Cold Waters Funciones

After tracking a Soviet landing force bound for Iceland it is time to plan your attack. Do you silently close in to torpedo the landing ships and escape during the resulting chaos? Or strike with long-range missiles but risk counterattack from the enemy escorts? Have you detected them all, could another submarine be out there listening for you? Has the hunter become the hunted? Will you survive the Cold Waters?

Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.

You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

Major Features:

- Real-time naval combat

- Over 40 classes of ships and submarines all meticulously researched

- Dynamic Campaign where your performance matters

- Realistic sonar model

- Authentic Soviet combat tactics

If you want a more "realistic" expereince, get the "DOT" mod. It's an exe install and super easy. I play Uboat and SH3 (GWX mod) and have been looking for a more realistic cold war era sub game. Dangerous waters is cool, but it's a little too much of a simulator for me, and it's not. . . graphically appealing. Which does have effects on my decisions, and I don't have high standards. SH3+GWX doesn't look exactly. . . great. But, if you don't mind the more "arcadey" mechanics (they are done with a perfect balance of arcade and realism, IMO, esp w DOT mod) it's by far and away the best modern cold war era sub game. Or modern sub game in general. Not for the hardcore "sub simmer," but if you're a casual simmer or even a moderate simmer, this will do well for scratching that cold war era itch. The campaigns are dynamic, your actions and failures or victories matter. There are like 5 whole campaigns with DOT mod that are all well done and thought out to keep you entertained for serveal playthroughs. On top of that, there are dozens of premade missions that are super fun and play differnelty every time. There's nothing like knowing there are enemy subs around, they know where you're at, and you're both hunting each other, trying to stay in the right depth to catch them before they catch you, managing your cavitaiton and speed, torpedo types and settings, tactics against all the types of subs and surface ships. . . every interaction is different, every game is different, it's fantastic and I can't rec it enough if you're into this type of stuff at all. The only person I would not rec it for is the, again, hardcore sub simmer. Someone who wants to calculate everything themselves and basically run the whole ship singlehandedly. I don't mind that in a WW2 sub, but in a modern sub like this? nahhh the balance, esp with the DOT MOD, are faaaaantastic. I have around 200 hours, not 14. Not all are on steam : )

A modern cold war era sub sim. It has immersive gameplay and a good campaign and tutorial. Offers Nato campaign, the promised soviet campaign wasnt delivered and a new game (War on the Sea) came out instead. Install the Dot mod for metric system and content updates like soviet campaign. Tactical gameplay, sensors and weapons systems are really well done. Only downside is that it drops you too close to the contact (25 km is close range for modern systems) right into battle, resulting in high pressure situation from the start. Must have for submarine fans!

Its way too arcadey... Theres not enough for the guy who loves sims. Theres not enough for the guy who likes to build his own missions. Theres not enough of a tutorial. I bought it for £7.50 - Its ok for that price. Youll kill a few hours- but it gets boring real quick because its too arcadey.

Outstanding game, so much to learn. Wolfpack345's videos have been good at showing what you need to know.

Excellent modern/semi-modern naval combat game. I always find myself coming back to it. Made even better by additions like DOT Mod that make it a surprisingly good surface combat game as well. Well worth the price and a testament to the other titles by the studio.

OK graphics for a five year old game. Very clunky controls and the campaign mode is awful. In campaign mode you'll receive a mission briefing and an objective area to reach. However there's no map to orient you to when you need to go until the mission starts. By the time you find the place on the mission map where you need to go the timer expires and you failed to reach your operational area in time. Very poor design. Also once you do get to an engagement it could take HOURS to work you way undetected into a good firing position. You had better have an entire day to waste doing this because there is NO SAVE feature. That's a deal buster for me. I'm a single dad. Dad duties call at any moment, even late at night. So all my effort is lost. Not having a save feature wrecks this game. Because the the time it takes to get to firing position undetected and no save feature I have to rate this game a 0 out of 5. AVAOIS and do not waste your money. Gam eplay is fun but the no save feature makes teh game unplayable.

More of a game than a simulator, and mostly for those who are interested in cold war naval tech and rudimentary tactics. As some people already pointed out, it's not as detailed and doesn't involve micro-management as a game like U-Boat, it focusses more on positioning, the question of when to attack or evade, and shows quite accurately the technological leap the US/NATO made over the Soviets between 1968 and 1984 (the two "classic" campaigns), up to the point when playing as a US sub becomes a turkey shoot against the commies. Yes, the subs on the two sides are not balanced, because they never were balanced historically. USSR more focussed on shoot-and-scoot tactics, they were louder and generally easier to detect, but also faster and often could evade torpedoes easier cause they could go faster and deeper. US more focussed on listening first and building their situational awareness over time thanks to far superior sonar, and then positioning themselves in a way harder to detect, all the while their torps could go much further and had wire-guidance (which in terms of gameplay balance is almost like a cheat, compared to the USSR's torps, but that's just how things worked back then). The interesting thing is the acoustic model the game engine uses. It's not 100% accurate in terms of the physics involved but sufficiently accurate to simulate real scenarios, even though the sound propagation paths are a bit simplified. Also, even though a battle can easily last up to an hour depending on your play style, the acoustic conditions do not change during the battle, which is part of the arcade-y feel the game gives. Mods There are two major ones, one being "Epic Mod", and the other being "Dot Mod". The latter now being made by folks who worked on Epic Mod but decided to start their own project due to some beef I won't go into here. Both add a vast number of playable subs on both sides, plus surface vessels, giving people an idea on how much harder it is for a ship to detect a sub, than a sub detecting a sub. In general, Epic Mod increases capabilities on the USSR side, which has been met by some critics due to it not being entirely accurate. Dot Mod puts out more regular updates and is overall more balanced, from what I could find on declassified performance figures of the tech involved. Both mods add new campaigns which generally take much longer to complete than the stock ones. Overall solid recommend if you expect a not-too-serious experience. If you want some solid micro-management and still have historical aspects, you might want to check out the game called "U-Boat".

This game is only worth-it if you install the ColdWaters-DotMod from github.
