  I used to be obsessed with this game when I was 10 years old. Then our computer at the time died and I ended up losing this game forever. Or so I thought. Now 27 years old, me and a buddy were sitting around and having a few drinks and talking old obscure/not-well-known video games from our childhoods. I brought up Battle Engine Aquila, and in looking it up on YouTube, my buddy saw that it was recently added to steam. I bought it there and then via the steam app on my phone, and when I got home that night I jumped on and relived one of the fondest memories I have of my childhood, for the first time in almost 20 years. Thank you Steam for adding this little-known treasure to my library. This game will forever be a special one.

  I still have the disc for this game somewhere tucked away but when I saw it was coming to steam I just had to play it again. My initial thought replaying this game was "how was this not more popular when it launched?". It really was a great game for its time, but having checked now what other games launched at the time I can also understand why it went under the radar for most people. The other reason is just that whilst the gameplay is really good, the story, cutscenes and voice acting are pretty bad. Having said that I still recommend giving this game a try if you want some nostalgia fuel.

  In the beginning, the game is quite interesting, but it quickly drops. The first level is quite easy levels, but the secondery level is quite unbalanced and hidden behind well-completed levels. When you make a mistake, it doesn't show you where your mistake is. Or why you were wrong at all. The levels are short and pass quickly. The situation is different on the other level. Fifty percent do the same thing. And most times you have to hurry. Interesting but there is no development and most times you can easily die and in some levels there are no places to recharge. It has bugs and is not balanced at times. With a discount it is fine.

  It's a genuinely fun and, dare I say, original game with lots of love and attention put into it. You play as a transforming, arguably overpowered super-mech that can lay waste to the battlefield on land and from the air. The battles are nicely simulated and have a good sense of scale (for a game that's almost 2 decades old), and the over-the-top explosions and general mayhem is surprisingly good for stress relief. The story campaign will be your main focus in the game. Here, individual missions are graded based on your performance, so there's some form of replayability. The campaign is highlighted by several exhilarating and creative boss fights, and, though it's nothing to write home about, there's also something of a branching storyline. Oh, and don't be fooled when I say the mech you play as is overpowered; the game can get quite challenging, and even downright difficult, in the later missions. Finally, there's a huge gallery where you can unlock a racing mini-game, concept arts, unit models, and read up on some surprisingly fleshed-out lore; a good place to chill for a bit when you get too dizzy from things blowing up around you. Overall, if you can overlook the dated graphics, I'd recommend this game to anyone who loves a good sci-fi action title.

  Cant give thumbs up tilt we get proper monitor support, other then that nitpicking game is great and i would love to play it more... First things first find us a way to get a proper monitor and HD support. Also ease of abllity to mod the game would also be quite nice.

  [h1]Battle Engine Aquila is a fun game, far from perfect but still worth checking out.[/h1] [spoiler]High resolutions support fix at the end of this review.[/spoiler] I first played it on ps2 many years ago, so yeah this game holds a lot of nostalgia for me and i'm glad to see it available again on steam. Sure it's quite old by now but still definitely worth playing if you haven't already IMO. The game deliver cool and fluid ground to air combat, easily switch from mech mode to jet mode on the fly with your the Battle Engine Aquila. Satisfying gameplay, smooth controls, cool weapons to use and lot of action going on ! There's a lot of missions and many objectives, environments are varied enough to keep you entertained but yeah i'll be honest the game does get repetitive after a while. The graphics may seems outdated to some, to me it still looks alright for the most part, looks and run pretty well at 1080p on my 240hz monitor (except for the cutscenes which are still locked at 25fps). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2220895573 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2220896053 Unfortunately this steam version doesn't offer support for higher resolutions than 1280x960 by default.   A pure gem from back in the day. They don't make them how they used to! These are true battlefields, not the fake ones where everything is scripted. So the units are actually engaging each other as they would in an RTS. So if you prioritize something else than the artillery unit for example, the arty will wreck havoc among your forces, so make sure whatever else you prioritized, be it landing crafts or bombers was worth it! The videos show you the base gameplay, what they can't show you thou is how much fun this game is because of what I explained above. In most new games all the fights are fake, made to be cinematic. Here you gotta play well and make decisions and think about where you are and what to strike. Think of hte time needed to get back in time to defend as well. There's bosses and buildings take regional damage and collapse and hey who didn't wanna be in a huge battlemech of DOOM and then transform into a fighter jet raining death from above? Multiple weapons and loadouts, shields and energy and overheat to take into account. Its really challenging as well in the EXO missions but remains fun. The higher the score the more artwork you unlock and there's secrets to unlock secret missions. Singleplayer should keep you occupied for 10 or so hours if not more. Splitscreen multiplayer is here which I haven't tried out yet but its there.
