Zniw Adventure is really something special in modern world of gaming and to the genre of point and click games. After beating the game and reading some news and info on dev's site, I got a feeling that this game was their personal "magnum opus" - a gem, that they wanted to craft in most perfect way possible. That's why it took them 6 years to make, and for the artist Karolina Twardosz it took even longer if you include comic books about Zniw from 2000's and her early ideas back in the 90's. This is one of the most well crafted games I ever played, and I mean that in a way of emotions it gives you during gameplay. It's a rare thing to see a friendly family game for all ages that still brings you lots of joy, fun and doesnt try to be a game for babies like most "family friendly" projects with lame 0+ jokes or content that will melt the brain of more adult players. It really is a game for everyone and everyone will enjoy the process in their own way. When does the joy starts? Right from the beginning and that's one of main reasons why it took 6 years to make this game - animation. And not just simple drag and drop puppet like animations like most PnC game do, no. Classic frame by frame hand drawn animation which gives this game not only 90's PnC vibes but also a nostalgia for TV cartoon back from 90's. Animations are everywhere in this game, not just on Zniw herself and they (or rather - she, the only artist of the game) went really overboard with it, animating even minor stuff that you can barely pay attention to. I mean, get this. Not only Zniw has walking cycle in horizontal and vertical dimention, but she also has a 3/4 walking animations. Oh, and do you remember, that her left palm is black? Yes, the game remembers that too. When you walk left - you can see her black palm. When you walk right - you cant see it. It wasnt neccessary to do but it's just one of examples of those minor things that create the entire 90's PnC and cartoony atmosphere. Every single dino in this game in animated in it's own original way. Some dinos has multiple animations depending on certain conditions. And dont forget: 5+ minutes of cartoon animations! Plus I gotta say - the backgrounds themselves has so very few "grey" colors and they never get boring - everything is calmly bright and joyfull to watch. What about puzzles and the whole "point and clicking"? It's a mixture of "very easy" to "click on everything and use everything with everything and give everything to everyone"... so... it's just like 90's games xD But to be fair - it's hard to get stuck in the game if you pay attention to what Zniw or NPCs she talks to say. Remember what they say, think what items can do and you can easily find your way and solve the puzzle. Plus there are no puzzles that are super hard even for adults - all the puzzles just require a little bit of thinking. And I just have to mention - Zniw is so damn adorable, cute, kind, spoiled bratty dinosaur. You can feel all that by her inner thoughts, the way she talks, how she acts and by her animations. Kind of like you can read a character by it's body language. The same can be said to many side characters that appear during adventure - I wont spoil anything there. I will say though that art style is very charming - every single dino is drawn in cartoony style but at the same time they keep their original real life anatomy. Finally - I just have to mention the setting. Yes, it's a game about a female dino who is trying to find her way home... and her home is Wajapulka - the giant city for herbivorous only. And even though they live in sort of stone age, they still have modern techs done in more ancient and crude way, like ID clay slabs, lamps done with glowing mushrooms and so on. Zniw and other characters constantly talk about things that surround them, talk about cities, events, places + the game has giant enciclopedia with every possible bit of info in it. Dino's has their own roles in society. For example: small dinos usually gather things, medium sized ones are working in the fields if they can use tools with their hands, and big ones do all the heavy work. It's simple idea but it works and helps to build the world of Zniw Adventure. All that makes you believe in world and kind of wanting more to explore it. And that's the main problem for me with this game - I actually want more! Even though I've spend 12+ hours on beating this game and finding most of hidden gems (which unlock you concept arts, music and hidden mini-games), I still want to play further and explore this world with Zniw that I really like as a main protagonist. So I really hope we'll see more adventures of that cute bratty dino girl! In the end, should you buy Zniw Adventure? Yes. The same way developers handcrafted this game with love and passion, you can give them some love and satisfaction by buying Zniw Adventure and just have fun in the world of intelligent dinosaurs. It's only 9$ but it gives far more joy then most 70$ AAA games for one simple reason - people, who did Zniw Adventure, really cared about this project and despite everything, they just kept doing what they were doing to deliver a fun and enjoyable experience to the players. And it feels all way through - from the beginning to the end credits. So go on! Help Zniw find her way home!

