  This is a really funny visual novel that doesn't take itself seriously. It's unique and different from any other visual novel I've played before. The character designs are very nice and the soundtrack is amazing too. However, sometimes I wasn't very familiar with the references that some of the jokes seemed to be referring to. Regardless, reading this visual novel often left me in a pretty good mood. I recommend this visual novel if you enjoy silly humour.

  The game has an interesting J-pop style soundtrack and very well drawn sprites. Aside from that, The story is so terrible to follow that I felt my IQ dropping by the dialogue line. In particular, the main character seems to have the mental capcity of a hyperactive developmentally challenged 6 year old. I could not even make it to the pooint of choosing a heroine route, as I began to self-fantasize each and every one of the entitled rich kids experiencing horrible events that would crush their souls before eventually ending their lives. 0/10 and am seeking a refund for the unfortunate hours of my life I spent trying to get to something worthwile in this game. Ideally, I would like to choke the development team out of the time they made me waste on this very pretty dumpster fire.

  This is a hard one to review. It marks the second ever negative review I have given a VN. First the pros: The art is great! The characters are beautiful, despite the occasional "Popeye the sailor man" forearms. A lot of detail was put into their eyes and hair, which are the two parts that can make or break a character's looks. Now the cons: Incredibly boring story! In fact, non-existent story. I'm no stranger to the slice of life genre. But Lamunation fails to even be that. The story can be summed up like this: Group of rich kids clown around for a while, then have sex. That's it. The characters are extremely boring and idiotic, ESPECIALLY the unvoiced male character, who acts like a 5 year old the whole time, no exaggeration! The sprites are overly reused, no animations, and even the music is out of place. With most VN's, if nothing else you still have that Japanese familiarity.... Japanese setting, Japanese customs, etc.. But with this story it's like they are in some fantasy town where everyone is happy and giddy and rich, and your biggest worry is what you are going to entertain yourself with that day. This experience left me with a sense of loss... of the time I spent reading it. And the attractive characters don't nearly make up for it.

  I couldn't believe that a game originally released in 2016 would lack basic features like replaying / going back to previous dialogue lines. Also you can't change the window resolution. So I got the trial version of LAMUNATION (NOT international), and I'm surprised that the original Japanese game actually has a proper system, with more detailed display settings, audio settings, dialogue replay, etc. And this "international" edition was released in 2019, without the basic features, having just a "minimalist" UI and terrible gameplay experience.

  If you don't know Japanese, this is the only version you can play. I'd just like to mention a few things: -This game has a rather special type of humor, and it doesn't ease you in. The doujin works would do a good job there, but aren't translated. Without them, the characters will probably be rather weird to you. Some reviews mention toilet humor, but it's more that they really don't have any reserve about openly talking about the human needs. This is deliberate, because of how usual "moege" try to act as if the girls don't ever poop and are completely pure beings. These here are not. Very much not. They are literally implied to have lots of.. let's say very close body contact with each other, which might also rub some the wrong way. Very bisexual. Very not pure. This writer never did characters that aren't bi or gay, as far as I know. -This game takes place after the doujin works. Things established there are still very much considered established here. A good chunk of fun is coming back, rather than starting here. -I'd consider a good chunk of this game to be untranslatable, due to language related comedy. A translation will no doubt be a rather different experience. Not necessarily bad, just different. (I haven't tried English or Chinese.. the latter I don't even understand) It's a good game, if you know Japanese and are open to a rather different experience than typical moege. It can be very refreshing. And it could also be fun enough for an English or Chinese audience. But I know how many people don't like localization of especially comedy (funny, because it's necessary there), so it's hard to recommend. I chose not recommended largely because of all the technical issues this has on top of it. If you know Japanese, the original release is the way to go. For a better experience I recommend to read the three doujin games by the writer before as well. The international version has plenty of shortcomings: -Split lines for localization reasons, which regardless of language being played will make the experience feel weird, as the voice lines are much longer than what's in the text box -Missing voices -Swapped voices (basically the wrong voice line is played, while the one that should've played plays when the previously wrongly played one should play) -Very high cpu usage (30? times the original) Can be an issue on weak laptops and looks like a bug -backlog without voice replay or backlog jump. In exchange you get voice replay during normal play. -Achievements may or may not work. Finished the prologue, but achievement is missing -Need a patch to get the full version, which will crash the game if no save exists yet. (need to start game once before dropping the patch into the folder) And that's just the prologue, of ~1 hour. So yeah. You can try it, especially because it's cheap, but expect some shortcomings. And make sure you know what you get yourself into. The refund time SHOULD be enough to get an idea. I like what this writer does, but it's definitely not for everyone, and it's hard to recommend this version.

