up a tower where each floor becomes more deconstructed than the last. the story is vague, something something nirvana, something something samsara. the importance and potential philosophy of it can become lost in the witty comments about the bone zone and the vague images of a man-fish wearing a "women want me fish fear me" hat. but it's supposed to be bizarre. you're climbing, because everyone climbs the tower. i'm not a fan of dungeon crawlers, and yet i managed to sit through this one, even if i had to go on my phone during some battles too lengthy for me to care. sound effects during spells would have been nice, or maybe battle music separate from the world music. there wasn't a lot of variety in the fights: often times, even without power-ups, my fighting attacks were stronger than my spells, so what was the point? i didn't much love the fighting, but the interactions otherwise an exploration of the floors of this tower were incredible.

  Initially submitted to the LSDJAM 2020, disillusion is a nostalgic dungeon crawler seemingly developed with RPG Game Maker's plugin FPLE, which, in fact, acts as the game's backbone, letting the player explore maps in what seems like a fake 3d environment, where the only permitted moves are 90° camera rotation and basic physical movements (Your average WASD without diagonals). On a more technical note, the combat system isn't particularly shining, and doesn't effectively challenge the player, remaining along the lines of your average RPG Game Maker's product, except, from what I've seen, the lack of a health bar for the enemy you're fighting. The difficulty, similarly, seems to remain linear through the whole game, guaranteeing both greater loot from fights and harder bosses. Yet, the technical sector isn't where this game excels: If you're longing for a product that can satisfy the delusion you gained from the release of the RPG game dedicated to "the rising of the shield hero", then, be assured, this isn't really the place to look after. What makes this game excel is, in fact, the ambience. Personally, I felt this game to a more intimate level than LSD Dream Simulator: A constant social and cultural critique with a weirdly funny overtone and references to the Buddhist and ancient Hellenic (greek) culture, particularly with the figure of Mel's. The endings, and more generally the plot, could look a bit bland at first sight, and could have been better fleshed out, even though one of the foundamental aspect of this opera is the dullness itself, occasionally interrupted by some lowly anticipated plot twist. Now, the aesthetic side of the play (forgive me this term) is one of the most subjective aspects to discute: There is an oblivious, tendious repetiveness of the assets, where the art itself becomes a leitmotif for understanding both the game and the significance behind it. Still, on a more crititical note, the sprites are obliviously too recycled, and the BGM (Background Music) is too brief considering the lenght of the whole game. Overall, I would objectively consider this a good experience, especially considering the game's price (2,39€ when I bought it). I would consider this more like a teatrical play than a fully fledged game: To absolutely buy if you want to play something that embodies the characteristics that made LSD Dream Simulator famous on the net. On a personal note, I loved this game!

  I don't like the combat, but something about this game compels me to explore it just as something compels Golem, the game's character, to climb the tower. Disillusion also gives me some Ena vibes but in a melancholy way.
