Combat Mission Shock Force 2 遊戲特點

The latest title in the famous Combat Mission franchise of wargames, now on Steam. Shock Force 2 brings you to a hypothetical conflict in Syria between the forces of NATO and the Syrian Army.

Take command of US Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (SBCT) and Heavy Brigade Combat Teams (HBCT) to fight against Syrian Army Infantry, Mechanized and Armored units in an arid setting. Experience the full range of modern threats to conventional military forces, including irregular combat forces, terrorists, spies, suicide bombers, IED's and other deadly tools employed in the asymmetric warfare of the modern day. Play the Task Force Thunder campaign, more than a dozen carefully crafted battles, or unlimited Quick Battles.

HOW THE GAME IS PLAYED

Players are assigned detailed missions to accomplish based on a richly diverse set of Objectives. Missions can be played in either Real Time or our WeGo hybrid turn based mode introduced with the first Combat Mission game 20 years ago. WeGo allows each player to plan out 60 seconds of combat and then watch as both sides' commands are carried out simultaneously. The WeGo system also allows for re-watching turn action and playing against another player by email (PBEM) or "hotseat" on a single computer. RealTime and WeGo head to head play can also use TCP/IP on a LAN or over the Internet. Massive replayability comes from a unique Quick Battle system which allows players to purchase their own custom force and fight over the battlefield of their choice from a wide array of different maps. A powerful map and scenario Editor allows you to create battles or campaigns for yourself and others.

HOW UNITS ARE PORTRAYED

All units are portrayed one for one in 1:1 scale in high resolution polygon 3D models with articulated suspensions, animated hatches, and other features that make them feel real. Unlike other 3D tactical wargames, Combat Mission combines real world physics with a thoroughly researched portrayal of forces, right down to what the individual soldiers cary into battle. Advanced vehicle damage modeling allows for tracking of each sub-system, including the most realistic ballistics, armor and post-armor effects available in any game. Unlike other games that claim this level of realism, Combat Mission actually delivers it across the whole spectrum of warfare, including the interaction of weather, lighting, and terrain on how units and their weapons function.

Perhaps the most important feature of Combat Mission is its detailed and innovative portrayal of "soft factors". Experience, Morale, Leadership, and other elements operate at the individual soldier level and collectively transform how units behave. As important as these battlefield concerns are, most other games give them short shrift or don't bother covering them at all. In the real world having the best weapons means nothing if the soldiers crewing them are balled up in fear or are too distracted to see what's going on around them.

HOW THINGS WORK BEHIND THE SCENES

Weapon penetration values and armor protection are based on extremely detailed real life data and scientific algorithms that are specific to exactly what is seen in the game. There are no arbitrary values (hitpoints) or precalculated resolution tables (CRTs) that so often produce frustratingly inaccurate results. The advanced Tactical AI (TacAI) models the psychological state and inherent qualities of every soldier on the battlefield, allowing for genuine battlefield behavior from every soldier as if they were their own free thinking individual.

The simulation of independent soldiers is important in another regard because it allows Combat Mission to have what we call Relative Spotting. This is a system which ensures that each soldier has their own unique view of the battlefield, avoiding the "Borg" issue seen in many games where once one person has spotted an enemy, automatically everyone else has spotted it and can fire on it as well. Any wargamer worth his weight in gunpowder knows that Fog of War is one of the most important battlefield elements. An unprecedented simulation of Command and Control (C2) combines with Relative Spotting to realistically portray the flow of information and responsibility between soldiers as they share information with each other on what they can see on the battlefield

All of these elements, and many more, seamlessly fit together to create the most realistic battlefield experience out there. The realism level isn't pushed in your face with lots of data and obscure references. Instead players experience all of this with the 3D graphical environment. Combat Mission's visceral game environment is what attracts players, the richness of the gameplay is what keeps them playing for years on end.

