I do recommend it, but I have very mixed feelings about this game. Let me explain: I haven't put that much time into it yet, but there are some things which you will notice right away.: Your staff works around the clock and there is no schedule, no opening times and not even any restrooms. Now, for a restaurant managing game, I think that is unacceptable. It just doesn't make sense to me why the developers wouldn't add those things which are essential to any restaurant. That being said, I did have a lot of fun making recipes and will probably keep playing this game for that reason alone. So, I do recommend this game, but not as a restaurant simulator because it lacks essential parts of running a restaurant. The game is very casual and the focus is on the recipes, which they did a pretty good job at. You should really look into the content of this game before buying it because if you are expecting a realistic restaurant simulation you will be disappointed.
Meh
The good: * It's a restaurant management game. It's not like there's many out there. * 3D style is simplistic, but functional. * Recipe editor feels fun for a short time * It has at least some basic elements of a tycoon game. * Music is cute * Humor is really hilarious here and there (but that's only in text) The bad: * UI design is pretty abysmal, especially if it comes to colors. Feels like artist was colorblind. * "Tycoon" part is still nearly non-existent. How do you make a game about managing a restaurant and have nearly no content about managing a restaurant? Sure, you can hire people and place tables/decorations. And make recipes and put stuff into menu. But that's basically all. Well, I can place tables in The Sims game. And yet do 999999 other things. I really don't get it. You have toilet cleaning policies. Yet you have no toilets. You have cleaning policies, yet, no-one actually cleans anything. You have a kitchen but no refrigerator or a freezer. You use ingredients, but they magically end up in the hands of your chef. You use plates, but they come and go into the thin air. Nearly nothing is really simulated, so nearly nothing matters. Everything is insanely stiff and minimal, you'll never see a waiter slip and fall or whatever. Pizza Tycoon (aka Pizza Connection), a predecessor to all restaurant-building games from 1994 was 7MB and somehow had 7000 times the content and depth of Chef. You could talk to customers, rent a warehouse, manage ingredient contracts, had a very visual recipe creator, troubles with mafia, contests, conflicts, trends, loans and insurance, authorities and "authorities", worker stats, accidents and trouble, and million billion other things. How come modern idea of a tycoon game is basically idle clicker that fits better on a mobile game? What happened? What a disappointment.

This game generally keeps me entertained for a while, however, the lack of challenges once you've managed to get your restaurant off the ground makes the game a little boring after a while because there is nothing left to do. There are no challenges like customers wanting to send food back, or big groups of people booking for a function. You end up just watching your well oiled machine of a restaurant run day in and day out without having to lift a finger.

I am a fan of business sims. I REALLY liked this game for the first few hours of game play. It has real potential and as more is added it 'COULD' turn into a real gem. For me, the one big thing that prevents me from giving it a thumbs up (and I'm hoping this feedback will be read and taken seriously) is that the progression (things you unlock and improve) don't really change any of the game play. Meaning after the first couple hours it's just more of the same forever. There are TONS of ingredients to unlock and improve on... BUT if you get a small selection of ingredients that jive well together you can make good recipes without unlocking very many. There are lots of skills for your workers to unlock, but they mostly just make your recipes better quality or help them work a little faster. So overall, the first hours of the game are amazing. You get to pick your furniture and design your layout. You can completely customize your menu. But once you've played for a couple hours and unlocked a handful or ingredients it becomes super repetitive and you stop seeing real incentive to unlock more things or continue playing. I did enjoy that it's not super easy to make money. A lot of tycoon style games make it almost impossible to go broke. This one makes you work a bit at the beginning to balance prices and turn a profit. But again, there isn't enough interesting content to make me want to keep playing it. What seems to be the intended draw to keep pushing on is that you can try to focus on different demographics and customize your decor and menu to draw them in. That didn't appeal to me at all (maybe it's just me). I will come back to it down the road and possibly change to an upvote. It was really fun at first. It just wore down to repetition way too soon IMO.

It's not a tycoon game. It may still be what you're looking for, but it's definitely not a tycoon game. (Or at best maybe 'tycoon lite') I wouldnt even call it a restaurant management game. You get to do lite setup, decorations, adding tables, but the core focus of the game is largely to create and customise a menu, matching it to an array of cohorts (cheapskate, office worker, that kind of thing). Closest thing to tycoon/management is setting a pricing strategy in relation to your dishes. Anyway, it feels like a very threadbare experience to me, just wanted to highlight for potential purchasers: - it's a pretty/cute game - there are no amenities like toilets - no wait counter or greeting counters or fast-food type setup - (so restaurant consists of three zones - kitchen, dining area, outside) - staff happiness and needs are very simplified/lite - No pizza ?!?! So yeah, I refunded my purchase, game felt like a hollow possibility, I couldn't imagine having fun playing it for any real stretch, waaay too limited in every respect.

I read the reviews good/ bad and still decided to give it a try. I purchased this over a year ago. It was okay. Making the food was cool. Designs don't have that many options. There is no goals, food themes. It's just a horde of mess. Nothing has changed, and I don't even play it anymore. The only updates are putting it in different languages. I recommend wait until you see more updates out of the dev until then I wouldn't waste your time.

The game is fun. If you liked restaurant empire back in the day, this is probably the closest you can get to a 'new' version. However, I cannot recommend at the current level of content for it's given price point. You can easily do everything possible within 6 hours of playtime. Needs much more content or should be priced under $10. Other minor gripes would be countless bugs, unintuitive recipe editor that is more just a mix and match simulator, and lack of an actual management aspect other than setting prices, menu, and hiring. Very simplistic and by the time you have progressed through everything, there is no incentive to continue playing.

I bought this game over a year ago in early access and the creators have done practically nothing to enhance the game. The basic are there. The development company worked out a lot of the bugs regarding tables, moving customers, etc.. but they have done NOTHING to finesse the game and make it more playable. Here are my recommendations: -Morale is extremely hard to get back from staff so there should be some way to increase it *other* than forcing me to raise their salaries (which goes against the way you set up early game... save on costs!) -There is a magic number of say, 90/100 with any recipe at the beginning of the game. No explanation why it is capped. -There are no quests and the Decisions have no follow-up, you see no evident result. They mean nothing. -The only way to *not* go bankrupt is to have practically or NO clean-up or extras. There is no reason. There is no middle ground, it's either customers complaining of toilet smells (and there are no toilets, btw) or sanitation at the tables. So it's either "go broke" or have a very basic cleaning regime. -The game really does force you into starting the game trying to make the Cheapskates happy. There is no alternative, really. Why should one little change in a wall decoration (modern) to a small rug (rustic) make the difference between a 3 star and a 5 star review from the customer. Absolutely ridiculous. Hope this helps. Neat game. Wish I hadn't bought it honestly (not really fun) but hoping "yet". I recommend you putting it in your wishlist and keep a lookout for future additions to the game first.

Not worth the price tag. After spending about 2 hours setting up your first restaurant, which now you're unable to get a refund ;) , you get to get into the "real gameplay." The meat of the game is messing with ingredients in a recipe creator menu to min-max the best recipes. (which is very easy to do). After that you literally just watch the restaurant run itself and even on max speed it takes a LONG time to get through a day. I played for half a calendar year (24 in game days) and it took me 30 hours in game to do so. After 24 in game days, I opened up my second restaurant in the largest location possible, had unlimited money and had lines out the door demanding my food and this was on "Hardcore" mode which was supposedly hard. After all this, I was hoping the game would get better but it honestly got worse. Save yourself the money, maybe get it if its under $10.
