Princess Maker 5 Funciones

Welcome to the world of 「Princess Maker 5」!

■ Your and your daughter's story starts again

The stage of 「Princess Maker 5」 is the world we are living in now.

There is not only a TV, but we use the cellphone and the Internet as well.

But something is a bit different than those.

It's a world where the demons and fairies are living together.

And for you living in such world comes an orphan girl by nature.

This girl was the only Princess candidate survivor of the Kingdom that you served in the past.

At that time, you decided to take the girl and raise her as your daughter.

And your and your daughter's story starts.

■ Game contents

In this game(version), the player can choose father and mother as well as the name.

The main character, a former Hero of this world, is living in a modern world.

And a butler comes to you to take care of a girl who was driven by a power struggle in another world.

The girl lost her memories in another world.

The player's mission is to raise this girl safely.

She is about 10 years old and you have to make her a good adult for 8 years.

It is good to be a bride in pursuit of happiness in the real world, and a costume player and an actress are good too.

You can also go back to a chaotic Kingdom and go on a journey of adventure and romance.

■ The daughter grows with the player's mind

Let's decide on how to raise your daughter with your curfew, balance of study and play, etiquette, and so on.

She will act in accordance with the 「Education Policy」 that you can set out every month.

If she comes home late, she may be able to hang out at night, but become sociable.

Playing too much makes her neglect her studies.

Your way of raising will determine your daughter's future whether it is sparthan or laissez-faire.

On weekdays, your daughter goes to school. The schedules at school are fixed but it is up to you, the parent, to decide what to do after school.

If she goes to academy, she can raise a lot of abilities but it requires money.

She can do the same by making money with part-time jobs but there are different abilities depending on the type of academy and part-time jobs, so care must be taken not to cause stress.

■ Daughter's condition at a glance with MOE (Motion OF Emotion) system

The SD character displayed in the daughter's room reflects the daughter's abilities, personality, condition, and interests.

She is lying in bed when she is not feeling well, and may often take a sigh of relief at times when stressed, and shout at a doll from time to time.

It's fun to see a cute SD character moving around the room.

This is a new AI system called MOE.

She can be a tomboy with the concept of 「Personality Parameter」 or 「Puberty」,

and sometimes she becomes rebellious, expressing a more human form.

■ Variety of clothes

When talking to your daughter, your daughter's graphics are displayed on the screen.

At this time, you can change the clothes your daughter is wearing.

If she dresses up to TPO, she'll stay in shape, and when she dates, the evaluation of the opponent will change.

As you play the game, you get more clothes.

■ Attention to the changes of your daughter

As your daughter grows, her body shape changes.

Also, don't take your eyes off your daughter's daily changes as her facial expressions adjust to her changes.

■ Numerous characters and events

In order to describe the modern stage and the fantastic world view of 「Princess Maker」, we needed more various parameters and a character surrounding them.

In eight years, more complex human relationships are made up of about 100 characters, which are the biggest in the series.

Some of them develop friendships, or being rivals for love, living in another world, and you'll find a couple of old faces if you have played the previous game.

Of course, there are plenty of endings to match the modern- and another world with the greatest play time of the series, so you can play it multiple times for fun.

Not sure if this is a bug or not, but my save files are not there anymore. So I'm going to stop playing because if I'm not even sure if my save works, what's the point.

