  TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THE DEVELOPER: (Q)uestion: Is Lust From Beyond: M Edition a completely new game? (A)nswer: It is a new version of Lust from Beyond. It’s a game with the same story and gameplay, but with less focus on the explicit content. Q: Why did you make this version of the game? A: We’ve put a lot of heart into our game and we wanted to enable more gamers to play it. By default, Adult Only games are unavailable in some markets, like Germany and China. They are also hidden on Steam to everyone unless you manually enable Adult Only titles in your settings. Besides, Lust from Beyond isn’t gratuitous. Its elements serve to tell the story and invoke certain feelings or thoughts in the players. At heart, it’s a Lovecraftian horror touching upon themes like curiosity, physicality or lust. It’s an immersive story-driven survival horror first, with explicit parts being a cherry on top. It can easily stand on its own without the most extreme elements, so we decided to make it more accessible for the players who look for a more subtle experience. However, you’ll still find plenty of horror visuals in it! Q: What is the difference between Lust From Beyond and the M Edition? A: There are a couple of differences. Nudity and explicit sexual content have been reduced. Example: private parts are tastefully covered by a piece of clothing (that’s still very much cultish and aligned with the themes of the game). Some scenes have been rearranged to keep their meaning but reduce the explicit factor. Example: an orgy became a ritual cult meeting. Some animations, scene framing and models have been changed to meet the Mature rating requirements instead of Adult Only. Q: What does M stand for? A: M means the M (Mature) rating, but there’s more to it! At first, we wanted to call it Masked Edition, since we tastefully covered some of the elements of the game. Also, Amanda’s mask is one of the most visually distinct elements of our world. But we went for M, because it’s such an appropriate letter. It stands for Mask, Mystery, Mature... It sounded just right. Q: Which version of Lust from Beyond should I play? A: They are the same game, just presented slightly differently. If you like horror for the mystery, narrative and atmosphere, but don’t care that much for extremely shocking images, then the M Edition is the right choice. It’s what you’d expect from a strong horror game. If you like your horror as hardcore as possible, then you can try the unrated version of the game. We hope this shines more light on what’s to come.   I was captivated by the game's creepy atmosphere, interesting art direction, and excellent locations. The plot is very engaging, and the characters we meet on our way are terrifying. I strongly recommend it to every horror fan.

  A great Valentine's Day game! You go to a hotel, there's romance, then she lets you know her better and you end up in hell. Just like my last Valentine's.

  A good-looking and balanced mashup of an adventure game and an action horror. Immersive, with a surprisingly good story that manages to stay engaging even without all the sax & violins of the original. It's an all-around high-quality game and a good example of an indie project with its own personality, made because someone had a vision.

  This game has range. Horrors, just like actors, need range. You can's just jump-scare me for 10th straight because it gets old fast. No, you need to mix it up. Remember how Silent Hill was really calm for a long time, hen it was about things jumping out of the fog, then it was heavy metal different reality, then you were observed and followed? You need range and this game has it. It Uses all the tricks in the book. Shadowy stuff. Gore. Threats. Otherworld stuff. Jump scares too, rather sparesly. I cann appreciate a good horror game. This is one.

  This game combines my two favourite things: Lovecraft and tits. Graphics are very nice and the story is intriguing. “Lust” will suck you in to the point where you overlook some minor rusty elements! Great value for money!

  I think it's fun, kind of scary and intresting story. It's like cross between Alien (Ripley Scot) + Lovecraft. I Enjoyed it.

  TL;DR Very good story based game with fantastic sound design and atmosphere. Some minor bugs but nothing that would make it unplayable. Get it if you want a cool cult Lovecraftian story game. The game is really great. The devs made a detailed and interesting world which tells its story without just lore dumping you in form of letters, books and diaries. Really good in terms of show not tell. The atmosphere is creepy and it's fun to go and explore the scenes. The visuals are fantastic, even on lower settings (see below). The story and storytelling is really the strong suite here. It feels like every choice was made to enhance that experience. The reuse of scenes is well executed. You often return to the same locations but every time you can access different areas which makes it fun to explore every time. It also gives you the opportunity to collect everything you missed the last time. So plus points are (not ranked): + story and storytelling, from start to finish + atmosphere + music, sound, voice acting!! + graphics + feels fair (solvable puzzles, easy combat and sneaking) + few well placed jump scares I have just minor issues with the game: - the performance was really bad on high settings but this might be because I play on Linux with Proton. Medium Texture Quality and Low Shadow quality fixed it to be at least playable - I got motion sick after a while. You can't adjust the FOV which is what I usually do to avoid this, so that is a minus for me. - The Gamepad controls feel a little sluggish especially opening and closing doors and drawers as well as navigating the menu. The chase scene was really annoying because of this reason. The controls might have contributed to the motion sickness but I am not sure. Edit: Keyboard was a bit better for me but the game continued to show gamepad controls even if the gamepad wasn't even plugged in. - The game has some issues with weird lighting (light suddenly turns off, light bleeds through walls) but it isn't so bad that it would be problematic. - The No Quick-Time-Event setting is not honored after a reload but can be fixed by toggeling it on and off again. There are also not many QTEs so you won't even notice most of the time. - Combat is probably the weakest point of the game. It is slow and kind of clunky. However, you should avoid combat at any time you could anyway. The few times where you have to fight, it is totally fair. No insta-kills, the enemies are easy to predict and die fast. When you get a gun, ammo is basically a non-issue. The devs probably know combat is not their strong suit and took measures so it isn't frustrating. Tbh, a better fighting skill would also be out of place because the main character is an antiquarian. You wouldn't assume him to be good at fighting.

  I'm not a fan of explicit content in games, I almost always find it cringe worthy, so I was super happy to hear that this game got an "M" edition, because when you strip it down to it's essence, it's simply a pretty good adventure horror game, totally on it's own.
