I love Assassin's Creed and to not talk about the "Assassin's Creed Chronicles" trilogy of games would be a shame. Last in the Chronicles is Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia. Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia is really hard for me to like or hate. The game completely changes up everything you have done or learned in the past two games. The stealth is good and has been polished, the combat is great and also has been polished and the graphics are beautiful again. The game takes place in 1918 Russia, in the aftermath of the October Revolution. You play as an Assassin called "Nikolai Orelov" who has one last mission to complete before he retires to live with his family but things do not go as planned. There is one MAJOR downside.... you are forced to complete levels in a VERY SPECIFIC way or you will be "Desychronized" over and over again until you do it the way the devs intended it to be. The chase scenes..... i cant even talk about them.... i have PTSD from them. For this reason i sadly again, cannot recommend this game but instead i will recommend that you buy the comic book: Assassin's Creed: The Fall and the graphic novel sequel: The chain as they are worth it compared to the game which i rate personally (the game) 3/10 but the books 8/10. P.S if you bought and played all 3 (like me) and collected all the "hidden codes" for the "secret ending" Congrats! The secret ending mentions alot of names im sure you have heard of before - "Juhani Otso Berg", "laetitia England"and "Shay cormac" (The Assassin-turned-Templar). If you want to know this ending just watch it on YT to be honest and save yourself the trouble of buying the books or the games. (I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BOOKS)

So far, looks awesome. Love the black-white addition. I need to play more to contract a detailed review, but if you didn't like the other two games of the series, don't bother buy this one. Same gameplay, same mechanics, same environment, different stories. Works fine for me, it is what I expected. For more, have a look at my review on India. There are also steam cards for this one. Completely satisfied! http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=620251785

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia is a 2.5D side-scrolling puzzle platformer. While not altogether different from the other Assassin's Creed Chronicles games, it offers a different and unique challenge. The difficulty has been ramped up in this version to provide a bit more of a challenge, but not so much so that it'll take you longer than 5-7 hours to beat it. At the end of the story, I'm left with more questions than answers, but I'm told that this series is a companion series to the comic books which I have not read. You'll go through 10 memory sequences which will feel familiar if you've ever played a main series Assassin's Creed game, though these are much shorter, much less cinematic, and much more comic book-y. You'll play through a series of sequences in which you are scored based on your "style grade" and you'll earn bonuses for being extra stealthy, non-lethal, and make good use of your resources. Some of my favorite levels are the "chase and run" levels where you're racing the clock to reach the exit. Those were by far the most fun and interactive. The controls are a little unresponsive, but no more or less responsive than the previous two Assassin's Creed Chronicles games. All in all, I would reccommend playing Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia as a breather to the main AC series. While not the best game, this has inspired me to try out other 2.5D puzzle platformers and that's a good thing.

I liked China, I somewhat liked India, but this... First of all: Why the hell the high scores needed to progress the character? Is like the devs wanted us to GOLD every segment and do a non lethal run + getting the secondary objectives + getting all collectibles, WHILE coping with pixel perfect jumps and perfect timing. Since the collectibles are not an essential part, plus, no hidden ending, there wasn't any for me to try and collect all like I did on China and India, I just wanted to stick to the gameplay and finish it as soon as possible. So, it was just for adding a "collect things" thing. Nice visuals, bad execution.

Amazing arts and excellent story. But if you are easily irratated by repeated gameplay of dying and retrying, just don't pick this. Listen to my advice or let this game become your repeating nightmare.