Even for fans of the series, it's just bad. DO NOT GET IT unless it's on sale with a good discount. Why, you may ask? 1. The English translation is AWFUL. Even the "engrish" of the previous games looks polished compared to this. It's like they ran it through a worse version of Google Translate and didn't look at it afterwards. Some dialog options don't make any sense, and some bits of text are even missing altogether. I am convinced that no human had any hand in the process whatsoever. I have no idea if the Japanese settings are an improvement. 2. It starts out as a fairly small window, and trying to make it anything close to fullscreen is a struggle. So you're squinting at a poor translation in a small box, basically. 3. I don't really think about what the kid looks like in those other games, but this one is creepy. She looks like one of those over-cute toddler dolls that had its hair chopped off by a 4 year old with safety scissors. If someone gave me a doll that looked like this, I would douse it in holy water and salt and burn it. 4. The gameplay is incredibly slow. You can fit four activities (including class) in a day for 6 days, and you have to click through each of those. It takes forever to get through just one week, and a year feels like eternity. Not to mention random things happening, and, as mentioned above, the missing dialogue that makes you have to guess at some of the choices. 5. The graphics are really basic. Not like 80s- 90s pixel basic, but cheap clipart basic. This is the 5th one- they should be stepping up their game by now. 6. The program stops randomly, and there is no autosave, meaning that it could crash and you could lose quite a bit of data, and it's a slog to get through as mentioned in point 4. Honestly, the only reason I have so many hours is because it took forever to get through the first two years, and I just want to finish it just to see the rest, since I already invested so much time in it. But you, dear reader, still have a chance. If you want to play every Princess Maker, then yes, get it, otherwise do what the game won't let you in all those annoying scenes, and skip it.

So its finally here, and in many ways, Princess Maker 5 is the best game in the series. It takes several elements of all the previous games and in general improves upon what worked well, and streamlines some of the less enjoyable aspects of the series. Not all of its innovations are complete success however, and some of these can lean more on the side of tedium. More on the good and the bad below. Pros+ +The friendship system introduced in Princess Maker 3 has been expanded on and now plays into more elaborate in game events that can have an effect on your Daughter's day to day schedule and offer you a variety of benefits in the form of items and stress relief. Male relationships can result in becoming potential love interests if you so desire. +Similiar to Princess Maker 3's mood system, Princess Maker 5 has revamped them into your daughter's actual peronsality, which can be influenced based of her upbringing. And unlike Princess Maker 3, these states are generally much less intrusive as to how you can influence your daughter's schedule. There are exceptions of course, like the rebellious, lazy, and the sick are all generally a pain to deal with. +Adventuring has returned from Princess Maker 2, but is now heavily streamlined into an automatic process which your only input is when your daughter happens across enemy encounters. Her non combat skill are also made slightly more relevant for combat purposes, but not in any major way. +Your daughter's wardrobe and physical appearance has a larger variety of different states compared to previous games, Things don't get crazy, but its nice to have more options in general. +The introduction of playing as a Mother and the ability to choose your caretakers career are nice additions and allow for a different perspective and the ability to have more control over your funds. Not a major difference, but again, nice to have. +On Sundays, you know have the option of taking your daughter out various locations in the games world, restaurants and shops are the most prominent, but you can also bump into her friends to help boost relationships and partake in various holiday events and entertainment to build stats in addition to the classic education and profession approach. Hit and Miss= =Princess Maker 5 is by far the longest game in the series, due in part to both her schedule being filled out on a weekly basis instead of monthly. Optimal play will require you to make use of visiting the various games locations. Clicking around the map to visit locations on Sundays will be something you do a lot in this game if you wish to play optimally, and the process of moving around the town isn't necssarily a fast or fun thing to do over the course of a typical playthrough. There are obvious benefits to having a longer game, but Princess Maker 5 is arguably too long for its own good. Thankfully, Town visits can be skipped if you feel so inclined and the stat gains from it can be compensated for with smart schedule planning. =Adventuring despite the improvements to combat still isn't great. Its nice to see the feature back, but it still isn't particularly engaging or fun. Most fights can be won through mindlessly using basic attacks. The Bad- -The UI for Town navigation is slow and like I mentioned above, adds a lot of needless time to Town visits, there is a lot of clicking involved. Even once you have all your favorite locations memorized on the map, the navigation doesn't ever feel great. Its a small nitpick. but its one you will likely come to notice due to the length of the game. -Maintaining your daughter's relationships with her friends can be tedious due to relationship decay over time. Don't try to actively maintain everyone your daughter meets. Pick 1-3 people you like and just roll with it. -The Localization could be better, much better actually. But you probably already knew this. With all that said, Princess Maker 5's innovations to the series are for the most part succesful and rewarding, and as long as you can devote the time to actually finish it, you should have great time with it if you are a fan of the previous games in the series.