A good old Point & Click adventure! Really cute and funny, with lots of awesome cartoon sequences and animations. The soundtrack is perfect for an oldschool Point & Click. The puzzles were also mostly good. Some made me think just the right amount of time to feel satisfying, a few I shamelessly checked the official guide for. I came across some continuity errors, but nothing game-breaking. I wasn't always happy with the story and dialogues, but they are honestly better than most of the genre, and this game isn't trying to be deep or anything. It just wants people to have a good time and maybe learn something about dinosaurs. Probably my favourite thing apart from the animations: how your inventory is integrated into the game in a meaningful way -
you make your own backpack!
Never seen that anywhere else. When you no longer need an item, it's removed with a logical explanation. There's a whole encyclopedia which isn't really integrated but has lots of lore and IRL facts on dinosaurs and other life during their era. It gets kind of suspenseful towards the end and you're told there's time pressure, but you can't mess up and nothing really bad happens. There are some sequences where you have to be quick in order to progress, but you can always try again. There's mild cartoon violence a few times. Heads up that when you reach the end (triggered by
hitting the Bad Guy on the head
), there's a collection of cutscenes with the length of a minor cartoon during which you can't save. TL;DR: a couple of hours of silly dinosaur fun with optional edutainment, well worth the money and time. * * * If you like chill and story-driven games, check out my curator Peaceful Adventures and Stories. I bought this thinking It was going to be a cheapish cutesy point n click to waste some time to as I still adore the genre.... What I actually got, was an interactive 90s-esc cartoon that made me feel like a kid again. Lets start with the animation... beautiful, fluent, has that slightly annoying but nostalgic shake to all the outlines and you can tell what every species is (daspaletosaurus is just thunder chonkingly cute and my favourite). Sound and music are worthy of a small award, that's no joke. Its got lovely rich sound, environmental stuff, even the volume of waterfalls rising and falling reminds me of the good old, well mixed EAX days, again welldone (more companies need to realise that sound is a HUGE portion of our immersion once more, yes, thank you, damn it...). Music is pure 90s midi-synth goodness and once again I feel like I'm watching an old TV show, more than I'm playing a game JUST for that reason (I miss those old xylophone and jungle drum synth samples from the 90s I really do lol It sounds like it's made with a ROLAND I love it). Zniw and the characters you find have had alot of time and effort put behind them, once more its all very "sweet" and innocent but not to a cringe worthy point, and I'll be very honest the bath salts joke got a proper lol from me (and the crabs). There are a couple of annoying things, but they arn't game breaking, they shouldn't be considered something to make or break the purchase either, its just stuff i need to point out to be a little balanced. I have a mouse issue that can sometimes make me roll my eyes, it's almost like the game is designed to use an old ball mouse, and then you see the old CRT options in the advanced menu....... you guys didn't do this on purpose did you ? lol Stuttering every now and again when coming out of a conversation or moving the camera (seems to be a bit better with Vsync turned off). Annnnd that's it, those are my only gripes. I was going to have a little pop about how you can only hold 1 item at a time, and then the game tells you "nah that's silly here's a backpack!" and there was MUCH rejoicing. Buy this game, help the devs out, it's more than worth the price, you did an amazing job Azure Mountain.... PLEASE release the OST, people will buy it, just no argue SHUTUP AND TAKE BOTTLECAPS! Special note on education: Really impressed with how much actual study into dinosaurs there was here, more so than any AAA company in a decent educational way (they even provide a little encylopedia with dino facts) and it didn't make me want to rip my eyes out with cringe! This should be a series it really should, kids would love it.

It felt a little slow at first as I got used to the (little bit clunky) controls, and there were moments of confusion on the next step I should take, but this game really grew on me. It's very cozy, has clever and cute dialog, and very charming animations. And despite the cartoonishness of it, it's fairly accurate paleo media which added another layer of enjoyment for me. I liked reading through the encyclopedia, and seeing the notes where the designs were amended to fit updated standards in paleo, such as hadrosaur "hooves". The way the dinos (and non-dino relatives) were animated and the way they were designed, especially the ceratopsians in particular, was a real treat to look at. Overall I would highly recommend this game if you're looking for a good point-and-click and also enjoy paleo, 10/10
