  I remembered this game very fondly from the Haunted PS1 collection, so I was super happy when I received the notification of its release! I got it right away and decided to dive into it yesterday. If you're wondering how long does it take to complete, take my current timestamp (2.7 hrs) as an ideal benchmark. Really liked the visuals and overall mood, and as a professional sound designer I also enjoyed this side as well. The only sound I would personally go back to is the "sliding rope" one since it is quite clear it's duck tape (probably over some cardboard?) which found a bit distracting. Something I believe could use a bit work though are the overall animations of the stalking nemesis since they look quite "generic" and as a result were a bit detrimental to its overall scenic presence. However, it is time to just aknowledge the fact that this game is the result of the love of 2 developers who poured their heart in this and I do recommend giving Fear the Spotlight a try. There's plenty of other things I liked, such as the way you interact with items (quite reminiscent of the Wii version of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories). You might argue its length maybe doesn't have enough room to get all the narrative potential from the featured themes, but it has a proper beginning and an end which leaves nothing behind so there's not much else we could be wishing for. While I was playing this I got some Carrie (the film directed from De Palma) vibes too along something from The Missing (White Owl Studio), which I both loved. I wrote enough I guess, so my last words are going to be a big cheer to the devs and all my best wishes for a potential next project :)

  Fear the Spotlight is a perfect gateway horror game for people looking to get into the genre or people looking for a atmospheric creepy but easily accessible Survival Horror. If you've ever wanted to get into games like Resident Evil or Silent Hill but don't want to be thrown into the deep end of inventory management, limited resources and puzzles, this game will be a perfect introduction to the genre. Cannot recommend it enough.

  A lovely little old-school survival horror, with a focus on exploration, puzzles and avoiding danger. Simple, charming story, great PS1-ish aesthetics, and some moody sound design. It's "short", but it also doesn't overstay its welcome and does exactly what it intends. When I played, I lowered the wobble options just a little bit, and set it to 360p and it looked delightful. I very much enjoyed this (as stressful as it was at times) and would love to see more from the developer. 8/10

  Fun, short, indie horror game. It does have a very tense atmosphere and final boss battle. Two things I’d change to improve the game: • Get rid of the “Select an Item to Use” screen. It would be ok to have the first time you open your inventory, but it gets annoying by the end. • You should be able to skip the cut scene before the boss battle if you die. That’s just a given in 2023. Other than that, it took me 2h20m to beat. I feel the $10 price tag was justified in the end.

  A short but sweet horror indie-title which isn't too hard and can be enjoyed during a single playsession. If you're looking for something to do during a late evening and you happen to be in the mood for a spooky experience then you've found just the right game. The average playthrough time is at around 2.5-3 hours I'd say. There's only one issue which is supposedly going to be patched very soon, it's regarding the final boss and a lack of healing items during said encounter. If you're still playing on the release/unpatched version I strongly recommend keeping your health up before challenging the final boss.

  A great tribute to silent hill shattered memories (and SH in general). I loved the environments/puzzles/moment to moment gameplay but the story wast anything special. Pick it up on discount for a 2/3 hour experience.