As much as I liked Princess maker 3, it had no perfect translation but at least it was readable and wasn't hindered by small bugs that impact the gameplay. I asked for now a refund because this game deserve more polish! It has so many new features, so many new events and even a proper relationship systems... I mean hell you can even turn your daughter into an otaku, lol. So yeah, for now I will come back later if they polish a little bit more.

A repetitive, grindy raise-'em-up (this should be a genre), fifth in the series. The localization/translation is honestly really not very good at all, so don't buy it if that bothers you. It's charming and there's an insane amount of depth here, if you're willing to struggle to make sense of all the bizarre, obscure systems and the poor translation job. The art is super cute and the writing shows a lot of charm despite feeling awkward. This is definitely a niche game for a certain kind of person, though, and if you aren't that kind of person you are going to get bored quick before any of the stat-raising systems even begin to show real results or changes. It's sloooooow. Tons of replay value if you are, though, with a bunch of different classmates and folks to befriend, as well as different outcomes depending on how you raise the little lady.

UPDATE 2: The review is positive mostly because of the game itself. The translation performed by the publisher has a lot of issues some of which are just unacceptable, but it seems they started editing it bit by bit, as well as addressing bugs. Still, sentences look machine-translated (for example, subjects and objects often change places) and contain many mistakes. The only saving grace is that you can at least understand things most of the time. Check my comments after the review for more info. Princess Maker 5 is one of the games that took away my sleep when I first started playing it. So far, I have spent one and a half year in total raising the little Princess. One of the reasons for this is the new schedule system that was introduced only in the 5th game. But let me rant a bit more before I actually start reviewing the game at hand. So, when I first launched PM5 (outside of Steam), to my dismay I found out that it was untranslated. And if I was able to deal with the 4th game in the series without any problems (and it was also in Japanese), it did not mean that the 5th one would be so kind. First, there are lots of new features that require a lot of attention. Second, the plot was going by and I was losing on very important parts of the story. Third, I could not select good answers and ended up being an awful mother. It took me three months to complete the game for the first time. And, not surprisingly, I made my virtual daughter a heartless workaholic while I did not know what I was doing. Some time later I found ongoing fan translation of PM5 and was over the moon about it! Little I knew…At 35% the patch broke my saves. At 55% an OK sign started to appear every time I tried to save the game – and while I saved a lot, I started to see this stupid OK more often than any other text in the game. At 70% everything seemed to go smoothly. Until I had one of my saves crashed once again. So passed another year… The fan translation is complete now, so if you find the version made by CFK Co. unsatisfactory, then you can always switch to it.
Now finally let’s see what this game can offer us, virtual mothers and fathers:
1) Remember what I said about the new schedule system? All other games had a montly-based one, while PM5 has a schedule that should be set EVERY WEEK! This made the game so long that you will need at least several weeks of your real life to complete PM5 once (I am pretty sure about it). On the one hand, it is pretty good while you will have a lot of time to shape your daughter’s personality. On the other hand, it is a nightmare to do absolutely the same things for so long – set a schedule, live for a week, save, set a schedule, live for a week, save, set a schedule, start the week…; 2) The new relationship system is both awesome and horrendous. The good thing is that you can now see how your daughter is developing friendship or love interests over the time and you can actively influence them unless your daughter’s Independence stat is too high. But the bad thing is that the whole control system will bring you so much headache! I made a mistake once – “Let’s befriend everyone!”, I said. I did it in other games, why cannot I do it here? Nope, guys, do not even try! You have to manage your daughter interactions, and this will include