Follow a gripping, surprise-filled journey as two dissimilar characters form an uneasy partnership in order to survive through a perilous, post-apocalyptic America.

150 years in the future, war and destruction have left the world in ruins with few humans remaining and nature having reclaimed the world. Mysterious slave ships harvest the dwindling population and take them out west, never to return.

Trip, a technologically savvy young woman has been imprisoned by a slave ship but manages to escape using her mental prowess. Monkey, a strong, brutish loner and fellow prisoner also gets free by virtue of his raw power and brawn. Trip quickly realizes that Monkey is her ticket to freedom and is her only hope to survive her perilous journey back home. She hacks a slave headband and fits it on Monkey, linking them together. If she dies, he dies and her journey has now become his. ENSLAVED centers on the complex relationship between the two main characters. I'm ashamed it took me 4 years to play this game, and It's the only game I've completed in a single sitting. It's a masterpiece.

THIS GAME IS EPIC... EVEN BY TODAY STANDARDS... It's one of the best damn games ever made. Why not a sequel...?

Honestly I never knew this game existed until a few months ago, But damn the game was good af. A bit too short imo and it definitely deserved the sequel it was supposed to get but sadly won't. A must buy if you're a seeker of lost/forgotten hidden gems. It's usually on sale super cheap every time Steam Has a sale if you don't feel like spending 20 bucks.

👍🏻 Game is great. Love the characters, animations, story, beautiful graphics, varied gameplay... definitely recommended and underrated! But.... 👎🏻 ...This game also has a lot of bugs and problems unfortunately, for example: it silently crashes on quit every single time (annoying), has game-breaking bugs if played at the "wrong" gfx settings (physics routines bug?), issues when >60fps, mouse+keyboard is unusable because of a horrible negative mouse acceleration you can't fix editing ini files (you must play with gamepad only!). I wish more patches had been released but the game is now obviously abandoned (old game released in 2010). A real shame: it deserved more love from devs. BTW, DLC (Pigsy) is not worth playing and can be totally ignored.

I'm only on the third chapter, but it's refreshing to see such a lively game that mixes so many great emotions. I don't understand why this isn't some sort of bestseller. Perhaps companies should start looking more into developing PC ports more often as there's a vast amount of gamers like us out there who don't use consoles. I'm glad I discovered this game and these guys deserve the money. Buy it!

Completed the game in a little over 7 hours. Great story with compelling characters and great voice acting, although by the end it leaves a lot of unanswered questions that I suppose would be answered in a sequel or two, that sadly we are unlikely too see. In that respect it felt a little lackluster and just a bit weird. Combat on the whole can become very repetetive but it's still a challenge in some scenarios and not bad overall for such an old game. Climbing isn't much of a challenge but still feels cool enough for that to not matter. I feel like a lot of effort went into the opening sequence and would have liked that level of immersion to carry on throughout. The key thing that kept me playing was the synergy between Monkey & Trip and I feel it would have developed into an excellent franchise had it continued. Overall: 7/10

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is an odd game, albeit a very interesting one. It's not an original IP per se, as it was a very loose adaptation of classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West" about Sun Wukong, Tripitaka, and others pilgrim to retrieve Buddhist sacred texts. Enslaved is somewhat inspired by it with some characters lifted directly from the source material and thrown into a post-apocalyptic setting with robots and nature-filled vista. The game is boasted by the pedigree of peoples worked on it; from Ninja Theory as main devs, Namco Bandai as publisher, to Alex Garland as writer, and Andy Serkis providing motion capture and voice for main character. But, it doesn't save the game from usual trappings & limitations of the PS3/Xbox 360 era. The combat & control are simple & easy to pick up. The puzzles & platforming are plenty with easy and often assisted maneuverability. The graphic is pretty much what a typical Unreal Engine 3 game from that era would look like. It's vibrant, colorful & somewhat cartoonish by today's standard. Andy Serkis & team gave it their all in the performances, even in the low & high points of the game. Overall, it is quite a good game with intriguing premise & mediocre gameplay. It showed the potential of Ninja Theory as devs with penchant in world-building/storytelling & performance capture/voice-acting very clearly.

Like Vanquish and Bioshock, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a game I first recall seeing randomly in one of those video game tier lists on TV, but never looked back on it until very recently to play for myself, now I see it as a hidden gem that soon may be long forgotten. Not to say I can't see why this game is underrated, it's a bit of an odd one with having an obvious slice of the Journey to the West concept, as well as being a loose commentary on slavery and questioning if it's right for someone takes away humans' free will to see the harsh reality. It doesn’t completely run with the messaging, as just when it's about to answer some question it sort of ends without many resolutions, leaving a lot of internal and external questions to answer for yourself: What is Enslaved: Odyssey to the West at the end of the day? What is its purpose (other than making money)? Did I enjoy it? Why do I feel empty? Was it worth the money? It's not for everyone in that regard, as for me, I’m alright with the way it is, it's not the best, not the worst, just a something game that tried to do something new outside the norms, and I guess for me personally this is one of those missing childhood memory I uncover, which could be why I have a major soft spot for it. Even if it is on the nose, I love the Journey to the West aesthetic along with the amazing motions capture and voice acting, all these element help made characters like Trip, Monkey, and Piggy believable and complement each other, to the point I have forgotten they are isolated in a post-apocalyptic environment with no other character. Speaking of that, my only slight issue is the lack of characters, I would have liked to see more alive people with different dialogue collaboration, and to feel weirdly enough a little less lonely while playing this game, which I guess was the point. Nothing too revelationary with the gameplay, just spamming the jump button when platforming, and the attack buttons once you unlock most of the Monkey skills, making the combat more of a brawler type to the point you can take out future 'bosses' easily. The only noteworthy thing for me where the stealth section, which I very much enjoyed where you can command Trip to distract, disable and move for example and you have to make sure not only yourself (playing as Monkey), but she doesn't die or it's game over. These sections are quite simple and linear, but it was nice to feel like I needed to be tactical with the discussion-making because one was wrong can be costly and I love how the character responded throughout what choices you made right or wrong. Sad to see fewer of them while progressing those this game. Despite being set in a post-apocalyptic, there's still so much life with environmental design such as some historical sites and some gorgeous plants, aqua, and construction with some pretty detailed texture for the time it was released, mucky, but still pleasing to look at. From my experience, I can’t say I suffer from many problems other than the camera being wonky and the focus being too glaring. I only came across one crash from what I remember, but just a disclaimer, I played this game almost 1 year and a half years ago, so I probably forgot to mention something, saying that, do check out the other review of people running into more major problems like not being able to change the resolution or the multiple glitches they encounter, I can't speak much of it as this game run mostly fine for me. I'm not sure how to end this other than asking for more, but it has been over 10 years so that's unlikely. Maybe I'll pick out the comic book, I truly what to know how it continues after the ending. All I could say, what a journey this was.

Ok so basically a watered down Prince of Persia with Arkham Asylum style combat plus am monkey. Try it out, it's pretty fun. Definitely check out the PC Gaming Wiki article tho, 'cause this requires some minor config file tweaking to get the shadows and resolution looking fine in Windows 10/11. There's also a Steam Guide somewhere if you're lazy (you are).

One of the worst pc ports i have ever seen. I was excited to play this game, but my excitement quickly disappeared, when I launched the game and tried to play it. Its impossible to play on mouse and keyboard due to negative mouse acceleration and there is no fix for that. I also tried a few guides to fix my problems with graphics settings, but nothing helps. Its a mess so I refunded it.