Features:

- Tactical warfare at battalion and below scale in a true 3D environment

- Command individual vehicles, teams, and squads

- Expansive simulation of "soft factors" such as Morale, Experience, and Leadership

- Innovative systems portraying Fog of War, Spotting, Line of Sight, Command & Control, and Objectives

- Unmatched realistic physics, ballistics, and battlefield effects

- Fight in a wide range of weather and lighting conditions, all of which realistically impact fighting abilities

- Unique hybrid system for RealTime or WeGo (turn based) play

- Full featured Editor for maps, scenarios, and campaigns

- Quick Battle system sets up deliberate or randomized battles based on player specifications

- Single player and head to head play, including Play By Email (PBEM)

- Detailed and realistic combat formation for the United States Army and Syrian Army

- Two types of Syrian Unconventional Forces, Spies, IEDs, and VIEDs

- One large campaign, a small training campaign, 20 standalone scenarios, and numerous Quick Battle maps.

- On map mortars, mortar vehicles, drones, anti-aircraft fire, and other modern warfare features

- Expanded arid combat environment, now including waterways, bridges, and other new terrain

- Intricately detailed and highly realistic combat equipment for the United States Army and Syrian Army, including 41 vehicles and 35 assorted small arms and crew weapons.

- Expansive maps with 1m x 1m resolution allow for short and long range action across complex terrain

- Buildings have explicitly simulated doors, windows, and floors

- Weather and ground condition modelling systems allow for everything from dry sunny days to muddy stormy nights, with visibility and mobility dynamically affected by the conditions. Some Combat Mission games include the full range of Winter, Spring, and Fall weather as well

- Line of Sight and Line of Fire are separately calculated, which means sometimes you can see something you can't shoot and sometimes you can shoot at things you can't see

- Soldier posture (prone, kneeling, standing) affects everything including spotting, cover, and ability to engage enemies

- Line of Sight is calculated from the "eyeballs" or "sensor" point, not a generic value

- Much of Combat Mission's realism comes from correctly simulating important low level details, such as crew responsibilities, vehicle vision blocks, high tech sensors, etc. A 3 man tank with a few cloudy vision blocks doesn't have to be artificially made inferior to a 5 man tank with a commander's cupola and separate vision blocks for the gunner and loader because in Combat Mission it happens naturally

- The way a nation organizes its units has a huge impact on how they perform in combat, therefore great pains are taken to accurately portray formations as they are in real life for a particular point in time

- Lighting affects combat in no small way in real life as well as in the game. The correct lighting conditions are simulated based on time of day, time of year, and weather

Glad to see Combat Mission Shock Force 2 made it to Steam. This is a favorite RTS game of mine years ago. The only negative I have about the game is current price and outdated video settings. I feel it is way overpriced for the graphic settings and textures offered in the current release. They are asking $104.97 for the base game including DLC that has outdated graphic options that have already been surpassed by today's gaming systems. If you are going to demand such a high price at least put some effort in updating the game settings and textures to match today's gaming systems. For comparison, you can get updated classics like Age of Empires Definitive Edition, etc. that support up to 4k Monitors for $19.99. There appears to be No effort made on Developers part to update the game settings to match today's systems. It appears to be released as is. The only Video Resolution options currently available are: Desktop, 1024 x 768, 1152 x 864, 1280 x 960 There are 88 missions total with all DLC packs. You get a decent amount of missions if you purchase all the DLC at $34.99 a pop. There is No Steam Workshop to mod, add missions, or update game through Steam. $59.99 for base game and $34.99 for DLC?! I don't mind paying for a product if I see the developer has gone above and beyond to provide support for the product. But, when you leave out basic updates like Screen Resolution settings that shows lack of effort.

Excellent game mechanics, accuracy, and gameplay... BUT my god. Every single game costing $60 plus even more for DLCs? These guys need to cool it with the price. Id love to buy several more, but I cannot justify $60 for a new game thats the same engine and mechanics, with new maps and skins. Cmon devs, give us some half price deals. Also I have a i910900k, RTX 3090, and 32GB of ram, and if the battle gets beyond 1000 troops or theres a large amount of fire support coming in, ill drop down to 20fps. You can't be charging this much for a game that wasn't even optimized in 2014.