remembering her friends’ schedules (yes, they have ones too), bringing her to the right place at the right time, selecting the right answers when needed, maintaining the whole friendship thing by meeting with your NPCs every week. If you do not do it, their attitude will go down and they will forget about your daughter quite fast. So that you understand the scale of this horror: I had to make a list where I wrote every place and time I could find a specific person, then every specific day I had to visit them, then whom I wanted her to marry, etc. And in the end my girl got her Independence too high and just ruined everything I did by saying “Nah, I don’t like this guy anymore and I have better things to do”. Well, at least this game can be pretty realistic, right? Oh, BTW! You can check your daughter’s relationships by asking your butler, but each time you do it, your girl will become more irritated with him. Ten times you do it and she will have a tantrum and will not be friends with Cube at all. The solution is to use save-load every time you want to check this info; 3) You can choose how your daughter will behave in many different aspects. Each month you choose her pocket money, when she returns home, what she does in her free time, how she interacts with people and many other things. This is how you influence your girl now, not only through special items and bringing her to specific places; 4) Watch closely what you daughter is doing in the room. This way you will notice slight changes in her personality and interests. For example, a sport fan will do push-ups; a lazy one will watch TV all the time; a girl who liked studying will read books; an outgoing one will chat on the phone all the time; a rebellious one can learn how to use a kendo sword, etc; 5) Lots of interesting classes and extracurricular activities for the young Princess to attend. Most of them start when she becomes a teenager, though. You have cooking, kendo, singing, dancing, drawing manga, – MANGA, Carl! MANGA! – painting, magic and occult, and lots, lots of other things! These also include helping around the house, going for a walk, and free weekends. 6) Your daughter will change over time because she will grow up. First she will be a cute little girl, then an awkward teen, then a beautiful young woman. She can also gain weight if you do not control her diet. Her eyesight can become worse and she will have to wear glasses. She can become tall or short, with a big chest or a small one, and some other differences in her appearance that I cannot remember now; 7) You can dress your daughter in many different outfits. Some will become available only when she grows up a bit, and some will make poor Cube the butler cry from shame. The girl can chose a dress herself if she becomes Independent enough or if she has some specific stats like turning into an otaku; 8) There are lots of characters to befriend or romance, as I have already mentioned. I am not sure if the girl-girl option is available, as I have never tried to find it, bit the girl-boy one is here at its full blossom. But please keep in mind, that your girl will get an opportunity to fall in love only when she grows up; 9) This time the game is set in the (almost) modern world, so there will be lots of new things for your daughter to learn about – the Internet, mobile phones, entertainment parks, etc. And many new things for you to try out. As well as many things that will make your daughter lazy, so be careful with what you buy for her!
Well, just a sum up now
I am a terrible and crazy perfectionist. If you have this trait too, you will suffer while playing this game. There are tons of things that require your attention and dozens of different endings to open, many of which depend on your final stats and interactions. You daughter can return to the kingdom and become the Queen (but you will need to choose a specific path for this and defeat the Boss); or she might prefer to stay a common girl in a common Japanese town. Or maybe she wants to marry somebody in the end? Or is there any profession that she is dreaming about? Or perhaps she is too lazy for anything? Well, there are endings for all of the abovementioned variants. Now be ready to spend half of your life getting them! Muaha-ha-ha-ha! One thing for sure: you will love Princess Maker 5 because it is a fascinating game with lots of features that will make any virtual parent squeak from happiness. It will take you months and months to try out everything that this game can offer, and this will be one of the most enjoyable periods in your life.

