  If you have a problem with running the game, such a "cannot initialize 3d". Try this. 1) Go to "YourSteamDirectory"\SteamApps\common\Battle Mages Sign of Darkness\data 2) Open "config.cfg" with notepad. 3) Using CTRL + F find vidHeight= 4) Set it to vidHeight="1024" 5) Using CTRL + F find vidWidth= 6) Set it to vidWidth="1280" 7) Save the "config.cfg" 8) Run the game vidHeight="1024" and vidWidth="1280" is worked for me, you also may try vidHeight="768" and vidWidth="1024" vidHeight="600" and vidWidth="800" Если при запуске игры выскакивает ошибка "cannot initialize 3d".   This game is OLD. But still a pretty okay strategy game. One of them Strategy games with an Avatar commander, I kinda like those types of games. In this case you directly control a battle mage, or rather his astral projection, and of course you direct the troops. You can arm your army with special equips, your troops can drag items, and you can do quests for towns and of course delve into the story. And ofcourse the mage can also cast some spells from his projection. There's also a level system for the mage. From what I've seen so far it's per campaign level. There's a few slight issues with the controls; turning the camera for instance can be a bit troublesome, which is annoying because you do have to keep a good eye out. And if one guy of a troop gets stuck somewhere, the whole troop walks slow as hell and is hardly of any use until you get them back together... So you do need to keep an eye out on that. But that's the only trouble I've seen, the rest of the game seems to be fine.

  Well. This game seems to be one that everyone missed even when it's on sale in Christmas. The 66% approval rating is kinda low mostly because there seems to be a bunch of people have problem running this game and posted it in review. However those reivew were posted sometime ago and I don't seem to have any issue running it on my Windows 8.1 and Lenovo thinkpad. I will give it a thumb up so maybe there are more people try thie one out. It's a fairly simple game that you are have a Astral body that floating around controling an army and do spell action. (remind me the hand that in old Dungeon keep games). It's quite a bit more hassal to get use to since we all use to just have a god eye view of most strategy game and just mouse to point and click. This one force you to turn around... move to get better view of the battle field. You summon creature, Cast spell, Heal Troops, level up Troops, upgrade Troops, Destorying Lairs to stop monster respawn (like Majestic). You can also help towns garther resource to upgrade to offer better troops and items. Your Astral body cannot pick up item but your troops can.. they can equip item... drink potions. Everything in this game seems a bit off our normal comfort zone of command click since everything just seems a bit usual. Do not despire.. play it a bit more and give it a bit chance to prove it self. The first map is quite boring but once you move on to the next few it gets better. It's only just over a dollar right now in store.. give this one a try. It even offer trading cards. (someone please play and trade with me so i can complete level 1 badge.) Low Budget game that will probably make you spent quite a bit time to complete each of the levels in single player. (which i will spent eventually after i get my trading cards from other games.)

  The quests let you herd a pack of slowing moving mobs through map wondering where the hell you're supposed to be going. I'd prefer a stupid arrow pointing a direction as the details are lacking every time unlike in Morrowind for example. This is bargain bin stuff and gets repetitive real quick, wouldn't recommend unless you get a nostalgia boner for this.

