Even though I was nearing the end of the game, I gave up on this mess. This is one of those games that uses cheap tactics to make it artificially more difficult. Just throw a ridiculous amount of enemy fire to the players, oh and make sure he gets stuck in a wall or object from time to time. The game also features an awful checkpoint system; after the many many times you die you can go watch the same unskippable cutscene with cringeworthy dialogue over and over again because why not place that checkpoint after the cutscene, before the bossfight starts? Nope, that would make way too much sense. The generic story also isn't a reason to keep playing. It is audiovisually appealing, I have to give them that. They also picked the right name for the game. That's about it. I always try to complete a game but I couldn't bare this any longer. Games are supposed to be fun, not an exercise in frustration.

At 58 years old I been a computer gamer since the beginning. I have played hundreds of FPS shooter games over the years but I can honestly say this game is definitely in the top 3. The game play and difficulty level is challenging yet not impossible and the graphics absolutely superb (and I've only got a pretty old GTX970!). I don't know an awful lot about the developers but they must have been an incredibly clever group of people! If there were an "Alien Rage 2" I would by it tomorrow without hesitation!! I genuinely can't say enough good things about this game. Play it and I'm sure you will agree. The only "slight" negative (and really, it's not a problem) is that all the worlds and locations are all "blue"). Regards, Pete

While Alien Rage isn't necessarily an awful game, I wouldn't recommend it to most people. The core shooting is solid and there's a lot that makes this game distinct, but it's haunted by unfair difficulty, a horrific perk system, and forgettable level design. This is game is a regenerating-health shooter with a two weapon limit. You've almost certainly seen games like this before, but Alien Rage has an arcadey feel to its combat. Weapons are accurate and powerful, enemies are extremely aggressive, and everything has an alt-fire. Points pop up when you gun down enemies and almost everything explodes. There's also plenty of boss fights, and almost every boss fight is completely different. You can't say that this game isn't unique among regenerating-health shooters. Unfortunately, this game is extremely artificially difficult. All enemies have the same abilities as you. In other words, enemies love to spam the assault rifle's grenade launcher and won't hesitate to magically nuke you from across the map. Enemy projectiles will blatantly pass through walls in order to kill you. They'll sometimes spawn out of thin air with no telegraph and kill you in a second. Some boss fights are prolonged and have nonsensical patterns that you need to memorize. In fact, boss difficulty is all over the place. The first boss is the hardest in the game, but the final boss is a complete joke. This game features a perk system where you unlock new abilities as you progress, but honestly, only a couple of them are worthwhile. Health upgrades are absolutely vital (which is stupid since it's about halfway into the game before you get them), and the upgraded pistol makes most of the late-game battles more tolerable. I question why a perk system is present at all when you have no reason to use most of them. The level design also leaves a lot to be desired. Most levels consist primarily of corridors. It opens up from time to time, but all that really means is that you have a wider corridor to fight in. Sometimes, you're funneled straight into tricky encounters, and are only offered one way to approach them. Cover can be unreliable (because enemy projectiles sometimes pass through it) and the best way to beat many encounters is to exploit the aggressive AI and ambush them from around a corner. For some late-game encounters, the arenas are far too open to survive without manipulating enemy spawn triggers. Is Alien Rage worth playing? That's a big "maybe" at best. It's a relatively unique experience with its arcadey gameplay and large number of bosses. However, it also happens to have some of the most artificial difficulty I've ever seen in a game. While I can't say I didn't have fun at times, there were too many painful segments and bad design choices for me to give this game a recommendation.