Today I'll be a mythbuster of how bad or good the translation is. And yes, I'm a professional translator and know a little bit of japanese, so I know what I'm saying (probably). Sooooo, is the translation of Steam's PM5 bad or not? The answer: well... it kinda is... and kinda not. You'll think: "Wait... what? How does it possible?" And I'll explain. The translation process requires to follow two important criterias. The first one - the context should be the same as in the original. So, if, for example, in japanese text Jane Doe went to the zoo, then in the english version she can't go to the aquarium. Otherwise it'll be a context failure. Does the game have this kind of translation mistakes? No! It usually doesn't, and most of the time you'll perfectly understand what's going on, and it's absolutely accurate to the original japanese text. Then what is the problem of this translation? The second criteria - the adaptation. Now, you all may know that usually languages have differences on lexical, grammatical levels etc. Japanese and English languages aren't from the same language family that's why it highly rises the need to adapt text gramatically in order to avoid weirdly shaped sentences which are absolutely normal for japanese people but sound bizarre to english speakers. The second problem of the adaptation here is that the narration takes place in Japan which is the WHOLE different culture with its terms, norms, holidays etc. Does the translation provide any cultural explanations or adaptations to english readers? Hell no. As well as it doesn't usually provide any help with structuring japanese sentences in order to make them readable to english-speaking players. By the way, if you understand even a tiny bit of vocal japanese and try to listen to what voice actors say and compare it to the translation, you'll understand that it's a freaking literal translation of japanese script. So, you'll ask me: "Is the translation bad? Should I buy/refund/drop the game out of the window?" My answer is "It depends". 1) If you're a grammar nazi who can't stand any mistakes and incorrect grammatical constructions, then no, don't buy it, otherwise your eyes will melt. 2) If you're a more neutral person but don't understand even a tiny bit how Japan and its language work, then it's up to you. The translation will ruin some part of immersion but not so much, really. I, myself, don't have any problems playing the game comfortably and roleplaying. 3) If you have some knowledge about Japan, its cultural and language references, then buy it, it'll worth your time. The daughter is cute, the gameplay is fun, and there're plenty of unique events to participate. And it's Princess maker, so it's hardcore, long and you'll probably achieve the ending you don't even want, because your perfect, smart, well-educated daughter with all max stats will become a stripper cos Princess maker logic.

First and foremost, the translation is terrible. Yeah, you can figure out most of it, but is that what you should have to do in a professional release? The issues range from simple stiff dialogue (almost everything) to bad Google Translate (daughter's journal). Some items even have a totally opposite translation ("can't wear after" when it should be "can't wear UNTIL after"). Is the game playable? Yes, completely. However, part of the charm of a daughter-raising sim is interacting with your daughter and those around her. Simply having a native English speaker edit the game script would change Princess Maker 5 from "Well, at least we got it" to "Absolutely amazing." For the game itself, it can feel too long for something with so many endings. The grind for stats is pretty extreme and the "good" endings all require the same ones (Charisma, Elegance, Attractiveness). If you miss the cut-off the first time around you'll be holding down CTRL for years of Ballet and Tea Ceremony all over again. What PM5 does well, however, is a great sense of realism in raising your daughter. Her friends get jealous over her hanging out with other kids, she proudly brings you a report card every semester, and you even have to deal with the terrible puberty phase (you'll wanna call your own parent and apologize for being 13). These little interactions are what make me actually recommend this poorly translated, sometimes buggy game. Outside of raising your own kid, this is the only way to have the ultimate parenting experience. I almost felt guilty for making her work at the bar, but those tea lessons aren't free. Hopefully updates will continue to pour in for PM5 and the experience will be improved.

    May 26, 2018

I grew up on PM2 and thoroughly enjoyed playing it again on steam. However, I cannot in good conscience recommend this title. As of 5/26/18, the translation is still terrible. It looks like a combined effort between an online translator and a person who has zero understanding of basic vocab and sentence structure of English. While context helps put things into picture, it noticibly takes away from the experience. Unlike its predecessors, I found the gameplay to be extremely slow and tedious. This isn't to say that there were no repetitive elements in the previous installments. The generic formula of fattening/strengthening your daughter early while piling up money/winning events to be splurged on lessons and items still holds true for all princess makers. The problem is that PM5 forces you to go through the schedule on a weekly basis. Once you extend the curfew, you're basically staring at the same scenes over and over again while clicking away until the dreaded Sunday arrives. At first, it will seem overwhelming due to the sheer number of options available to you in town. Fear not! Whether it's going to the same type of events year after year to reduce stress/raise an attribute or visiting certain areas to have the same conversation with a friend, this too will become mundane very quickly. The micro in this game wore me out, not because it was challenging, but because it was repetitive and boring.

