Norse mythology has become an increasingly popular source of inspiration for game developers seeking to create immersive and captivating experiences, especially in RPG games. Drawing from the rich tapestry of gods, epic battles, and gorgeous realms, these games offer players a chance to step into the shoes of mighty warriors and mythical beings.
Myth: Gods of Asgard is the latest addition to the long list of games set in the magical world of Norse mythology. It’s an upcoming action RPG game developed by Momo Technology HK. Inspired by the rich Norse lore, this game allows players to embody the mighty Norse gods themselves. With its immersive hack-and-slash combat, breathtaking visuals, and epic battles, Myth: Gods of Asgard promises an unforgettable gaming experience.
Let us delve into the details of this highly anticipated title as we review all the major aspects of the game to find out if it's actually worth our time.
Myth: Gods of Asgard Gameplay
Myth Gods of Asgard is an epic-looking RPG with a thrilling hack-and-slash combat system where players assume the roles of the powerful Norse gods, becoming the very embodiment of their divine powers. Players get to choose from a plethora of legendary deities, including Thor, Freya, Siegfried and more. Each character in this game comes packed with their own unique strengths, abilities, and playstyles. The game has you fighting against some of the fiercest warriors in Norse mythology, including Nidhogg, Fenrir, and Jörmungandr.
But that’s how the developers describe the game. As far as the fans are concerned, I can already see many comparing Myth: Gods of Asgard to Hades, one of the most popular roguelike hack-and-slash titles in the gaming industry. And to be honest, there are some shocking similarities between the two games from what I’ve seen so far. The game looks exactly like Hades in terms of visual art and world setting. So much so that even the doors resemble the ones in Hades. Of course, there are some differences as well that help make the game stand out on its own, including characters, story, and gameplay mechanics.
The thing that excites me the most is Myth’s fast-paced, hack-and-slash combat to help you fight challenging enemies and colossal bosses with an isometric view. The game also features a vast arsenal of weapons and powerful skills to pull awe-inspiring skill effects, chaining devastating combos together to defeat your foes and help gods change their fate.
Myth: Gods of Asgard Story
As far as the story of this game is concerned, Myth Gods of Asgard draws inspiration from masterpieces, such as Eda, Song of the Nibelungen, Beowulf, and the Gospel of Loki, meticulously crafting a storyline that brings these ancient tales to life. With the chaos slowly taking over the world, you have to do everything in your power to defeat the forces of darkness and stop Ragnarok, the cataclysmic event that looms over the realms of Norse mythology.
As you progress through the game’s challenging dungeons, you earn “Blessings” from Asgard, similar to “Boons” in Hades. Gathering these Blessings allows you to unlock new powers and abilities that enhance your combat experience and help you conquer the nine Norse realms. You can even unlock new gods to expand your divine repertoire and master more powerful combat techniques. And while the story is different from Hades, the game still plays out the same way.
Gods of Asgard Characters
Myth Gods of Asgard feature a plethora of powerful characters from Norse Mythology, each possessing unique features, skills, and powers. As a beginner, you can select from a total of five characters to start your journey in the game. You can basically pick any of the characters, as the game allows you to switch between the characters at any point, encouraging experimentation until you find the one that’s right for you. It’s important that you do so because it helps you better understand the strengths and weaknesses of each character.
According to what I’ve experienced and learned so far, Thor is one of the best characters to start the game with. He is incredibly powerful and versatile, with a tanky nature that allows him to absorb damage and take out enemies with his exceptionally powerful AoE attacks. You can always switch to other characters in the game if Thor isn’t your style or speed, but it’s definitely worth a shot.
While Thor may be the best choice for a beginner, other gods and deities in the game offer their own remarkable skill sets and playstyles. Here are brief descriptions of some of the characters available in Myth: Gods of Asgard:
- Ullr: The god of the hunt, who is a versatile character with great attack, and abilities defense combined with quick mobility. He is one of the best ranged characters available early on in the game. With his powerful bow and arrows, Ullr can deal significant damage from a distance.
- Freya: The goddess of love, beauty, and fertility. Freya is a versatile character with decent attack, but great defense, and speed stats. She is a great support character, who has the ability to revive allies.
- Brunhild: Another powerful support character with high healing and defense stats. Brunhild excels in good crowd control, with her shield able to protect allies from damage.
These are just a few of the many awesome characters that are going to be a major part of the game from its very start. You will be able to unlock these characters as you progress through the nine realms, earn blessings and defeat powerful enemies.