For any of those who are on the fence about buying the game; the developer's have released a demo for their game that can be downloaded from their website for free: https://community.battlefront.com/topic/133389-cmsf2-demos-released/ And for any newcomers please take some time to watch these tutorial videos created by Usually Hapless: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLYvL90uFbwhOsyXZJ0wWuRdqLWIv1Bj6e Doing so will save you a lot of time, frustration, and confusion.

tl;dr summary: Despite the jank and the decrepit engine, Combat Mission Shockforce 2 is the best military simulation of Battalion level and lower, with only Graviteam Tactics series coming close. Combat Mission Shockforce 2 says on the storepage it released in August of 2020. In reality, it’s part of a long running series with a dedicated fanbase that started all the way back in the year 2000 with many entries in the series, expansions packs and modules. For years, the developers of the game at Battlefront chose to sell the games exclusively through their own website (and were one of the early adopters of digital distribution) and refused to come onto steam until they entered a publishing deal with Slitherine Ltd. A prolific publisher of niche wargames who offered to help BF market their games on Steam. The first title to make it over was Shock Force 2….a game released on steam in 2020 but originally released in 2018 and was a remaster of the original Shock Force released in 2007! I’ll eventually review all the CM games that come to Steam but the following link details my opinions of the game engine (Called CMx2), which is shared across all the titles and won’t be repeated in this review or others to keep it short and fit into Steam. If you’ve read it in any review or are already familiar with the engine, skip the pastebin link below. https://pastebin.com/CLvCzGp0 Shock Force 2 takes place in 2008 and was developed and released before the Civil War in Syria occurred. In the game’s backstory, Terrorists supported by the Syrian government detonate several “dirty” nuclear bombs in several Western cities, prompting a massive NATO effort to invade Syria. The base game contains the US Army, the Syrian Army (In three flavors: Republican Guard, Regular Army and Reserve army) and Unconventional forces (In two flavors, Combatants. Who are more like local militias and Fighters, who are more heavily armed insurgent groups similar to Al Qaeda and ISIS). Additional NATO armies (UK, Canada, Germany and Dutch armies) and Syrian formations (ie Airborne Troops, T-90 tanks…etc) are available in DLC packs with additional campaigns and scenarios. Since Combat Mission is a military simulation, the US Army is overwhelmingly more powerful than any of the Syrian factions that oppose it with no concessions made to gameplay balance. This is by design, the campaigns are focused on the Blue forces in all the modules because the Syrians and Insurgents have no chance in a stand up battle. This is a change of pace from many of the titles in the Combat Mission games, such as the WW2 titles or the recent Cold War, which are more focused on near-peer combat with most sides in the game being viable in a 1v1 fight. This title focuses more on unit preservation for the Blue side and sheer survival for the Red side. Taking out one Abrams tank is a huge loss for the Americans and a big victory for the REDFOR side, even if it took dozens of dead troops and 6 lost T-62 tanks to achieve. Insurgent factions present a problem for the engine though. They are included alongside very built up maps that really break the spotting engine wide open, leading to crap like having vehicles turn a corner and open fire and vehicles placed to ambush them before the ambushing vehicles even get a single shot off or even spot the offending vehicle. In terms of content, Shock Force 2 is one of the best in the CM lineup. Plenty of scenarios, campaigns and maps to keep you busy. Syria is a nice varied country so you have your desert maps, urban maps, beach maps, forest maps and valley maps. The additional modules probably give the game the most varied unit roster of any CM game outside of perhaps Fortress Italy. Being the first Combat Mission game out on Steam means it has plenty of players willing to play online and also creating unique maps, scenarios and campaigns. Not to mention that the game is completely backwards compatible with maps and scenarios made for Shock Force 1. Overall, despite my misgivings about the base engine, Shock Force 2 is a deep and addicting game with a plenty of gameplay to be had and an excellent starting off point for a CM newbie. Hell, you can even load up Syria vs Syria matches and play a poor man’s Combat Mission Cold War if you wished to save some dollars!

