It's Yu-Gi-Oh without microtransactions, every card in the game can be earned with in game currency.

Okay, I'mma leave a review primarily for the SINGLEPLAYER portion of the game. I'll assume that most of those players that want to play online have moved to Master Duel. The leaderboards on this are packed with what I assume are bots/cheaters who have given themselves a score of 99999999. This doesn't mean multiplayer is all bots - people do play this and the search function allows you to play games with a specific number of life points or other options. This review is also coming from the perspective of someone who played the card game back in the 00s and came back recently. The game is actually quite fun. Unlike many other duel simulators, this one actually has a good and very long (and I do mean VERY long, I played for about 6 hours already and am at about maybe 5% completion) campaign. It is centered around the duels from the anime - from the original series all the way up to VRAINS. This means that everything up to and including link monsters is included. You can play each duel either with a 'story deck', a pre-made deck made to be relevant to the character in the story or your own custom deck, which you put together in a deck builder out of cards you've unlocked. Once you've beaten a specific duel once, you unlock the reverse duel mode, which is essentially the story deck, but from the perspective of the opponent (eg if you played against Bakura, you get Bakura's deck this time around). These options are great as they allow you to experience many different and varied decks without having to build each of them. Great for variety. Not all of them are good (don't expect tier 0 meta even when accounting for periods and formats), but they're pretty much all fun. They're made to represent specific archetypes or playstyles, not FTK. Keep in mind you're playing against the AI in these duels. Speaking of the AI, it's generally quite competent at playing to its strong sides. Much as it pains me to say it, it even beat me a few times. Hell, maybe even more than a few, before I got some good cards. I'm sure that pro-level players will find many ways to abuse it, but it's challenging enough for fun to be had, without making it seem like it's cheating. This is also a great way to get back into the game. Starting from the first campaign, you'll be playing with the OG vanilla monsters, spells and traps from way back in noughties. Think Summoned Skull, Pot of Greed and Trap Hole. As you make progress, more and more cards and mechanics are unlocked, and the available pool of cards changes. This way, you can play the original format, then move on to synchros, xyz, pendulum, link, etc. The total amount of cards available exceeds 10,000 if I remember correctly. Cards unlocked in the singleplayer can be used in the multiplayer. This also means you aren't required to buy packs and can unlock the cards just by playing the game. They've done a good job at coding in oddball cards that do weird effects, too, so you can play with gimmick decks till your heart's content. The singleplayer content is also accompanied by short story readouts from the anime, which are supposed to explain why a certain duel is taking place (and how). While it does accomplish that, if you're someone that's interested in the story, this is perhaps the worst way to experience it. There's no voice acting and everything is abridged to under a minute of dialog per duel. Naturally, there's a skip button. The interface is easy to understand and use, but it sorely lacks some kind of a duel log. When a card effect is activated, the card flashes for about 0.000001 of a femtosecond before disappearing. If this causes some kind of combo or chain, you're going to get a series of flashes before you end up with a board that you don't recognize. Unless you know the card effects by heart you'll be scatching your head wondering what the hell just happened. Same goes for when your opponent has to show you a card - the card is shown for a fraction of a second before it is hidden. If you didn't recognize it immediately by the name or artwork - too bad. The lack of a duel log means it's impossible to retrace the steps of what actually happened. You're either there to witness it happening or you've missed out. Although the fast animation speed of card effects is good for game pacing, it's not good for understanding what is going on in complex combos that involve multiple cards you're not fimiliar with. On the other hand, summoning specific 'boss' monsters always causes an unskipable animation to play. I don't find it as bad as some other reviewers, as it really only lasts 2-3 seconds, but if you're summoning a whole bunch of 'boss' monsters constantly, it could get somewhat annoying. Something that's even more annoying is having quickplay spells or easy to activate traps set up if you're using the default settings. It is the draw phase, do you want to activate? It is the standby phase, do you want to activate? It is Main Phase 1, do you wan to activate? You just summoned a monster. Do you want to activate? Your monster activated its effect. Chain? You succeded in special summoning a monster. Do you want to activate? It is the battle phase. Do you want to activate? Your monster declared an attack. Do you want to activate? It is the battle step. Do you want to activate? It the damage step is about to start. Do you want to activate? You have entered the damage step. Do you want to activate? The battle phase is about to end. Do you want to activate? It's the End Phase. Do you want to activate? Your opponent is about to draw a card. Do you want to activate? Your opponent just drew a card. Do you want to activate? Repeat ad nauseum.. Ffs I just wanted to have Mystical Space Typhoon, leave me alone :( Seriously, if you know what you're doing go into settings and change the prompts to "pro". This requires you to understand timings, but will save your sanity by making it so you have to hold a button down for them to appear. Fair trade in my book. Ultimately, it's a very fun game for learning the different formats, getting into the game if you haven't played it before or only played it over a decade ago, or if you just wanna have fun. I'd go as far as to say the amount of content here makes this the best singleplayer yu-gi-oh experience to date. Moreover, if youre kinda worried about the price, protip - this game goes on a 75% sale once every few weeks/months. ;)