    May 31, 2018

I hate doing this because I really love this game, but this is a bad localization yet again that I cannot recommend it, until the translation is polished (Which it probably won't be) and the bugs fixed. I mean, if you're not going to put any energy into localizing the game (Translating a game is more than just translating the japanese text into a language, it's about putting that and making it understandable to your language's audience), give it to someone who will. First the good: The game itself is charming and really fun, though if you played any of the other games, this is pretty easy to get the 'ultimate ending' in of the 4 I played so far. This is also a long game, this isn't like PM2 where you can just plop down, play 5-8 hours, get an ending and go off again. First end took me about 30 odd hours, mostly because the game is weekly instead of monthly like the others. The game takes place in modern day Japan rather than a medieval setting, though your daughter is from a medieval world. It's a very dark setting (This is explained in the opening movie, which isn't subtitled. ~_~;;; You can find a subtitled version on youtube, however) where all the princess candidates are killed off, except your daughter. Cube takes her away to Japan, wipes her memories of the other world, and gives her to you, a retired hero in self exile. You're given the standard 8 years and when they're up, the girl can decide to go back to her original world or live a normal life in modern Japan. Unlike previous games, you can play a father or mother this time around. There's also a ton of new stuff, like setting her weekly schedule on what she does. She MUST go to school regardless, but she can work part time, take lessons, join clubs. She has a monthly schedule that will affect her personality, how thin/fat she can get, how she thinks and interacts with people around her. You can go around the town on Sundays, wheither to visit friends, take a rest from stress, go to the movies, buy her items, etc. You also have access to a chibi form of her in her own room where she interacts with things based on what you buy for her, her own personality, and hobbies. Seriously, the game got so much more involved than previous versions that it would take me a long time to type up and even then, I have yet to uncover everything after nearly 60 hours of gameplay. It's a huge game that can keep you occupied for hours on end. Ventures are very watered down compared to PM2, you can't wander around an area anymore, but you basically go to an area, beat up some monsters, fight a boss, and boom. It's simple, but there's many ways to combat besides just swinging your sword or casting a spell. You can take away an enemy's fighting spirit by having a high dance ability or if you have a high language ability, you can talk your way out of a fight. I kinda miss PM2's little walk around, but it doesn't hurt the game. Now the bad, the localization of this game is downright awful. And this isn't counting just the translation either. The translation is awful. This is really a shame since there was a fanpatch going around before this released, which is a much better english translation. Why the heck CFK didn't get in contact with the fantranslation is beyond me. CFK was told several times to get a native english translator, and it appears they hadn't listened at all and are just fixing errors on the fly and using their customers as their beta testers. The descriptions of stats are confusing and the dialogue is riddled with stilted text along with typos and times where the kids call my daughter 'Mother' instead of her name. Also, characters are calling each other by their first name, when the audio is clearing using their last name. This game is riddled with more bugs than the fantranslation, who didn't even have a programmer, that I want to facepalm hard. Items are bugged (Items don't work, items don't raise secondary stats), Achievements are bugged (Bride achievement is not activating when I had my daughter marry Ootome in another run), text is bugged or goes out of the box, everything costs 10 times more than in the original game (I seriously don't understand this choice at all), starting the game triggers some people's virus protections, and the list goes on and on. It's a shame because Princess Maker 5 is my favorite of the Princess Maker games, the characters are charming, I enjoy the setting, and your daughter is super cute. But a bad localization can destroy a good game. This is a perfect example of it yet again, like Princess Maker 3. Though unlike Princess Maker 3, CFK is trying, but honestly, if you're not going to put in effort in the first place, then give it to someone who will. This is already a niche series, all you're going to do with laziness like this is turn off people who may want to get into it and drive people who are fans up the wall. ~_~;; If this translation does get polished and the bugs fixed, I'll change it, but right now, I'd say buy the Japanese version and use the fan translation.