Nice Artwork but playing is NO fun at all. Long loading times ? check Penalties for killing and combat ? check Dastardly and viscous gameplay ? check Super precise playing requested. But the controls aren`t responsive ? check (sneaking over a dead body five times before being able to loot) (bumping into enemies you wanted to assassinate from the back makes you freeze until guard turns around and kills you. lol) It`s easier to jump to the chest of guards and backflip off than stabbing the mf ? check Upgrades are hard to get ? check (having to "learn" the levels and repeat checkpoints before moving on? check) Stupid enemy AI ? check (sneaking up on guards and pickpocket when two guards are facing each other) (assassinate a guard, pull him into a vent in front of another guard. He won`t look into the vents, just run left and right. facepalm) Menues, selection and options are not on par with good games? check Requires UPLAY? Check ! This game is garbage I don`t recommend to anyone

I would recommend this game EXCEPT for the level design choices. The graphics are amazing, the controls are decent, and the story is great (especially if you've read the comics The Fall and The Chain and know a bit of Nikolai Orelov's story). The platforming and stealth combat are decent and fairly polished. The problem here is that some (if not most) scenarios are designed to be completed one way, and you are destined to see "Desychronized" a lot until you figure out the way the developers wanted you to beat that scenario. While this can be frustrating, it's overcomable...until you get to the chase sequences. The chase sequences are brutal, timed so tightly that you will repeat them over and over AND OVER again until you optimize your movements and can make it to the destination point. This is intensely frustrating and almost made me stop playing the game. I pushed through for the story, but I do not recommend this approach to anyone else. Go watch a let's play or just watch the cutscenes on YouTube unless you want a punishing platformer that is not very rewarding when you beat it. Oh, and there's no option to invert your Y axis on a controller during the 1st person sniper scenes. Climax Studios, please...

The worst of all AC Chronicles. Be prepared to face thousands of desynchronisations: often you have to perform some jump or other move perfectly, like pixel level. Moreover, you don't have any freedom regarding your playstyle: let's say you like to go killing every enemy, for example. Forget here: in many cases it means automatic desynchronisation, even if you just get seen by an enemy. Last, if you still want to give it a chance, at least play with a controller. It will help in those many pixel perfection missions.

As a fan of the Assassin's Creed series (and the AC: Chronicles spin-offs, to a lesser extent), I really wanted to like this game. I enjoyed the previous games in the series despite the occasionally brutal learning curve and segments that could get a little unfair, but AC: Russia is easily the worst of the bunch. There are tons of gameplay sections where pixel perfect timing is required to advance, and I ended up having to replay some of these sections 15-20 times in order to get past them. The amount of trial and error that is required to complete the game really begs the question whether or not it's even worth playing at all; which is an absolute shame because ACC: Russia undoubtedly has the best story in the entire trilogy. For the first time in Assassin's Creed history, we get a straightforward and consistently-engaging narrative with no unecessary filler along the way. Nikolai and Anastasia's story is genuinely gripping--and most importantly, it foregoes the common AC trope of sending you after a set number of assassination targets in a linear fashion until the inevitable confrontation with another generic evil villian. Their story revolves around both characters trying to escape Russia, but there's lots of unexpected twists along the way, and it even boldly frames the Templars and the Assassins as two sides of the same coin; both willing to commit grave injustices to accomplish their goals. I was also very surprised to see the level of ambition and creativity on display during the set-piece sequences. The entire game takes place on a 2.5D plane, and the devs took full advantage of it in order to deliver some genuine "wow" moments that wouldn't seem out of place in some of Ubisoft's bigger AAA titles. Unfortunately, those are the only compliments I can give. For every mildy enjoyable gameplay section, there is another frustrating (and borderline unfair) race-against-the-clock challenge right around the corner. No amount of preperation or skill can save you from replaying them over and again, effectively destroying any semblance of forward momentum (or fun) that you may have been having. I truly thought about ending my playthough on multiple occasions thanks to these poorly-designed levels. Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia effectively undoes anything good that it brings to the table with some bafflingly incompetent game design. I'm torn, because it really had the potential to be the definitive game in the series, and one that might've pulled in more people than just the AC die-hards if only it had been polished a bit more, if only they'd spent more time. It pains me to know that it will be written off as just another forgettable entry in a spin-off series that could've been so much more.
