It's a wonderful RPG farming sim that puts a much heavier emphasis on magic than Stardew did. You can tell it takes a lot of notes from Stardew but it does it with love and improves in a lot of places. I really, really love the game.

i like sunhaven a lot! when i bought it, i didnt like it at first. i thought the interface looked a bit outdated and it was hard to get into bc its so overwhelming. theres not a lot of guidance and sometimes i have to look up where to find places. also, i hate that my tools have to be so advanced to break the big rocks and logs all over my farm. but over time ive started to love it more and more. theres so much to do and its all very fun and interesting. i am an avid stardew player - i like that there is not a limit on energy, i like that the inventory is big, and i like that i can change how long a day lasts as well. i play on 40 minutes and its not as stressful trying to remind myself to water my crops as well as going to the mines and getting bulletin board quests done. idk if i havent played enough - but where are the sprinklers?? i chose farmer bc i thought i would like it the most but honestly i spend the least amount of time on my crops because it is so tedious. i wonder to what extent that choosing my occupation and appearance affects my game experience and am excited to try other worlds to find out.

For me, Sun Haven is a fun farming game that has a mix of RPG style gaming. You could focus more on the RPG part of it, but the predictability and rote repetition of farming is relaxing to me. I love that the developers added a sort of customized time frame for your day. I can't relax if I'm feeling rushed in my farming duties y'all! So it's def one of the things that drew me to the game. I used to play WoW and FFXIV with my husband of 16 years, but about 6 months ago he died; Sun Haven is a nice game to play on my own that fills that gaming void and doesn't constantly remind me of my missing paladin. Thank you to the devs for making this game.

I like this game a lot, but I stopped playing to wait for more Steam Deck compatibility. I was really hoping I’d see better controller support with the 1.0 release, but it’s still not there. Gamepad controls are awkward — and often stop working altogether — and the UI on the Steam Deck is too small, even at 2X zoom. I’ll check back in again when they release their Switch version to see if they’ve also made handheld improvements here. Overall, I do recommend and enjoy this game, but if you’re mostly a Steam Deck player, I would suggest waiting a bit.

The first instinct many people will have is compare this to Stardew Valley, because you play as a farmer who moves to a small town where some of the NPCs are romanceable. But that's basically where the similarities end. In Sun Haven, you get to be a fantasy race (if you want), magic, mana, and a skill tree with so many options it would be difficult to play the same way twice. Not only that, but NO STAMINA BAR! Keep farming, mining, and fighting to your hearts' content! -- While we're at it, the game also auto-saves, so you don't have to sleep away the day to save and quit, you can just quit when you're done. Life saver. There's a surprisingly large world to play in, too! You don't get the whole world right away and have to do quests to unlock your second and third farm, which are in fantasy towns with whole new wonderful settings, but I was able to get both of them in my first spring so it's not a huge roadblock in gameplay. There's 15 romance options, some of which are only available after unlocking the other towns. And I'm not sure if its just because the game is in early access or if its intended for the final game, but I for one really appreciate the fact that you can romance multiple characters at once: a lot of them are fun options AND they all have cute new sprites for each season! And even the characters I personally don't like, I can see why someone else would. My biggest complaints about this game are: - There's a very limited selection of hairstyles and they're all anime protag-esc, so good luck if you want a basic hairstyle. There's also pretty much only straight or wavy hair, no curly, afro, braided, or dread-like hairstyles. - The map could use some help. The player dot is itty-bitty and especially in the fantasy towns it can be hard to understand what part of the map is where. Could be fixed by making the player dot either larger, a different color, or possibly customizable. As for the towns, either make it stacked like it is walking around or at least indicate which segment is "below" which. ... That's about it. It's a good game. If you enjoy chill games, you'll LOVE this one.