Not bad first person shooter at all, though it has some major flaws. + good core mechanics + price is great + nice weapons (10 total with alt. fire on all of them) + good length (14 missions) + good looking but lacks variety - absurd checkpoints system - cheap difficulty (not in a good way) - bad story which is told by audio logs you find during missions - Multiplayer is dead (servers indicates they are full but no one is there)

Bought this game on release, even though I never heard about it before, and to be honest, it was pretty poorly optimized. Bugs, inconsistent framerate issues, slowdowns, glitches - the game had it all. I gave up on it and decided to wait. Turns out it was well worth it. Developers listened to all complaints and did honorable job by fixing most of of the issues this game had at launch. Now after 3 months I fired it up and was pleased with the results. Game is not even close to being Old School FPS, that it wants to be, but it's still pretty challenging and fun to play. You got your usual stuff, machineguns, shotguns, one very overpowered pistol with unlimited ammo, few alien equalents of said guns, few perks that you can unlock by playing the game and racking up score, you can jump (even though it's only there for laughs), crouch, sprint and slide after sprinting. Graphics are nice, sounds are okay, weapons are pretty cool and have their own secondary firemode and story... well, it's there, but it's nothing special to write home about. You should definitely pick up the demo and see for yourself, but I enjoyed it alot and now that it has been pretty much patched it's pretty good. Note: Difficulty in this game is something else. I play it on normal and I had my moments when I literally wanted to rip my guts out because of the sometimes really, REALLY unfair challenges and punishing difficulty. But on the other hand, it made it so much more fun and rewarding. So if you like to torture yourself, get it now.

This game is a STEAL at it's current Halloween sale price! If you like sci-fi shooters like BulletStorm or Gears of War then get this gem! I've only played it for an hour but it's so easy to see this is an excellent value. I haven't tried multiplayer yet.. But the single player mission is more than worth the price so far. It's funny too! Not as funny as BulletStorm, but it has some cute lines. "Worker drones. They are not a threat. Ignore them." "They took our jobs." Pros: + Lovely Unreal Engine graphics (XBox360 era) + fluid character animation + Shooting feels great (esp. with Steam Controller) + Variety of sci-fi guns to pick up from the ground and fire and unfriendly aliens + Occasional sense of humor. Cons: - Some graphical glitches like being able to see the shadows of enemies above you on the ceiling - If you walk away from an audio log, you won't be able to hear it. I know this is realistic, but it doesn't make for fluid gameplay. It's pretty much Unreal Engine: The Game. C'mon.. At two dollars, you know you want it!

I wanted to like this game. It's a simple, no frills linear shooter where you kill everything that moves and blow up tons of barrels conveniently placed...well everywhere. But I can't deal with the ridiculous difficulty. There's 3 different selections to choose from with "challenging" being the easiest, except it's not. Problem is bosses do way too much damage and take you down in seconds. Over and over. I can deal with the simple shooting and dumb story but holy shit the difficulty is way too high.

This game is a just a pretty run and gun. where most games try really hard to do something different or new, something innovative (when it comes to gameplay). this game is just pretty difficult and not too heavy on story. now that sounds pretty petty. BUT, let me be clear. I like the game, it is hard, but fun. I really like the idea of a space merc that kinda runs and guns, and that society has just moved to a system of gaining points by killing enemies. oh yes, and the game VERY MUCH so feels like a multiplayer game in the way that is racking up points for putting down enemies. it is a very odd, yet rewarding feeling, and makes me think this is something that the character himself experiences. at least it is funny to think about. but makes me wonder, to an extream. why ONE MAN is able to take out literal HORDS or enemy troopers, and yet an entire troop deployment was whipped out so easy peasy when they have the same weaponry. I'm hoping it is explained later on in the game. as well something that got on my nerves quite a bit, is the lack of ability to jump over anything. I understand that in reality, people cant jump like they do in video games. . . BUT they CAN step on top of the thing that is LESS than knee height. I had a two-minute fight with a knee-high box that had bonus points on it, cause the main character couldn't take a big ol' step up there. something weird, and maybe kinda petty. when ever he is on an elevator (and it happens a lot) he will press the buttons, but ALWAYS 4* is what lights up. he always presses the same buttons, none of them are 4*. also, while at first the movie and game quotes where pretty funny, later one they feel super forced.
