First off, this game is for hardcore Lucius fans only… Why, you may ask? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As requested; update Dec. 20: The good thing is that in terms of story and gameplay Lucius 3 is getting back to its origin/roots. Back in the town of Winter Hill (where you spent the first six years of your life), you (in your role as antichrist) have to track down the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. To do this, you roam the open game world, search homes for clues, (revile/investigate the past and secrets) talk to inhabitants and ultimately kill them. This means that you have to work out a killing sequence through personal research and solving some puzzles. In addition/optional you can apply this to other, non-main story related characters as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is buggy/laggy with awful/outdated graphics (incl. frame drops). Some bug details: Characters floating in the air, or stuck in the ground. Main quest items can be collected repeatedly and I had at least one game-breaking bug (couldn’t interact with an object) and had to restart this chapter. On the bright side: - open world with many locations to discover/explore - 1 tutorial and 7 main chapters - turn into a raven and fly around the town - good music, sound, voice acting and cutscenes (overall) - interesting and engaging storyline/dialogues and narrative - fair level of difficulty and easy puzzles (+ easy achievements) - a couple of side quests; you can kill almost all characters, collect "Bobbleheads" - wickedly funny - two endings - min. 6-8 hours of gameplay Lucius is back, let’s get ready to rumble! However, love it or hate it. Hell Yeah! Screenshot added: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1591339035

Everygame has there ups and downs upon release date But i shall still stand by the Whole Series as it really enjoyable to play Pros: - I hardly see a Developer Listen to all the Feedback about there game as much and this one - Open World - More Places to Explore - fast travelling - new Kills - Bubbleheads "to keep you Busy" - Better Inventory Management - Bird travelling Cons: - The bird becomes near enough Useless after finding all Fast travel locations "but can become useful in some places" - Lack of people walking around or driving around making it Ghost town - Save File needs improvements "I would like to be able to Manually save myself" - one place is buggy for me and that is the morgans family house, but The Dev Team are aware of these and Fixing it BIG CONS Where Is The Tricycle I demand a Tricycle please and thank you (^_^)

The current state of this game means it will really only be enjoyable to diehard Lucius fans right now. It's not totally unplayable and I have got some fun out of it, but it's a clunky, bug-ridden mess that should never have been released in its curent form. Good points about the game are the same as for the previous two games in the franchise: the storyline is awesome, it's incredibly fun playing the Antichrist, and the kills are pretty inventive (if convoluted). They're also merciless: child characters are among the killable. That's where the good ends. The game is so full of bugs right now it sucks all enjoyment from the game. It's a constant stream of storylines/scenes not triggering when they should, or triggering when they shouldn't, collectibles respawning when they're not supposed to, bizzarely absent sound effects and music, missing character models or hilarious clipping problems, and terrible lighting. There's a thread of 200 posts in the forum just dealing with the bugs, and although a dev is responding, it's a bit lacklustre. The main problem, though, is that they tried to be "open world" - they may market the game as such, but it really isn't. It's a very linear storyline where you have to do things in a certain order. But because they allow you to explore freely, this sets you up for all sorts of issues as the game doesn't prevent you from doing things in the WRONG order, meaning you can mess up plots without realising it and accidentally cut yourself off from huge swathes of the storyline. This last point, to me, is unforgivable and I'm not sure it can be fixed as it's a problem with the format of the game itself. The devs really should have just ditched the open world concept and made the game a little more restrictive in order to preserve the story (which, as I say, is good but is ruined by a constant fear of messing up in the game).

It's a rough game for 2018 and I wish they would have either had him older or go back to the series roots with a single location as clearly open world is too much for the size of team. The voice acting and animations are good though and the locations look good but clipping can be an issue a lot along with some lighting bugs occasionally otherwise it is better than the previous installment.

Serious gfx issues, almost all areas in shade or inside buildings are just completely black making it impossible to see anything. I can deal with the bugs and minor glitches (of which there are many) But not being able to see anything even on maximum brightness settings is a killer. As I mentioned there are also MANY bugs and glitches - Clunky movement, Awful animations Objects sticking out of walls, Objects visible through walls, Things interactable through walls, Characters clipping into walls/floors and each other, Various sound issues and voice's stopping mid speech or clipping over other sound cues. And this is after just 2 hours of play no doubt there are more. The game feels like it was rushed into release far to early to meet the christmas deadline. Hopefully they can salvage some of it from the wreckage with future patches.