  This title is a medium length romantic-comedy (mostly comedy rather than romance) linear visual novel, there are 3 selectable routes/scenarios + prologue & after story. After completing prologue, you are free to choose any one of 3 linear routes that you wish to read, unlike dialogue-choice based with branching routes that common in most VN, after you select the route you can just sit back and watch (or read) with little to no interaction, just like a Kinetic Novel. Each routes are about 8 hours long depends on your reading speed or whether or not you enjoy the [i]"moments"[/i]. So you can expect about 25 hours if you want to see all of them. It took me 29 hours to see all of them, and I'm not a fast reader. If you decided to play this, I recommend you to play in this following order: New Game (Prologue), Lamune's route, Twins route, Corona's route, and then After Story. Because Corona's route has major spoiler to the other 2 routes. [h1]Positive Points:[/h1] - Cute & colorful arts, and heroines with gorgeous hair. I like this kind hair, please don't judge! - Wide variety of characters personality, especially Iris, she has the most colorful personality in this title. Also every characters are easily lovable, including the protagonist (or maybe I'm in gay with him). - Voiced main characters, side characters, and narrator except the protagonist. But again, Iris has the most colorful voice in this title, definitely a top VA. - Light-hearted story, full of comedy including occasional shimoneta/dirty jokes, pop culture reference, and fourth wall break. There is no bad ending, so you can relax. - Top quality translation, I am also surprised by how many Japanese jokes/wordplay that can be translated into English (even though some of them are using equivalent/alternative jokes). - CGs unlock & H-scene replay option, but that would be spoiler, better not touch it. - Free "optional" R18 patch. - Relatively cheap for a good quality VN. [h1]Neutral Points:[/h1] - Mosaic censorship, but it's expected from Japanese games, so I don't really mind it. (You can say that I'm used to it) - Can't continue/skip with spacebar & no controller support. (Joy2key again). [h1]Negative Points:[/h1] - Minor UI glitches (glitched sprites, offset background, bugged save slot thumbnail) - A few untranslated words. - Quick-save overwrite confirmation (like, is it really needed when you have manual save?). [h1]Contentment Score:[/h1] [b]And finally, for [i]"how much I like this game score"[/i], I'd give 4/5[/b] – I like it!

  This is Memes the Visual Novel. It's one of the best modern visual novels I've seen this year for sure, and I'm glad that I've picked it up right away, even if a little bit of dignity withers away in the process. I was originally thinking of getting a visual novel, reading it for two weeks, and then turning it in for a refund, but dang, looks like I'm not doing that. Sure I'll eventually forget this over time, but the content, man! It's worth it. Because that it is filled with a lot of comedy, just don't take it seriously or you'll be hurting from a story with basically no flow. A lot of these jokes are pretty heavy on being not safe for work, but that's not a problem since Lamunation's patch is literally free. Not to mention, the price is an absolute steal for a visual novel; this costs less than half of so many worthwhile visual novels that aren't free, with voice actors, good art, not localized and well made translations (you would think the translation barrier would get you, but I'm pretty sure that the losses were hardly prevalent, if at all). There are two downsides I can think of, however: the UI (particularly for aesthetics) is questionable and not being able to make a whole lot memorable out of it. but you know what? this is damn good at what it does, and with free h scenes (like 12-18 of them) it's a better deal than what most will give you. I would be hard pressed to find a vn that is not nearly as fan fulfilling with the same price tag, assuming that there is one... (except for the real yu-no. because it's so free it's illegal). 69/10 would fuck some soda again
