  I'm still shaking and my Vive is sweaty. I thought I'd do okay at this - I have good balance and I'm not afraid of heights. I was feeling a little gutsy so I grabbed the longest, narrowest plank in my garage. I walked it a few times IRL - no problem. But when I fired up Richie's Plank Experience... oh boy. Que a solid ten minutes of me with one foot in the elevator and one on the plank whispering to myself "it's not real, it's not real." When I got brave enough to step halfway out, I panicked. I hit the home button in a cheap attempt to escape - but to my horror, the menu was transparent, and I could still see myself standing on the plank. There was no way out of this. I closed the menu and had to shimmy back into the elevator, my heart beating out of my chest. Trembling, defeated, I hit the elevator button and did a little skywriting first, to get myself used to the idea of flying (and falling). The firefighting is definitely the best part of this game. I had a blast and felt like a superhero zooming around the city. I can't wait to see this expanded and to have more goals (and ways to lose). And yes, I finally did make it across that plank - but when I got a little too confident and tried to execute a graceful turn, I plummeted to my death. RIP

  While this is a fun thing to show off VR to friends, I can not recommend this to your average consumer who is just looking for a fun VR game, it tries to be an art game, and a flying game, but all it's going to be is a five minute falling off a building. At the price point of $15, I wouldn't spend more than $2 on this.

  + Fun way to experience VR for the first time + Set up an actual plank for more realism - Pricey for what it is/isn't - Other things for the same price far better 3/5 I would rate this as Neutral or Informational if i could. Not really a game. But one of the first experiences that VR had to offer, and one of the best "First Experiences" to demonstrate VR to people who have never tried it before. Although 14.99 is a stretch for the little amount of a game you get, if you can get this for half that, it would be a for sure purchase. Or if you want to freak your friends/family who had never tried VR before out this is a great little experience.

  We use Richie's plank experience to show first time VR users what an insane level of immersion VR can cause. We've tried this with 50+ people and only 1 or 2 were unimpressed. The other people were totally stunned by the high level of immersion. Only use the plank. The other levels are not good for educational use. If you want to show how motion sickness works: Show them the flying level. It makes most of the people sick pretty quickly. Some tips for more immersion: - Use a real wooden plank on the floor and match the ingame plank with the wooden plank. - Use a fan when they step out of the elevator. - push the elevator button for the people, don't hand them controllers, they don't need them. Safety tip: - Stay close to your users in case they trip or fall to the side so you can catch them. We had people falling heads first as they were jumping down. Things to do: - Take anybody's fear of height super serious! Don't joke about that! - Tell them: What you are seeing is not real. Your feelins are real. This is what VR is able to do. Embrace that. Imagine that in positive learning scenarios. - Encourage people to jump. If they don't want to jump ask how they feel and why they do not want to jump. Tell them it is not real what they are seing - why do they still hesitate to jump? I find these questions to be important as a part of realizing what VR is able to do and what feelings simple VR simulators can cause. Things not to do: - NEVER EVER force anybody to go out on the plank. It is okay not wanting to go out. It is okay to pull of the VR headset if they feel uncomfortable. - Do NOT use the spiders to shock people. There are more people with arachnophobia than you might think. - Do NOT push people for the lulz. Don't spoil their highly immersive VR experience for a short shocking effect. - If you are showing this in groups: Don't let people joke about others being chicken. It is okay not wanting to go out on the plank! For people wanting to buy this: This program is kind of a one trick pony: It's good to show people the high level of immersion VR can cause but once that is done it get's boring very quickly. Wait for this app to be on sale, it is NOT worth 15 bucks for 10 minutes of fun unless you are using it to show off your VR to lots of different people.

  Kinda fun, but do yourself a favor and buy it on sale for $5 or less. Its not worth 15 dollars.

  While very short and not something I'd come back to, it's still the first thing I get people to do when trying VR the first time. It's the easiest way to show people the way your brain reacts to VR.

  Its well marketed. But in reality its not actually that good. very simple, basic game barely worth 5 dollars.

  This is my go to game for demoing VR to first timers. It's very simple so anybody can figure it out but it's a very powerful experience. Add a real plank and you have yourself a recipe for entertaining large groups. It's just a blast watching the first person freak out and everybody else confused as to how this cartoony thing on the monitor is eliciting such a response. One by one they all take a turn and it instantly clicks.