+ Thank god, it's over + Soundtrack + Made me want to replay Lucius 1 again + Open world.. - ..which has not much to do - All the way unfinished - Buggy - Constantly unstable I might need to protect my soul for this, but I would never ever never ever ever recommend Lucius III. I think that this should be called as a cash cow. It's just terrible - I can't believe that this game was done by the same team that made Lucius 1 which is an absolute classic. This however doesn't seem to have any single feature that could get a proper grade, everything from graphics to the gameplay feels unfinished. People going through doors, people sinking through the ground, constant stability issues with freezes and crashes, buggy animations, tumors in a storytelling.. soundtrack is delighting, but hell, I have played solider early access games! If I should give a grade for each Lucius game arranged in release dates, it'd be Lucius 1 - Good, Lucius 2 - Ugly, Lucius Demake - WTF! and Lucius 3 - Bad and Bad in its worst kind of way. Many gamers already were mad about Lucius 2, but I found it's new ideas crude but still somewhat crazily delicious, but this however is just trying to create something highly spectacular and giving barely one percent of the needed effort. I frankly wished that the trilogy would have had better conclusion, but unfortunately it was not meant to be. Even the most potential plot patterns are just paper ready to be turned to ashes when the story rushes itself to its torn conclusion. I am still compassionate towards developers, which tried to wrap the series up and write the ending for the son of the Devil, but I think that the ambition (which existed sometimes in a story) did underestimate the realities. I hope that this was the last Lucius game ever - may he reign in hell in peace.. and like the song goes "oh mother tell your children, not to do what I have done.."

Sigh... No. Just no. As a Lucius fan I wanted to like this game and I'm more than happy to overlook most levels of jank and minor flaws. I'd read the reviews, I had low expectations and I was willing to enjoy it. Animations not triggering, getting stuck in the ground, people walking through fences... I'm fine with all that. From what I've seen, the story seems interesting. The animations are goofy, the characters oddballs, and everything has a feel of a C-Movie but I'm genuinely interested in seeing everything unfold. But I wasn't ready for the sheer number of crashes. In under two hours, I've had seven crashes including one that froze my entire windows and needed a hard reset. It was a downright uncomfortable experience to play because every time it paused to load another cutscene my heart would stop "Did it crash again?" There is potential here, and I'm probably going to try to put more time into this and get to experience the whole game. But as for whether I'd recommend the game to ANYONE I'd say "No."