I'm going to go ahead a recommend this, even though I'm going to have some caveats. So I've played this game for almost 30 hours, and while there's more I can *do*, From what I can tell, I've seen most of what this game has to offer in its present form on one solid play-through + a few shorter forays. I'll start out by saying I LOVE Stardew Valley. I've got hundreds of hours in that game. I would buy another version of Stardew that just swapped the map and the npcs for new ones. My wife also really likes that game, and we like to play co-op games together. The fact that this one is very similar but seems to have a larger world and more fantasy aspects sounds, on paper, to be win-win-win. All stuff we love. And this game *is* very similar to Stardew. Some things are nearly identical ("repair this bridge for XX wood?"). So I've been trying to take mental inventory of how this game stacks up to SV; how it does or doesn't deliver on my hope of "Stardew Valley - but MORE". We're gonna deep-dive here. 1) Character Options. Character/appearance options are WIDER, but less DEEP. SV has more color options for eyes/hair and a bazillion different shirts. SH has several different...species....but your appearance options for each are....pretty limited. Also, I ADORE the idea that your species might affect your stats/progress/relationships/etc in the game, but if it does, it's unobvious to the point I can't tell. Stylistic preference here, but I kinda prefer SV's character sprites to the "big head" style SH uses. 2) Animations. I actually really like how SH does a lot of the animations. I love the "sprouts" when watering plants showing you it's "doing" something. I like how things pop/vibrate/whatever when interacted with. Overall, I think I prefer the animation *style* in SH. That said, the animations seem to play a little smoother in SV. This MIGHT be because my computer isn't exactly top-of the line, but some of the animations (particularly things like chopping wood / mining ore) seem a little....stiff. 3) NPCs. There are quite a few NPCs in this game, and they seem to have about the same amount of "personality" as the ones in SV. They each have their own dialog trees (though some are definitely reminiscent of others), and they each have their own daily routines in terms of where they are. That said, the NPCs are pretty one-dimensional - they don't seem to have a lot of depth and kind of boil down to their archetypes. Interactions boil down to buying stuff, getting a 'quest', giving them gifts, or misc chat. Haven't seen *much* analogous to SV's friendship scenes, which really added a lot to the NPCs in that game. I will say, I really like the chat exchanges that end w/ scheduled events, but I've thus far only encountered 2 - and one is basically unavoidable plot. The other was a scheduled "first date", which was also kind of like a friendship scene. More of that would be really cool. I haven't got married, but "dating" does seem to be *slightly* more meaningful in SH than SV, in that the NPC's dialog more often acknowledges it. 4) Farming/Foraging/Mining. At its base, farming very analogous to SV, though without seasons. I will say, adding seasons to the game world would really add a lot IMO - especially if it meaningfully changes the world's appearance and NPC routines/interactions/etc. Doesn't seem to be quite as much to *do* in terms of developing the farm/land. I have a barn, but I don't know what it does (anything?). I have a few animals that give me stuff, which is cool (maybe the barn was a pre-req?). There don't seem to be other buildings to acquire. I DO love the monstrous pets - I have a baby griffin that gives feathers. There's no sprinklers, but the rain spell is awesome. The "shipping container" thing looks really weird, but does the job. Foraging/"Exploring" is also very similar, and there is more to find in terms of stuff. Mining is less dangerous (no monsters), but similar. I think the maps are cool. 5) Crafting/Cooking. The crafting system is solid and, if anything, is an improvement on SV's. That said, there's not as much stuff to craft at the moment. A handful of pieces of furniture (that are mostly just decoration), and some tools and equipment (very cool). I assume this is to be greatly expanded. I like the crafting "queues" where stuff actually takes some time to make, but you don't have to just sit there while it does it - but nor does it just "pop" stuff out. The good stuff takes time, which is a nice pacing touch. As an aside, I also LOVE that you can change the real-time day length between 20 and 40 minutes. I have mine set to 40 - that way, I can get a lot "done" in a day, but some things (like crafting, plant growth, and scheduled stuff) still has to wait. Cooking seems to be similar, in that you can make stuff from what you've grown and foraged - and that stuff can give you various buffs/recoveries. 