10/10 game if: - you have no friends and don't mind playing against AI (who are pretty much poorly engineered) - you like the anime and is here for nostalgia - you're watching the anime now, you could play the game side by side with the show (what i did) 1/10 game if: - you actually have sick decks and are waiting to pwn real people (online iz ded here) - you are really into the gaming graphics - you are an impatient person (summon animations are unskippable so have fun watching animations of dark magician/bewd 100 times, infinite prompts of "do you want to activate your trap card?" that will traumatise you even in your deepest sleep overall a really great game to me still :) just because i've got no friends and lots of time to spare

Yu-Gi-Oh fans of old ive got a treat for you. This game has a great deal of content for single player and if you wish to play with friends you can. its got some long campaigns for each generation of yugioh. then you can go back over and reverse duel again.. so if you think about it every campaign has double the battles. Unlocking cards just by winning battles and acquiring points. Then those points are used in a card shop to get thousands of cards. its a nice simple grind really, and for someone who doesnt have much time to play anymore I greatly appreciate that. Multiplayer works well, I really only play with friends but from my experience that works flawlessly so far. Long story long here if your a fan of the game, and dont want a pay to win yugioh game, Or some online only bs then this title is definitely a must

This must be some sort of mistake... the game is not updated to the new Master Rule, which was advertised in the trailer, and does not have the new cards which were supposed to be here. I also own the Switch version for comparison, and that one has been updated this morning and contains all the features missing from the PC version. DO NOT BUY THIS UNTIL IT'S FIXED. See photos below to back this up (left screen switch, right screen PC) https://i.imgur.com/PrxhjPa.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Kq1brvK.jpg Update 22:30pm UK time. The game has been re-uploaded with the correct card database and all advertised functions. Thanks Konami

A Yu-Gi-Oh game with no in-game purchases, a multiplayer system and doesn't run off a trust based rule system? So far, I'm in boys.

*Updated Review* (10/26/2020) I bought this game the day it was released on stream and I still enjoy it, but this is just a copy, paste, update from the first Legacy of the Duelist and they could've done so much more. The game's engine needs to be overhauled, new features desperately needed to be added into the UI, and better monster animations (also the ability to disable them). However, I understand this is just ported from the Nintendo Switch and it can't be so powerful to the point where the Switch cannot run the game but to be fair, I'm sure the game still could've been updated which left a bad taste in my mouth. With that being said, the game maintains it's best feature (That makes the purchase of the game totally worth it IMO) is the way the story introduces you to the newer mechanics of the game, which is great because returning players are often intimidated by learning them. I think the biggest problem that impacts this game is Konami's reluctance to make it a flagship Yu-Gi-Oh! game so we don't have to rely on programs like YGOpro for regular updates. Konami is seriously sleeping on a goldmine as this game will not compete with those simulators simply because the engine is too slow and they do not keep the cards/banlists updated after release which is the same problem as the first LotD game. The one thing this game provides is a diverse AI experience but falls short once you want to play with the latest cards. The banlist is also a huge issue as it is not separated from TCG/OCG and causes issues for real time play. Most challenge decks to not adhere to any banlist which defeats the purpose of play testing against competitive decks. This game has a great foundation for a flagship game but Konami just doesn't want to give us that but wants us to continue pouring money into the physical card game. Which leads me to believe the problem is finding a balance that doesn't divert people from buying physical cards while also keeping them on this game. To counter, a lot people play these games to test their decks before going to play at locals, regionals and YCS. The previous LotD game actually pushed me into getting back into the physical card game mind after over 10 years of not playing. I really don't know why Konami hasn't already done this and considering the current pandemic they could've capitalized on the fact that all tournaments are closed for what seems like for awhile. Anyways, here are my pros and cons summarized: Pros: - The story excels at introducing and familiarizing new and returning players to the new mechanics. - Great vs. Ai experience as that is the biggest takeaway from online simulators. - Updated to Master Rule 5. - Easy way to farm the cards you want (there is also a website/app that tells you were to obtain every card (The Card Hub i believe). - Specs are low enough I can run on my non-gaming laptop which kind of makes the game portable. Cons: - Copy, paste and update from the first game. Every bit of content up to Zexal is the exact same as the previous game. They could've updated most if not all challenge decks as there are new cards for each archetype since the first LotD, but they didn't. - Needs a desperate overhaul of the entire game. Updated engine, needs more options (I.E. Turn off animations), updated UI, ability to buy more than one pack at a time. I could go on. - Online suffers A LOT (at least on PC) because of online simulators. - Little to no updates. The last update was to release it on here and consoles as this was a switch exclusive prior. - No crossplay/crosssave. Could help increase the online player pool tremendously. - Banlist is terrible. Not sure if it's OCG or combination of OCG/TCG but it's not a good banlist for TCG players. - Many duelist challenge Ai decks are NOT updated to the any banlist which prevents you from getting a fair dueling experience if you're trying to adhere it. - Doesn't solve the issue of dealing with online Yu-Gi-Oh! simulators. There is little reason for competitive players to purchase this game. This is certainly a great game for new, returning, and casual players even if you did purchase the first one.

The game crashes when you get Exodiad in the campaign. Getting obliterated by Exodia never felt so real.