It's not a Lucius game if it isn't rushed, bugged and broken. And somehow I think it actually suits the game. I had a blast playing the first 2! And I bought this one expecting nothing more, just wonky animations and bugs. It's a small Indie dev after all. But I was very pleased to see it is officially almost semi-open world and the graphics and animations improved a lot. Congratulations! HOWEVER! I'm disappointed they removed the HUD and the freedom to select between superpowers so we can get creative with our kills, like in the previous games. Instead, now you just click and hold with left mouse and it does what it does. That just killed it for me which is why I don't recommend this one unfortunately.
Information / Review English
Lucius III is an Action adventure from the Finnish developer Shiver Games, which was developed in 2018.
Prehistory
Lucius, born on June 6, 1966, is the son of the devil. On his sixth birthday, his father revealed himself to him. On his behalf, Lucius killed his entire family including domestic staff in the first part. At the end of the game, the boy burned down his parents' house and was taken to a mental hospital.
Gameplay / Story
Back in the familiar town of Winter Hill, you have to track down the four horsemen of the apocalyptic in the role of Lucius - the relatively newly hatched Antichrist - and thus find your true destiny. To do this, you roam (initially linear) the moderately large, open game world, search houses for clues, talk to the not entirely kosher residents of Winter Hills (one of them is a pedophile), and finally kill them. That sounds fun, unless you are too strict about morals in video games, but it is only conditional. Because in Lucius III killing takes place in the “best” adventure manner, which means that you have to work out a killing sequence through personal research and solving a few puzzles. The game's biggest weakness, however, is the storage system mentioned at the beginning. In Lucius III there is neither free saving nor saving points nor Save & Exit; is currently only saved after a chapter has ended.
Pro
+ interesting art design in the cutscenes + many references to classic and modern horror films + good puzzles that are important to start the murder trial + atmospheric soundtrack + Achievements and trading cards
Contra
- weak story - bad AI - Saving is only possible after completing a chapter
Conclusion
Lucius III offers you a solid conclusion to the trilogy that will cast a spell over you for a few hours. I would wait for a sale to buy the game though.
Information / Review Deutsch
The Devil's Son or the Angel's Advocate?
Before I played the game I was highly aware that the game was bugged but I dedicatedly finished the previous games and was curious on what would happen next. So risking my sanity and fear of bugs I started the game and was able to complete it while getting all achievements in the end. In this game you follow the boy-devil in his brutal expeditions in completing the final assignment put to him by his notorious father. But would this final adventure make him the real devil or would it cleanse his soul? That is up to you to decide. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1976017596 Story Possibly one of the things that is fascinating about the game is the story. The story is combined with the legend of the the four horsemen which signifies the coming apocolpyse. Lucius returns to his hometown and has the full opportunity to explore his neighborhood which was forbidden to him when he was young. You meet all sorts of characters with their own background stories which you can get involved, cause the deaths of them or spare them if you wish. There are significant more locations to explore than in any other previous games which I was very happy about. When you collect or read notes etc, you will find interesting facts about Lucius and his past. There are several endings to this game depending on your actions which are pretty self-explanatory in the achievements. I think contrary to the previous games this one is very dark and brutal in nature. I basically skipped all the death scenes the second time I played for achievements. Characters This is also the second fascinating aspect to the story. All hands down my favorite character will always be Lucius. This boy is basically everything. He does not speak a single word but from the journal you can tell everything about him. I like how in this game he is portrayed as less evil and having some sort of sentiment towards others. Because, to be frankly honest, this boy is just innocent. Sure, he kills a lot of people but he is still following orders which are designated to him. If you disobey them you still have to die. And who can escape the devil? It reminds me of those child soldier cases in war. The other characters are either evil or good. The evil ones have background accounts to pedophilia, complicated past trauma that is turned into psychopathy, bullying, infidelity, greed (basically the all seven sins are there). The innocent characters are not spared because hey this is the nature of this game- pretty brutal. Gabriel is also a very important character which I do not want to explain more because spoilers. McGuffin is a very supportive character who is pitiful but I liked the bond Lucius and he develops. SO yes the characterization is pretty epic in the game. Gameplay This is one worse aspect of the game. The game is heavily bugged, does not follow logic at some instances at all. Did not prevent me from completing the game- I could just be lucky or patient I guess. There are simple puzzles which you need to solve- it does not require 2 brain cells. Lucius's powers are mainly very simple and you just have to focus and do it. In previous games you were able to specifically choose from many powers on what you have to do, you had a choice so it was more fun. You also basically walks around a hell lot in the first chapter - but you can use the birds as well. The map also gives fast travel which is good but you need to discover the locations first. Lot of tomb raiding was around which is absolutely not necessary for the game. (Like in the last level where you have to jump from platform to platform and tutorial too) You can collect objects but sometimes they do not register into the inventory (like bobbleheads) etc. Graphics and Music The other worse aspect. The graphics were super dark, I have to basically increase the brightness everytime I start the game. There is low fps on certain areas and the game takes a lot of time to load - sometimes elements don't load properly. (I play ffxv and it plays smoother than this on my system) Maybe installing it on an SSD would do - but I did not bother to test. Music is average, not super good but suits the atmosphere. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1977739301 Achievements The achievements are not that hard, some can be obtained easily. The bobbleheads respawn most of the time so you can collect them as much as you want (lol). I was actually expecting a reward after collecting 66 if those dolls but no cake for me. I was also not able to go to the Halloween party thing for some reason, I am not sure whether it is a bug or not (easter egg of some sort?)But I had white pyjamas, read the flyer and went there twice but the door was closed for me :( Overall If you enjoyed the previous games, then it is obvious that you need to play this. If you are a newbie, it does not matter. You can still enjoy the beauty of the horror and gore with a pinch of bugs that Shiver games have offered in this sequel.