6) Combat. Combat in SH is another improvement over SV. In SV, combat kind of feels like an add-on. In SH, it's definitely part of the game. I *do* wish enemies didn't infinitely respawn. Kinda makes you feel like beating them doesn't "accomplish" anything - though it does make "grinding" and getting certain trophies more expedient. Much better use of armor/equipment here, too. 7) Skills/Advancement. This I really like - the level-up special abilities are pretty cool (though some more cool/useful than others). The gaps in the trees make me think/hope they're working on coming up with more? If anything, advancement is a little too fast. I like the slow build/long game. I'm ~30 hours in and I've picked up basically everything I wanted in any given skill, which seems.....really quick to me. 8) Game World. The game world is much larger than SV, which I love. That said, as mentioned, there's not a ton of *depth* to much of it yet. I like the different areas, and the elven and monster cities have a lot of promise if they're fleshed out. I particularly like the fact that you get your own apt & farm in Withergate to grow stuff that won't grow in Sun Haven. Sun Haven is definitely the most developed - there are a number of different buildings where you can do/buy different things, which is cool - though not all of those things seem to have a large purpose. 9) Plot. I like that there is a "plot" going on with the dragons, etc - though, at this point, there's not much to it. It's also completely unfinished. It so boils down to a handful of interactions and prompting to go places / do things / talk to people - which are fun but could use more variety. I'm currently at what *sounds* like a climax/resolution/whatever, but the next step is "coming soon". I'm hoping there's a LOT more to it in the works, because it really hasn't been much thus far. 10) Multiplayer. As mentioned, multiplayer co-op was a selling point for me. That said, we haven't done it a lot as yet. It seems to work about as well as SV's. It does seem to require going through Steam, however - I was hoping for a more direct lan connection as our 'net speed isn't super fast. But it plays reasonably. The only issue we've had is a connection bug. 11) Bugs and Glitches. I've encountered a few, but the game is totally playable without too much technical frustration. In single player, most of them have been cosmetic. In multiplayer, the big one was getting subtly disconnected and only finding later that I wasn't actually "there" and nothing I was doing "counted". 12) Value. Is this title worth its current asking price? Eh.... I mean, I've gotten 30 hours out of it, so that's, what, $1/hour? That's not *terrible*, and I'll certainly play it more. That said, I'm at pennies/hour on SV. Basically, I really like what's here and this game has ENORMOUS potential. If fleshed out and polished sufficiently, it could easily become an all-time fav. I am hopeful that it delivers.

Sun Haven, while it doesn't completely fill the void of Stardew Valley, helps bridge the gap between now and when The Haunted Chocolatier comes out. What I liked: You can play as a myriad of different races. The map is HUGE. The animation style is adorable! There are a lot of eligible singles to date! What I wish was better: There is less payoff for completing big tasks. You get married-great...their lives don't change, and there is no special way to interact with them as a spouse! You complete the museum...great-no special animations or museum day or anything. You literally defeat a huge dragon and finish the game...great-go collect your eggs and continue with your life. Overall: This game was fun-obviously. I wouldn't play a game for 122 hours If I didn't enjoy myself. I however don't foresee another play though unless there is a major update. I know it is unfair to compare it to Stardew Valley, but I miss the simplicity yet deep/rich game play Stardew Valley has to offer. Sun Haven's world is so large that it gets overwhelming, but the characters are so dull they all blend together. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a fun farming sim, but I'd ask that they lower their expectations...and maybe only get it on sale. Thank you! That's all for now :)

So I rarely write reviews, but this game made me make an exception. I'm a big fan of the game Stardew Valley, have been since the early days when it wasn't nearly as fleshed out as it is today. Sun Haven is very much so in that same vein or genre of game, so if you enjoy Stardew, this isn't even a question, you should have bought this and probably have already. But to those on the fence let me point out some of the features Sun Haven has that I found incredibly enjoyable and some of the systems it lacks or has that I found not so enjoyable. throughout my review here I will be comparing Sun Haven to Stardew quite a lot, because they're so similar and one could argue that Sun Haven is a spiritual successor to Stardew. We'll start with the good. 1.) The Romance Options - Sun Haven has a massive number of romanceable characters, like considering the main story isn't finished but there are (I think) 16 romance targets, that's a lot of choices. The characters all have their own unique personalities that are very well written and come off as genuine and unique. I had a very hard time picking a best boy or best girl in my succubus play through whose goal was to love everyone. Running around slinging Spicey Ramen to learn everyone's personalities was a very fun experience. 