Only 2hours in and my 3year old son loves playing it. Well he control the throttle, but he knows all the trucks name and seems to enjoy it. So as a father/son game i can recommend.

This game is fine, but it can be easily improved by removing the powers/passives (including boost) and freestyle event beacons. Let the trucks represent the absurdity that makes Monster Jam awesome, not some magical fantasy elements! Remove the aforementioned aspects and replace the maps with realistic ones, and you got yourself a near-perfect Monster Jam game. Don't over complicate it! Keep it realistic. Also, the different trucks should offer significantly different driving experiences. It would be neat if the different trucks were tuned to match their real-life versions (eg Avenger being very loose). It doesn't have to be perfect. Even arbitrary differences between the trucks would make the game significantly more replayable and less mindless. Another idea to really ramp up this game's quality is to copy Wreckfest's systems of upgrades and tuning. The upgrades would also satisfy progression in place of the current leveling mechanic. I get that Monster Jam doesn't prioritize games and are just looking to release some quick fun, but I truly think simple decisions like those I've explained can turn this game into an actual good game that hits a broader audience, not just something for those attracted to the Monster Jam logo. From PSP to console to mobile to PC, I've searched for a satisfying monster truck game. Its unfortunate that after all this game satisfied, it disregarded one of the only things that made the other monster truck games fun -- realism.

Incredibly low effort game. -No water effects. You drive through it, no difference in handling, no splash, nothing. -Physics are awkwardly stuck between simulation and arcade. -Graphics are not what I'd expect to see in 2021 - think PS3. Trucks look pretty good, environments are pretty bad. -The AI is HORRIBLE. -Stunts aren't physics based, just kind of happen when you meet the right conditions. Disappointing.

+Great physics and graphics, if you are familiar with the behavior of the CRD Monster Truck in BeamNG you will find little flaw in this, but it is Forza-esque "simcade" in that you have lots of assists on tap, making it easy to learn and hard to master. +Responsive controls, advanced options for separate rear steering and manual transmission +Decent wheel support, good FFB +Fun variety of racing and stunt modes +Great trick scoring and combo system +Huge hub world and colorful graphics make it feel a bit like a '90s 3d platformer but you are a monster truck. -Cannot reassign controls easily -Missing effects like watersplashes -Odd sticky collisions with other trucks -Not all objects are breakable -AI is very fast by itself but not smart enough to race other trucks very well making some events more challenging than they need to be -Truck special abilities make the AI's inability to overtake worse -Early game events are a boring slog (drag racing in a circle?), AI is quite strong, your truck starts out slow, and the races are short, but it picks up later -Checkpoint races have overzealous cut protection and often just ruin your race resetting you before you even have a chance to return to the track To configure the controls on a steering wheel, the only way I've found possible is finding UserWheelInput.ini in "AppData\Local\MJST2\Saved\Config\Windows" and manually changing the numbers minus one to reflect the button labels reported in the Windows Joystick control panel (0 = 1, 1 = 2, etc.). Also, as a bonus, if you make a shortcut to MJST2-Win64-Shipping.exe and add the "-vr" command line option you can play with your SteamVR-compatible HMD. The menus and HUD are broken in this clearly unfinished mode but the meat of the game is still fully playable and lots of fun. Hope to see this as an official feature soon. Overall a great budget racing game with surprisingly detailed physics. It does nothing really new or exciting aside from being one of the few games to have even vaguely realistic monster truck racing, and suffers a bit for it's lack of polish and direction. It's hard to tell whether it's for kids or the old veterans of the MSN Gaming Zone, but it is definitely all fun, and the inclusion of real life arenas along with the fantasy hub world means you can play pretty much however you like.

MOST NEGATIVE REVIEWERS PLAYED THE GAME FOR LESS THAN 30 MIN! physics are better, the trucks feel better, the trucks themselves are cooler trucks...musics better(still not good, but better). the AI is a little wonky from time to time and i've had some hilarious stretching glitches with damaged body panels. the driver animation is the same from the last game when you win a race..kinda cheesy. the story/career mode is fun. i like the exploration concept for unlocking the trucks and such. way more fun that just earning money and maxing stats. not a sim...dont know why people are acting like it was supposed to be.

The only thing we need is a larger PVP community, online. Lets go everybody! Game is savage.

So, after a few hours im really pleased. Let me tell you why: Monster trucks are a very American thing, and from Ive noticed, a very "first motor sport" vibe to it. For anyone who may not have any regular exposure to Monster Trucks, its important to remember that these machines arent racing cars. They arent rally cars, not Nascars, not Dragsters, etc. They are heavily glorified stunt vehicles. Vehicles meant to do high speed, at short distance. Trucks equivalent to hyper active puppies. This game requires you to think about the unique movement and durable nature of monster trucks, but at a level they could never hope to achieve. The real life "Monster Jam" events require you to obey and confer to the rules of MT, giving an "extreme alt sports" feel to the game. In the same vein as Tony Hawks Pro Skater, Taco Apocalypse, or Rocket League. Its a unique way to think about the movement of a vehicle, because really only MT's have this kind of movement. IF you have played Redout, you would be at home, if not, and you dont know what im referring to, its the four wheel steering in MT's. Youll be using both sticks on a controller to perform otherwise "normal" turns and maneuvers so it may take some getting used to. Because, as i stated earlier, these machines were never really meant to perform at this level. And yet, the game allows you to do this extreme level of movement and speed. its filled with real labeled trucks, a very very mixed soundtrack and makes you rethink how you as a player would move and control a vehicle in a "racing" game. On top of that, it offers a New Game+ mode so you could grind the crap out of this with a friend, or maybe younger family member.

The inconsistent difficulty completes kills the fun!!! I don't even care about the constant visual glitches, or stupid hard to reach collectibles. Playing on EASY mode to just enjoy the main game, and it's anything but! Arena races, Arena championships - can lap others no problem. Wreck, or spin out in a 3 lap arena race? Still no problem to win! Then you do the outdoor world races, and it's like it's locked at Hard mode?!? If you spin out even one time during a 5 minute race, you mine as well restart, because you're LAST. Over shoot a checkpoint just slightly, and have to back up, hit it and keep going? Oh well. LAST PLACE. Screw This.