  TLDR: Almost identical to the previous title, with more content, but more issues. Average RTS/RPG blend with average RTS/RPG execution __________________________________________________________________________ Overview: Continuation of Battle Mages, this game is a RTS/RPG blend with stronger emphasis on the RPG side with intensive micro The game has 4 different campaigns, multiplayer mode and supposedly "single levels", but just like in the previous title, there is no way to play singleplayer (instead of the singleplayer button being grayed out, its now just an empty list with no maps. great job) Each campaign has 4 pretty long missions This is a micro intense game, meaning loosing your units is heavily discouraged, loosing the entire squad is a no-no, you´re encouraged to keep your units alive and upgrade them into their better versions Each unit can go up to 5 ranks, with the possibility of upgrading into the next tier at rank 4 in the corresponding faction town (from tier 1 troop into tier 3) You will never really "own" a town and use workers, it´s just you, and your squads There are towns in the game that you can visit, recruit units from, upgrade units, replenish units, acquire main quests or dynamic random quests to help the town grow and gain some gold You have mana, quick spells and spellbook spells, your quickslot spells are mana-cost free to cast, while spellbook spells need mana to be casted, you can use this to cast multiple of the same spell at once Your mana drains by being too far away from your army with your camera/avatar You can increase your mana regeneration by leaving a magical spirit near a magical energy place, where the spirit wont loose energy and thus wont despawn __________________________________________________________________________ Issues: The pathing, just like in the first game is at times completely horrid. Your units from your squad will get stuck on terrain, be it a hill or a pebble, and if you dont send the rest of the squad back for the units behind, your squad will slow down insanely, even to the point where they can barely move, rendering that squad of units unusable for the rest of the mission Most of the issues from the first game are present here There would be main quests that expect you to bring resources like wood and stone (Prologue 2), but at this point, i´ve already cleared out the entire map and sold all the resources to the town, giving me no choice but to slaughter all the allied goblins (this was an option, but the annoyance comes from the fact that I had no other choice simply because I didn´t predict there would be a wood/stone quest like that) The worst issue ive come by was the last mission of Chapter 1, and that issue was an insanely unbalanced last fight in the Trodd´s castle, where if you didn´t put any of your points into max mana, you would never have enough time to finish this fight before your time runs out (even with animation cancel cheese), so my only option is to either restart the entire campaign (not mission, the whole campaign) and spec my character differently, or cheat. This is the major point of why I can´t reccomend this game over the first one, having an unbeatable mission isn´t really acceptable in my book __________________________________________________________________________ The good bad: Just like in the previous title, you can animation cancel by repeatedly pressing the "stop" button on your units, making your units restart the attacking animation thus increasing their attack speed (you don´t have to finish the attack animation to deal damage) You can speed up the game a tiny bit by pressing "-" or "+" __________________________________________________________________________ Story: The story is even goofier than in the first game, with silly villainery and tomfoolery, enjoyable if you don´t take it too seriously __________________________________________________________________________ Conclusion: It would be a straight improvement to the first game, but due to the fact that the worst issue (pathing glitches) still remain and that there is a mission that you can´t beat because you didn´t spec your character specifically. I don´t know if I can recommend this one Also the fact that the singleplayer still doesn´t work, I really wanted to try out the non-campaign side of the game, shame Otherwise the game is basically the same as the first one in terms of enjoyability, requires alot of patience and saving, so if you do enjoy that kind of stuff, go right ahead This game cost 0.49€ on sale This game is a 4.5/10 for me

  The game is old and it's noticeable via the graphics, but it runs smooth and it doesn't hurt the game play. I can't tell about the other languages, but at some parts English voice overs were not so good. Despite all this I do like the game. It's something different and the story kept me interested. The characters are interesting and the game has a lot of diversity. This is an add-on to the game [url=http://store.steampowered.com/app/302470] Battle Mages [/url], so it has almost the same interface and graphics, but the game is a stand alone installation. It has some changes though, but I won't go into them right now. Battle Mages: Sign of Darkness delivers a lot more game play and story than the first game did. It has four different campaigns, each having their own focus on the main story. They each offer a different character, different combination of skills and availability of resources and troops, so you can experience the diversity the game offers. You play the game by assembling an army, to complete quests, fight enemies to make the world a safer place and help those who need it. You have a wide variety of available troops from human, orc, elf and goblin races including close range fighters, long range troops, mages and even heavy artillery. You buy your troops in towns. As you fight enemies, you and your troops gain experience. Your troops get stronger with each level of experience and when a unit reaches level 4, you can upgrade them to a better unit, but some units can't be upgraded and have only one level. Upgrades can be done in any available town of the right race (human troops get updated in human towns etc.). Not all kind of towns will be available though, since you will travel to far away lands. You aid your troops with spells, healing and empowering them, summoning Magical spirits to aid them. You also have a wide variety of damaging spells you can use on your enemies. Spells require mana to be cast, with no mana you can cast only the spells you put in quick access (F5-F9, F10 summons Magical spirit and can't be changed). After casting a spell from quick access, it takes a while to regenerate. When you gain experience, you can use it to learn new spells, learn new skills or upgrade your max mana, mana regeneration or maximum army size and more. When you reach a new level, a new set of spells gets available.