2.) Skill Trees - One of the big things I enjoy in games are skill trees, because it gives your character a sense of progression not found in games without them. Sun Haven does a great job with the skill tree system they have implemented, and it isn't even finished yet. 3.) The Farming! - The farming system works very well, although occasionally you'll encounter a bug or two as of writing this. The farming is satisfying both from a sound design perspective and visually. I love coming out to see my colorful sparkly plants needing water in the morning. (Edit here that comments pointed out) The farming works like in Stardew where if you don't water your crops you will only lose one days worth of growth, I had previously wrote that in Stardew they died, but I was mixing that up with the season changes. my bad there. 4.) Combat - While Stardew has combat in the game, it is a very minimalist system, Sun Haven even in this very early build has a far superior system of combat and exploration. While combat was more a chore you were forced to learn in Stardew in order to mine resources, in Sun Haven combat is a viable option for making money and expanding your farm in it's own right. I plan to do a "No farm all kill" play through in the near future. If not changes were made to the combat right now, it would still be a good system, but the skill tree is only halfway finished I believe, so it can only get better. 5.) The World - The game is set in a fantasy setting with various races to choose from. I will let you explore them all yourself, but I can tell you any game that lets me play a demon has my interest, I don't know about you! Not only the races, but the town itself both visually and lore wise feels very rich and comfy. You get a real sense of community from the denizens of Sun Haven and Withergate. 6.) Sound - One thing Stardew had going for it was a great soundtrack and Sun Haven has done, in my opinion, an excellent job of making a soundtrack that is distinct and sets the vibe for the locations around the world you explore. My only complaint might be the music can be a bit short and you notice the loop more often. Withergate and the Blacksmith both have awesome and memorable songs, so keep your ear out for those! 7.) Multiple Houses - I won't spoil it, but the game does in fact have another home you can acquire and I hope more will be added in the future, more towns plox! There are other things I'm sure I could talk about but I think I've pointed out the ones that jump out at it me off the top of my head. The not as good, or not included 1.) Romance Events - Though this game does have dates, it doesn't at the time of writing this, have random encounters out in the world like cutscenes that would let you learn more about characters. While going out in the forest to fight baddies, no matter how many hearts you've accrued with the guard captain you won't stumble upon him fighting enemies or the like. I hope they add these in the future, but the dates being entirely tied to your conversations and not requiring you to witness a specific event in a specific location in the town at a specific time has it's own advantages. 2.) Seasons - The town of Sun Haven does not at the time of writing this experience any form of seasons. No matter how long you stay there, the world never has autumn leaves or winter's snow blanketing the town. I read somewhere that the reason for this, is in fact tied to the lore. After all the guardian of town is a Sun Dragon! But even with that in mind, it makes the farming a bit less interesting when there is no time restrictions on your crops, and it makes me sad I don't get to see Kitty's winter clothes. All jokes aside, I hope the game devs reconsider not adding seasons into the game. 3.) Calendar Events - As of writing this review the game does not have any form of town holidays or events to experience with your community. The lack of any festivals or celebrations or birthdays was a big downer for me when I discovered it. this is probably my biggest gripe: the lack of community events. 4.) Difficulty - The game at this stage has a bit of an issue with progression speed. I can, for example, become a millionaire within two months without cheesing the game due to bugs. Just completely normally through playing the game by the rules, I can become filthy rich very fast (then marry Anne). This may be a bit of a turn off to some, as any Stardew vets knows, getting rich in that game, though achievable, was much longer and more arduous of a task. The devs are currently working to fix this and balance some of the crops and cooking recipes with each patch. But this could be seen as a positive to some, since it enforces the idea that, though Sun Haven is a farming game, it is also a combat, exploration, house designing, and romance game and it leans less on the farming and more on the player to go out and experience more than just spam planting peppers. I hope you found my review helpful, and although not perfect, this is the best indie game I've played in a long while that has so so so much potential to be one of the biggest games of the year. According to the devs over the next 6 months we'll be seeing updates that will continue to add the main story and everything else into the game. I couldn't recommend the game enough, and although not complete, it has more fun and solid elements in it that outshine much of what Stardew had to offer even in this early build. If they never released another update again, I would still be glad I dropped the 25$ on the game.