**EDIT** After playing some more the game has grown on me however I will leave my negative review standing as my points are still valid, I still feel the game lacks production value for the price asked and the engine is in dire need of an upgrade. Take this review more as a buyer beware. This was a series I was very happy to see come to steam, and jumped on it when it released, went back to playing it there and I can remember why I stopped playing it suddenly and forgot about it. This is possibly one of the most overpriced games I have ever played, I understand that they cover a lot of under the hood factors however when you compare it to another series that attempts the same type of simulation, Graviteam tactics, specifically mius front, you can see you've been sold a false bill of goods. Like christ here they cant be fu$ked to put fog of war at the edges of the maps, it just cuts off. Like they have in those horrible asset flips Jim Sterling plays. This game cost 50 euro, rarely goes on sale and its dlc cost the same as a lot of full fledged games while only adding a new campaign, some battles and a new faction barring one DLC which adds three. 30 euro gets you that, while over at Mius Front less than 15 euro gets you a new era, with 2 new factions, both of which you can play as with a full campaign each. Even the base game comes in around 20 euro cheaper with higher production value, more content, and more replay-ability due to its campaign design. An example in the difference, while small, Combat Mission said my tank was detracked, tho there was no visual representation of this, Mius Front doesn't need to say my tank is detracked....Cause they show it, and thats the game that costs considerably less. An example to how broken this game is, your FIRST mission you are told, oh there are AT mines, use engineers to destroy them. So you get your engineers out, go to where you are told the mines are and then..... wait I guess, I honestly don't know how I got past it last time. You put your lands next to the minefield, nothing, you crawl through the minefield, nothing, you say Oh maybe they need time, ait 8 minutes ( there is a counter in game it was legit 8 mins) and nothinnnggg. Once they showed a single minefield, and then you can mark the minefield....after you know its there, which seems to disarm the minefield?? I really don't know the forums say one thing the game fails to properly explain it i really dont know, so you have to blow them up. There is also no simple animation for marking the minefield...for 50 euro...they just lie there not even facing the minefield and after a bit they say hey its marked. And this is the first mission, the first impression. Overall for 50 euro for quarter of the game you get bad graphics, zero polish, terrible animations a clunky and confusing UI and control scheme, subpar sound effects, horrible special effects and bad voice acting. If it was 20 euro I'd say fine, for 50 euro I expect more, more like Mius Front. Oh and the devs know the engine needs an upgrade but they just can't be arsed to do it even though its mentioned in every discussion on their games, in even small battles the game can dip to 15 frames which causes some severe command delay.

This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most realistic war-based game that you will find anywhere. Don't expect an RTS. This game will take you through how real armies fight. You will realise the futility of sending troops out into the open without sufficient cover. You will learn how to implement real world tactics into your play, and most importantly you will learn how deadly the modern battlefield really is. There is a reason why professional militaries use the game to prepare their troops. The detail put into the game in terms of ammunition, vehicles and morale makes this the closest that you would want to get to real combat. I have been waiting for the steam release with baited breath, having collected all of the other Battlefront titles and I hope that this move opens up the game to the wider public. This truly is one of the all time classic military simulators and I am now going to continue the British campaign slogging through the Syrian defences with my Scottish Reg't.

So many times people are asking for an option to give a "maybe" instead of thumbs up or down, but the option still isn't here so I'm going to give thumbs up, but with reservations. This is an awesome, super realistic tactical simulation that currently doesn't have a peer. The graphics are not great, but I think anyone in the potential customer segment probably can overlook that. The only tactical game comparable in realism currently available in Steam that I can think of is Armored Brigade, and that has even more barren graphics in 2D (but is also significantly cheaper). So the price is steep as heck, mainly due to the niche nature of the game. In return you get a level of detail and realism that is incredible, and the game really requires you to apply yourself and think every decision through is you are to succeed in your mission. In the campaigns (at least most of them) there also will be no replacements for casualities, so every loss of men and/or equipment really stings. I also recommend the DLCs for more equipment, missions and campaigns, but the reservation about price also applies to those. To summarize: The ultimate experience in tactical simulation that hits your wallet as hard as a barrage from a battery of 155mm SPGs. Still, I'm looking forward to CM: Black Sea that I understand is the next Battlefront title coming to Steam.

Well, the game just is not worth the price. Way way overpriced so don't waste your money on it. Basic game gives you only 2 campaigns and one playable faction at the cost of 50e. If you want more campaigns and factions you have to pay 30e more for them. This is ripoff, not a game.