Current Review for Sun Haven after playing about 18 days in game on SOLO ONLY: This game is soooo nice for those of us who want a farming game which doesn't feel like a CONSTANT grind! I've put a couple hours to this game and I am enjoying it 10x more than I have any other farming RPG style game~ Pros: - NO STAMINA!! It feel so good not running out of stamina after watering a couple plants and weeding its so nice, I feel like I can actually play the game (for real thanks devs XD) - Amazing character design and game lore so far~ I didn't think it was possible for me to simp for pixelated men and women but here we are... (Jun and Catherine are *chefs kiss*) The animal sprites are really cute too! - A good skill lvl system where you can really see the effects of your hard work paying off (skills in combat, farming, foraging and mining) - Easy to make money in a way which is enjoyable and feeling like farming is the only good source of income - Lots of fruit to forage for (respawn every day) - Side quests for days! so many side quests which reward well in both exp and money and refresh ever day! - Never feels like I'm resource starved (tree respawn rate is good and the mine is very generous) - Quick building time/craft time for materials and items so doesn't feel like there are any huge wait times (longest i've had to wait for something is like 5 mins irl) - PETS!! You can buy currently a dog, cat and rabbit! cost the same each and you don't actually need to feed them which is handy. You can pet them and take them with you anywhere! - Combat is fun and the magic is easy to get a hold of since there are build in hotkeys you can customise in game BUT you WILL need armour and good weapons to survive enemy attacks (I learnt that the heard way lol) - Amazing character customisation at the start CONS: - TIME, I've seen others talk about this but there really needs to be a pause in game time when talking/interacting with chests, inventory and shops! I've had multiple instances where the game has bugged mid convo due to the constant passing of time and it makes the days feel too short. It can make it little stressful when I'm literally just trying to organise my items - A map?? I haven't found a map anywhere for the life of me and having one would have me so much time especially when looking for certain villagers - You run out of mana quite quickly especially while jumping in order to move quickly so be careful - Not much of a tutorial so you do need to figure a lot of things out for yourself e.g. magic, crafting, cooking and animal care ect. (its not too difficult tho and I appreciate this is still early access) IMPROVEMENTS/POSSIBLE CHANGES - Sometimes I cannot enter a building if a animal e.g. pet/chicken is also next to the door - Fruit trees options? grow your own orchard - A map early pretty please - a marker for where the villagers are bc it feels IMPOSSIBLE to find them a lot of the time for side quests - more details about the villagers in the villager tab thingy - skill upgrade for spells so that they gradually do more damage so you can chose to upgrade a spell instead of learning a new one - Some more options in terms of the anima (half animal ppl) species and the option to remove their face markings - A fast travel option so mana is not wasted on moving constantly to save time - Different colour/breed of pets/animals (this is more for fun not necessary) Overall I'm having a lot of fun with this game and I can see it has a lot of potential in the future and I will be playing multiplayer soon but I will be ticking to solo for a while to experience more of the story and characters more personally. I feel like this game is very good for an early access and I will update my review as i continue playing through the story and having fun! I look forward to playing more privately and on stream~ <3
